Why this one
The bottom of the ladder is about size. The Petit Boulevard is 15 m² and the Petit Boulevard Balcony 14, both over the courtyard with a queen bed, a shower and room for two adults only. The Saint Fiacre and Saint Fiacre Balcony add three square metres at 18 m², a king bed option and space for a child, but keep the shower and may face either side. The Uzes, at 21 m², brings the first bath, but every Uzes faces the boulevard, the side where guests hear the traffic.
The Parisian Eaves is the first step that answers both: 23 m², a bathtub for two or a large shower, a king bed, room for a child, and a courtyard outlook if you ask for one. On the February night it was €396, €135 more than the Petit Boulevard and €36 more than the Uzes. The Grand Boulevard suite above it was only €36 more again for 32 m², a seating area and the hotel's only sofa bed, and if traffic does not keep you awake it is the better buy. It faces the boulevard, though, and the Eaves can face the courtyard.
- Ask for
- Ask for the courtyard side, away from the boulevard's traffic. The hotel sells the Eaves with either outlook and publishes no room numbers, so it is a request, not a booking. Ask too whether your room has the bathtub for two or the large shower, as both are sold under this name. If the restaurant downstairs is hired out for a private event on one of your nights, ask for a room away from the courtyard for that night instead.
- Avoid
- The Petit Boulevard rooms unless you travel light: 14 to 15 m², a shower only and two adults at most. The Petit Boulevard Balcony bought for space, since it is a square metre smaller than the room below it. The Uzes if you sleep lightly, since every one faces the boulevard.
Suites against rooms
The Grand Boulevard is the hotel's only suite: 32 m² in rich greens and rust-coloured velvet, with a king bed, a seating area with a sofa bed and a bathroom with a bath or a shower, looking over the boulevard. It is the room for two adults and a child who want space, and on the February night it cost €432, €36 more than the Parisian Eaves.

Our verdict
Grands Boulevards Experimental spends its money on the courtyard restaurant, the rooftop and the decoration, and keeps the rooms small and the rates low. Book a Parisian Eaves room, eat downstairs at least once, and spend the days out in the city.
