G.G.A. parapente meets its passengers in Puerto de la Cruz, with flights at 09:00, 12:00, 15:00 and 18:00 when the weather allows. Its own vehicle drives them up to the launch, a clearing by the TF-24 near Izaña, on the ridge above the Orotava valley; the drive is about 46 minutes on the routed road. The operator gives the launch as 2,200 metres, and the elevation data we used puts it at 2,183. The GetYourGuide listing calls it the highest point in Spain. It is not: that is Teide's summit, 3,715 metres, about 1,500 metres higher.
The flight lasts 30 to 45 minutes in the air, the operator says, and the pilot offers you the controls and, if you ask, a few acrobatic turns. It crosses the Orotava valley, the great scoop in the island's northern flank left by a giant landslide, according to Spain's geological survey, and often descends through the layer of cloud that the trade winds pile against the north of the island. Landing is usually on the coast at Puerto de la Cruz.
When the wind does not suit the north face, the operator flies from Izaña's south face or from Arafo instead, landing at Puertito de Güímar on the east coast. The price includes transport from the meeting point to the launch and back, the equipment, the pilot, liability insurance and a certificate; the video of the flight is extra. Passengers weigh 20 to 100 kilos and stand 100 to 200 centimetres tall, and the operator sets no minimum age and a maximum of 70.
Why this one
Most tandem flights on Tenerife launch above the south coast. On GetYourGuide, the beginner-friendly flight from above Costa Adeje was rated 4.9 from 336 reviews, from 110 euros, with pickup included, and the Ifonche flight from 1,000 metres 4.9 from 12 reviews, from 120 euros. This one was rated 5 from about 330 reviews, from 150 euros. It launches more than twice as high, stays up longer, and flies over the green north instead of the dry south, but there is no pickup: you make your own way to Puerto de la Cruz. From a south coast hotel, for a first flight, book one of the southern ones.
Booking direct costs the same 150 euros. For height without a harness, the Teide cable car tour on our list reaches 3,555 metres with no weight limit and no dependence on the wind at a launch.
Good for
- Guests staying in Puerto de la Cruz or the north
- Anyone who wants height and a long flight, not a short hop
- First-timers happy to take the controls with a pilot beside them
Not for
- South coast stays without a car: the southern flights include pickup
- Anyone outside 20 to 100 kilos or 100 to 200 centimetres
- Anyone who cannot keep a day free in case the wind moves it
When to go
What the launch and the landing are like, month by month. Temperature and gusts are modelled for the launch at 2,183 metres at 11:00; cloud for the landing at Puerto de la Cruz at 12:00. The launch usually sits above the cloud.

Temperature is the median at the launch at 11:00, with the coldest day in ten after it. Gusty is the share of days with gusts over 35 km/h at the launch at 11:00 in the weather model, a guide to the odds, not a record of cancelled flights. Clear sky is the share of days with little cloud over the landing at 12:00; pilots often fly down through the cloud.
Summer is the calmest season
In the model, the launch is gusty on about seven days in ten in March and under four in ten in August, and summer is warmest up there too: a median of 21 to 22°C in July and August against 6°C in January, when one morning in ten is 2°C or colder. From April to June the cloud over the landing is thickest, with a clear sky at midday on under three days in ten.

From our Tenerife hotels
Drive times are routed to G.G.A. parapente's meeting point in Puerto de la Cruz, where every flight starts. The operator's vehicle takes passengers from there to the launch and back; there is no pickup from hotels.

- Smooth organisation on the day, from the meeting point to the launch

The catch
The wind decides, and it often says no
A tandem flight needs a steady, moderate wind at the launch. In the weather model we used, gusts at the launch topped 35 km/h at 11:00 on about half the days of the year, most in March and least in August; that is a guide to the odds, not a count of cancelled flights, which the operator does not publish. On a bad day the flight moves to another time, another launch, or another day.
What to do. Book early in your stay and keep a spare morning. Booked direct, the operator's terms give a new date rather than a refund when the weather stops the flight; check GetYourGuide's terms for your booking.
You may land on the other side of the island
When the wind favours it, the operator flies from Izaña's south face or from Arafo and lands at Puertito de Güímar, on the east coast, rather than at Puerto de la Cruz.
What to do. Ask at the meeting point which route is flying that day.
The age rule differs between pages
The GetYourGuide listing says in one place that the flight is not suitable for children under 13. The operator's own page sets no minimum age, only a height of at least 100 centimetres, and a maximum age of 70.
What to do. For a child, confirm with the operator before you pay.
The weight surcharge differs too
The GetYourGuide listing charges 50 euros extra over 85 kilos; the operator's own page charges 30 euros over 90 kilos. Both put the limit at 100 kilos.
What to do. If you weigh more than 85 kilos, ask which surcharge applies before you book.
Three hours for under an hour in the air
The operator puts the whole activity at about three hours, meeting point to meeting point, for 30 to 45 minutes of flying, and the launch is 2,183 metres up and cold. The video is extra, and one review in September 2026 was charged more for it on the day than the price shown online.
What to do. Bring a jacket, sunglasses, sports shoes and cash, as the operator asks, and ask the video price before you say yes.
Questions people ask

Is paragliding from Teide worth it?
For height and a long flight over the Orotava valley, yes: it launches at about 2,200 metres and flies for 30 to 45 minutes, from 150 euros. For a short first flight near a south coast hotel, the flights above Costa Adeje are cheaper and include pickup.
Is the Izaña launch the highest point in Spain?
No. The launch is about 2,200 metres by the operator's figure, 2,183 by the elevation data we used. Spain's highest point is Teide's summit, 3,715 metres.
Where do you land?
Usually on the coast at Puerto de la Cruz. When the wind favours the south side, the operator flies from Izaña's south face or Arafo and lands at Puertito de Güímar instead.
How much does paragliding from Teide cost?
From 150 euros on GetYourGuide, the same as the operator's own price, with a surcharge for passengers over 85 or 90 kilos and extra for the video.
What if the weather stops the flight?
It moves to another time, another launch or another day. Booked direct, the operator's terms give a new date rather than a refund; GetYourGuide's terms apply to bookings made there.
Can children fly?
The operator sets no minimum age, only a height of at least 100 centimetres and a weight of at least 20 kilos; the listing says not suitable under 13, so confirm with the operator.
What should I wear?
Sports shoes, a jacket and sunglasses: the launch at about 2,200 metres is much colder than the coast, a median of 6°C at 11:00 in January.
