Which room to book at Hotel San Roque
Suite La Torre. It is the one room the hotel sells on a sea view, the only one with a private terrace on the roof, and the only one the hotel says has direct access to the mirador. If it is taken, the Junior Suite gives the most space on a single level without the duplexes' stairs and sloped ceilings.

Why this one
The six categories differ in size, light and how many levels they occupy, not in what they look at: none of the other five pages mentions the sea, and where the hotel states an outlook it is a courtyard or the convent across the street. Suite La Torre is the exception. Its page gives 55 square metres over three floors: a sitting room on the ground level, the bedroom above, and a private terrace at the top with the sea, the mountains and the town below, and the rooms page calls it the only room with direct access to the mirador. It has a corner whirlpool bath, sleeps two and no more, and there is one of it. That is the whole argument: it is the room the hotel is photographed from.
Below the tower the ladder is shaped by stairs. The two duplex categories, 35 and 45 square metres, put the bedroom on an upper level, and the rooms overview says the smaller one's bedroom is under sloped ceilings. The three single-level categories run from a 24 square metre Double Collection through the 27 to 33 square metre Double Superior to the 40 square metre Junior Suite, which is why the Junior Suite is the fallback: the most space you can have without a staircase inside the room, with a walk-in shower as well as the whirlpool bath that every room in the house has. Compare these rungs on your own dates before you book.
- Ask for
- Ask for a terrace: the FAQ says some rooms have one and that you should check availability when you reserve, so it is a request, not a category. Ask for an upper floor, because the Double Superior page places three of its five rooms on the ground floor and guests find the ground-floor rooms darker. And say whether you want the pool courtyard or the main courtyard; in the Dúplex category the hotel states which rooms face which, two and five, so it can be done.
- Avoid
- The bottom of the Double Collection range if you are sensitive to space: the category runs from 24 to 32 square metres and you do not choose which end. Both Dúplex categories if stairs or low sloped ceilings are a problem, since the bedroom is upstairs in each. Cars park on the cobbled street outside, so if you are offered a street-facing Collection room, ask for a courtyard one instead.
Suites against rooms
There is only one suite that changes what you see, and that is the tower. The Dúplex Suite is a bigger Dúplex with a separate shower and windows on the main courtyard; the Junior Suite is a single-level room with a sitting area rather than a separate lounge. If Suite La Torre is taken, the honest choice is between the Junior Suite's 40 square metres on one level and the Dúplex Suite's 45 on two.

Our verdict
The most characterful stay on the island, for a short, unhurried few nights. Check availability for an upper-floor balcony room.
