The farm is on the Carretera El Rincón in the lower Orotava valley, a few minutes' drive inland from Puerto de la Cruz, among the plantations that cover the valley floor. The visit is a guided walk through the banana rows with the family who farm them, followed by a tasting of their fruit and a shot of banana liqueur for adults. The farm's own site says its visits last about an hour; GetYourGuide says 50 minutes. The operator says every visit is guided in English and Spanish together.

The farm calls itself eco, not organic, and names no certifying body. The owners say they grow without pesticides or chemical fertilisers, planting herbs and cereals among the bananas to bring in useful insects, and that the farm is 95% self-sufficient and grows more than 150,000 kilos of bananas a year. Those are their figures.

The fruit is Plátano de Canarias, protected by the European Union as a geographical indication since 2013. The protected description credits the islands' mild temperatures and humid winds for the plant's slow growth and the fruit's longer ripening, and enzyme activity for the small brown spots on the skin. La Orotava was a pioneer of banana growing in the Canaries from the second half of the 19th century, the town hall says, though the crop has since lost ground to building. Canary growers produced about 374,000 tonnes in 2025, ASPROCAN reported, the second lowest harvest in 25 years.

Why this one

The honest comparison is with Finca Las Margaritas, a banana farm near Las Galletas in the south: it was rated 4.7 from 1,572 reviews on GetYourGuide, from 10 euros, against 4.7 from about 1,100 reviews and 20 euros here. From the Costa Adeje and Guía de Isora hotels in our edit, Las Margaritas is the one to book: this farm is over an hour's drive away. From Puerto de la Cruz, this one is five to ten minutes away, in the valley the plantations made.

Be clear about what it is: a short, simple visit to a working farm, not a half-day excursion. Book it for a farmer's own explanation of the crop, a taste of bananas that never reach the shops and the liqueur; skip it if a drive past the plantations would do.

Good for

  • Guests in Puerto de la Cruz with an hour to spare
  • Anyone curious how a banana grows before they eat one
  • A short stop on a day in La Orotava

Not for

  • Guests on the south coast: the farm near Las Galletas is closer and cheaper
  • Anyone who wants French or printed information
  • Travellers expecting a long, single-language tour

What guests keep saying

Recurring themes in the tour’s reviews, in our words, never quoted.

Praised

  • The farm itself, well kept and working, not a roadside stop
  • Bananas that never reach the shops, because they are not straight or clean enough to sell
  • The banana liqueur, the part most guests mention afterwards

Complaints

  • Guiding in two languages at once halves what you hear

The catch

  1. Everything is said twice

The operator says every visit is guided in English and Spanish together, and low-rated reviews describe exactly that: each point comes twice, once in each language, so the part in your language is about half the visit.

What to do. Expect a shorter tour than the clock suggests, and ask the guide your own questions.

  2. The guiding can be thin

Low-rated reviews describe no signs or printed information to read, no French, and one visit that was mostly unaccompanied wandering with a few minutes of talk. The operator answers these reviews and says it is improving.

What to do. Keep expectations modest: this is a look round a real farm with a talk, not a lecture.

  3. Twenty euros for a small tasting

Some reviewers found 20 euros high for a walk, some fresh banana and one shot of liqueur, next to the farm in the south at 10 euros.

What to do. Book it for the farm and the valley, not for the amount you eat and drink.

  4. The liqueur is for adults only

The listing sets 18 as the minimum age for the liqueur. Children can walk the farm and taste the bananas; the farm's own site admits under 5s free and has a child price from 5 to 11.

What to do. Book children at the child rate, and expect them to get the fruit, not the shot.

  5. The valley is cloudier than the south coast

In the five years of weather we looked at, the sky over the farm at 11:00 was clear on under half the mornings in every month but August. The trade winds pile cloud against the north of the island, while the south coast resorts are sheltered.

What to do. Bring a layer outside summer, and do not judge the valley's weather by the sky at a south coast hotel.
