  • Duration: 4 hoursStart times show in the calendar

  • Small groupUp to 10 people

The class starts outside Pharmacie Bab Doukkala, on the western side of the Medina, where the chef collects the group and walks it to a local market near the house to buy vegetables and the rest of the ingredients. Back at the house, the first lesson is Moroccan mint tea, made the traditional way and drunk while everyone gets to know each other. The kitchen is a tiled room with one long green marble table, and the group cooks around it together.

The operator says a session usually makes six dishes: beef tagine with prunes, chicken tagine with preserved lemon, a vegetable tagine, kefta meatballs in tomato sauce with eggs, shakshouka of sweet peppers, and zaalouk, the aubergine salad. With fewer than eight guests the list can be shorter; with dietary needs, one or two side dishes may be added. Vegan, vegetarian and gluten-free cooking is offered. You learn to peel, chop and season tagines the way the chef's family does at home, and the talk runs on to Moroccan customs and history while the pots cook.

Everything is served as a buffet at the end, with bread, water and tea, so the class is a full meal. Recipes for the dishes follow by link, usually the same evening, and the operator publishes them on its own site, kechcook.com, with more than a dozen others (harira, couscous, tanjia). Spices from the workshop are on sale at the end.

It lasts 4 hours from meeting to eating, for up to 10 people, taught in English or French, or both when the group is mixed. Free cancellation runs to 24 hours before, and you can reserve now and pay later. It costs from 36.34 euros on GetYourGuide on 31 October 2026.

Why this one

Of the Marrakech cooking classes on GetYourGuide on 31 October 2026, this was the only one with a 5.0 rating from more than 2,000 reviews, and GetYourGuide showed 97% of English-speaking guests giving it full marks. The guide scores 5.0 and value for money 4.9. Its closest rival by volume, the Moroccan Cooking Class with Pickup at restaurant Chouf l'Or, is cheaper at 26.90 euros and collects you from your hotel, but it is rated 4.6 from about 2,600 reviews and runs 3 hours. The workshop at La Maison Arabe, cooking alongside a dada, a traditional household cook, is rated 4.9 from about 780 reviews from 29.83 euros, for 1 to 3 hours in a hotel kitchen. Flavors of Marrakech also includes a market visit and is rated 5.0, from about 470 reviews, at 52.86 euros.

So this is the one we would book for a market, a tea lesson and the widest spread of dishes for the price. Pick the Chouf l'Or class if hotel pickup matters more than the market. For eating rather than cooking, our Street food tour of the Medina by night covers the Medina's stalls in an evening, and Bahia Palace, Saadian Tombs and the souks with a guide is the better first morning in the city.

When to go

What the weather is like month by month at Bab Doukkala at 15:00, the hottest part of the day, from Open-Meteo's historical weather for 2021 to 2025. The cooking is indoors; the heat matters on the walk to the meeting point and through the market.

Temperature is the median at 15:00 at Bab Doukkala (Marrakech time, UTC+0), with the coldest day in ten after it. Clear sky is the share of days with little cloud at 15:00; rainy days, the share with 1 mm of rain or more. Modelled from Open-Meteo history for 2021 to 2025.

A good plan for a hot day

In the data we looked at, the median at 15:00 was 39.7°C in July and 38.7°C in August, and it rained on none of the days in June, July or August. The market walk is short and the rest of the class is inside a house, so this is one of the better ways to spend a summer afternoon in the Medina. From November to March the median at 15:00 stayed between 21.4°C and 25.9°C.

What guests keep saying

Recurring themes in the tour’s reviews, in our words, never quoted.

Praised

  • Food so good that even the lukewarm reviews praise it
  • A guide guests rate 5.0 out of 5, with value for money at 4.9
  • Stories of Moroccan customs and family cooking alongside the recipes

Complaints

  • Mixed English and French groups take longer, since everything is said twice

The catch

  1. There is no pickup

Hotel pickup and drop-off are listed as not included. The class meets outside Pharmacie Bab Doukkala, on the western edge of the Medina: 11 to 29 minutes on foot from our Medina hotels by OpenStreetMap routing.

What to do. Search Google Maps for the pharmacy's exact name, as the listing asks, and leave time to find it in the lanes.

  2. Wait outside the pharmacy

The meeting point is a working pharmacy, and the operator asks guests not to go in.

What to do. Wait on the pavement outside; the chef comes to you.

  3. Mixed groups are taught in two languages

The class runs in English and French together when guests speak different languages, and in one language when everyone shares it. Some guests found the bilingual sessions slower.

What to do. If you want a brisker class, ask the operator about a session in your language before you book.

  4. It is a team cook

The group cooks six or so dishes together at one table, so each person peels, chops and seasons part of the meal rather than cooking every dish alone, and the chef talks culture and history as you go.

What to do. Book it for the spread of dishes and the conversation; for one dish cooked start to finish, the La Maison Arabe workshop is the closer fit.

  5. Photos have rules

Photos are allowed during the cooking and of the vegetables at the market only; the operator asks you not to photograph other shops or people.

What to do. Keep the camera on the food in the market.
