Paris Orly: the airport guide

Paris-Orly Airport

Orly is Paris's second airport and, for our hotels, the closer one: 20–31 minutes by road to all ten, and now a direct metro into the heart of the city. Its four terminals are numbered simply, Orly 1 to Orly 4, with easyJet based in Orly 1 and Transavia in Orly 3. This is the guide a friend who uses it every month would give you, checked against the airport, the transport operators and the government.

The 30-second version

Check which Orly terminal your airline uses before you fly: Orly 1, 2 and 3 are one connected building, Orly 4 is the southern terminal. On landing, metro line 14 runs from the airport straight to Châtelet in about 25 minutes for €14, the best way in for Hôtel Madame Rêve and Le Grand Mazarin. Otherwise take a taxi from the official rank at a fixed €45 to the Right Bank or €36 to the Left Bank, no supplements. Going home, allow two hours for a European flight.

Landing to kerb

Every pick-up point, terminal by terminal
  1. Passport control

Arriving from a Schengen country there is no passport control at all. From anywhere else, EU, EEA and Swiss passport holders aged 12 and over can use the PARAFE e-gates, and so can several other biometric passports, including British, American and Canadian ones. Other non-EU travellers go through the EU Entry/Exit System, phased in from 12 October 2025 to April 2026: fingerprints and a photo on the first entry, so the first crossing takes longer.

  2. Baggage and customs

Bags arrive on the belt shown on the screens, then out through the green channel if you have nothing to declare. Orly 1, 2 and 3 share one long building, so if you are meeting someone on another flight, agree the terminal number.

  3. Metro line 14

Follow the signs for metro line 14 to the Aéroport d'Orly station, reached from the arrivals level of Orly 3. Trains run direct to Châtelet in about 25 minutes, calling at Gare de Lyon on the way and going on to Pyramides, Madeleine and Saint-Lazare. Buy the €14 Paris Région Airports ticket at the machines; an ordinary metro ticket is not valid at the airport station.

  4. Orlyval and the RER B

Orlyval, the driverless shuttle, stops at Orly 1-2-3 and Orly 4 and runs to Antony on the RER B in about 6 minutes, every few minutes from about 06:00 to 23:35. The same €14 ticket covers it and the RER B into Paris. It is the better way to Luxembourg, Port-Royal and Denfert-Rochereau on the Left Bank.

  5. Taxis

Follow the taxi signs to the official rank outside arrivals and take the car at the front of the queue. The fare to Paris is fixed by law in both directions: €45 to the Right Bank and €36 to the Left Bank, with no extra fees or surcharges allowed. Every Paris taxi must take cards.

  6. A pre-booked driver

A private transfer driver waits in arrivals with a name sign and follows your flight, so a late landing costs nothing extra. It suits families with car seats, groups of more than four and anyone landing after the metro has stopped.

  7. Phone, money and bags

Switch on an eSIM as you land; taxis, the metro and almost every café take cards and phones. If you are early for check-in, Bagages du Monde keeps luggage at Orly 3, arrivals level, near the metro line 14 exit, from 07:00 to 21:00 every day, with a passport or ID card.

Kerb to gate

  1. How early

Paris Aéroport advises two hours before a short-haul flight and three hours before a long-haul one. From our hotels the drive is typically 20–31 minutes, the shortest airport run in Paris; leave more room in the weekday rush hours.

  2. Getting there

The fixed fare works in reverse: €45 from the Right Bank, €36 from the Left Bank. By metro, line 14 from Châtelet, Pyramides or Madeleine runs straight to the airport from 05:30 until around midnight; know your Orly terminal before you get off.

  3. Check-in and security

Check in at your airline's zone in your terminal, then head straight for the control areas, as the airport asks. There is no fast-track lane you can buy at the door; priority lanes come with your ticket or status, or book LE MEET & GREET Extime, an agent who takes you through check-in, security and passport control, from €171 for one to three people on the member web rate.

  4. Passport control on the way out

Within Schengen there is none. Flying to the UK or further, non-EU travellers have their exit recorded under the Entry/Exit System, and adults with an eligible biometric passport can use the PARAFE e-gates.

  5. Where to wait

Orly 3 puts its restaurants on level 2, and the Rue Parisienne, a street of Paris-style shops and food, runs through Orly 3 and Orly 4. In Orly 1, 2 and 3 the free PlayStation 5 and table football areas keep children busy.

The hotel at Paris Orly

Novotel Paris Coeur d'Orly Airport

For an early flight, a late landing or a long wait: the one we would book.

Orly has no hotel inside the terminal, and this is the best of the ones you can walk to: modern rooms, a 24-hour gym and breakfast from 5am. For a first-wave departure it takes the stress out of the morning.

The hotel's kitchen is being renovated, which can mean some daytime noise.

The catch: the Orlybus has gone

The Orlybus to Denfert-Rochereau stopped on 3 March 2025, replaced by metro line 14, and old guides still list it. Line 14 is faster anyway. At night, after the metro closes, Noctilien buses N22, N31 and N131 link Orly with Châtelet and Gare de Lyon.

Insider notes

The taxi fare depends only on which bank of the Seine you are going to, and it is per car, not per person; only a fifth passenger adds €5.50. Of our ten hotels, Mandarin Oriental Lutetia is the one on the Left Bank, so from Orly it is €36 and about 20 minutes to the door.

Line 14 is the line to know: Châtelet for the Marais and Les Halles, Pyramides for the Louvre and Palais-Royal, Madeleine for Concorde and the Faubourg Saint-Honoré. Tram T7 also runs from the airport to Villejuif-Louis Aragon on metro line 7, about 45 minutes, the slow and cheap way in.

With children

Orly 3 and Orly 4 have baby rooms, quiet spaces to change and feed; Orly 1, 2 and 3 have free PlayStation 5 areas, and Orly 3 adds arcade games. Orly 4 even has a dog area. In the Extime Lounge there is a separate children's room with games and television.

Step-free and assistance

Assistance for passengers with reduced mobility is free under EU rules: ask your airline at least 48 hours before you fly and someone will meet you at the aircraft door. Paris taxis may not charge for carrying a wheelchair.

Delays and your rights

Flights from Orly, and EU airline flights into it from outside the EU, are covered by EU passenger rights. Arrive three hours or more late for a reason within the airline's control and compensation is €250 for flights up to 1,500 km and €400 for longer flights within the EU; after two hours' delay on a short flight the airline also owes meals and refreshments.

A long wait or an early flight

Novotel Paris Cœur d'Orly Airport and Ibis Paris Cœur d'Orly Airport are within walking distance of the terminals; Hilton Garden Inn Paris Orly Airport and Ibis Styles Paris Orly Tech Airport are a shuttle ride away. For a 06:00 departure from one of our hotels, a taxi booked for 04:30 is the simplest plan, since line 14 starts at 05:30.

Getting to our ten hotels

Orly is the nearer airport for every one of our ten hotels: typically 20–31 minutes, against 33–41 from Charles de Gaulle. The fixed taxi is €45 to the nine on the Right Bank and €36 to Mandarin Oriental Lutetia. Line 14 makes the metro a real option for Hôtel Madame Rêve and Le Grand Mazarin via Châtelet, and for Hôtel de Crillon via Madeleine. Our airport transfers page has the drive time and the way we would arrive for each hotel.
