The walk starts where Marrakech eats at night: Jemaa el-Fna, the square in front of the Koutoubia Mosque. You meet the guide at the Hôtel Restaurant Café de France on the square, and the route, as the listing gives it, runs across Jemaa el-Fna, up through Souk Semmarine and the lanes of the Medina, past the Koutoubia, and back to the café. It takes 2.5 to 3 hours, with a live guide in English, Arabic, French, German or Spanish, in a shared group or as a private tour.

The operator's description sets out the evening in order. A walk to the Mellah and the main market, where stalls are piled with fruit, meat, poultry and vegetables, and a stop to watch a pastry being made. Sweet pastries and tagine baked over charcoal, with the guide explaining the different kinds, and an almond drink. Then the side streets of the souks for olives and dates, a méchoui maker roasting a whole lamb in a pit oven, and a small restaurant for tangia and kofte with fresh bread and three salads. It ends, the operator says, with a glass of mint tea in a café above a courtyard of rugs, lamps and fountains. The listing also promises a recipe to take home.

The square is the reason to go at night. UNESCO inscribed the cultural space of Jemaa el-Fna Square on its list of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity in 2008, and describes a square of food stalls, restaurants and street performers that runs all day and well into the night. Walking it with someone who knows which stall does what turns the noise into dinner.

On 31 October 2026 the tour cost from 43 euros on GetYourGuide, with the guide, the food and the drinks included and hotel pickup not included. GetYourGuide lists it as wheelchair accessible, and it can be booked up to 30 minutes before the start.

Why this one

On 31 October 2026 this was the most reviewed night food walk in Marrakech that we found on GetYourGuide: rated 4.7 from about 3,300 reviews, with the guides scored 4.8 out of 5 and value for money 4.7, and marked a bestseller. It is the one we would book for a first evening: it starts on Jemaa el-Fna itself, runs in five languages, and at 43 euros the food counts as dinner.

The rivals suit other people. Marrakech Street Food Tour / Taste The Real Marrakech is a 4-hour small-group walk rated 4.9 from about 320 reviews, from 44.18 euros, for anyone who wants a smaller group and more time. Marrakech: Medina Stories Food Tour with 15+ Tastings, rated 4.9 from about 230, runs 4 hours from 49.02 euros. Marrakech: Jemaa el-Fnaa Night Street Food Tour with Dinner is private, rated 4.7 from about 410 reviews, from 138 euros. If you would rather cook than walk, see our Moroccan cooking class with a local chef, and for a dinner with a show outside the city, Agafay desert at sunset: quad, camel ride and dinner show. Our guide to Marrakech's hotels is at /marrakech/.

From our Marrakech hotels

Times are routed to the Hôtel Restaurant Café de France on Jemaa el-Fna, where the tour starts and ends; hotel pickup is not included. From our five Medina hotels the times are walks, routed on OpenStreetMap, because cars cannot reach most riad doors. From Hivernage, the Palmeraie, the Route d'Amizmiz and Agafay they are free-road drive times to the nearest road, routed by OSRM on OpenStreetMap; the drive ends at the nearest road to the café, so allow a few minutes on foot.

What guests keep saying

Recurring themes in the tour’s reviews, in our words, never quoted.

Praised

  • Guides who are friendly and know the stallholders
  • Enough food to count as dinner, with sweets, olives and dates along the way
  • Lanes of the souks most visitors would not find alone

Complaints

  • A stop for argan oil, herbs and spices that some guests felt was a sales pitch

The catch

  1. Come hungry

The tastings add up to a meal, ending with a small restaurant course and mint tea. Recent guests advise arriving with an appetite, and some found the amount generous.

What to do. Skip dinner, and keep lunch light.

  2. One stop is a shop

Several recent guests describe a stop for argan oil, herbs, spices and creams on the way. Nothing has to be bought.

What to do. Enjoy the smells, say no thanks if you are not buying, and the walk moves on.

  3. Stand close to the guide

The square and the souks are loud at night, with crowds and motorbikes in the lanes, and some guests found the commentary hard to hear.

What to do. Keep near the front of the group, and ask the guide to repeat anything you missed at the next stop.

  4. Tell them about diets in advance

The tastings are shared plates, and the listing gives no vegetarian or allergy policy.

What to do. Put any diet or allergy in the booking notes and confirm with the operator before the night.

  5. Meet at the café, not just the square

Jemaa el-Fna is large and busy, and the tour meets at the Hôtel Restaurant Café de France on its edge.

What to do. Arrive 10 minutes early at the Café de France entrance; from Hivernage, ask the taxi for the café.
