Why this one

The first four rungs share a finish, tinted oak floors, Murano glass wall lights and Carrara marble bathrooms, and differ in what they look at. The 33 m² Grand Superior Room and the 40 m² Deluxe Room face the inner courtyard. The Deluxe Balcony Room keeps the 40 m² and adds a balcony on the street front, mainly Boulevard Raspail; lower down, in leaf, its outlook is the plane trees of Square Boucicaut and the buildings opposite. The Eiffel View Deluxe Balcony Room is the same room on the highest floors, and from about the fifth floor up its balcony clears the trees for the tower and the Invalides dome. On Tuesday 23 February 2027 that step cost €144 more than the Deluxe Balcony Room and €384 more than the entry room, and it is the step at which the outlook becomes the point of the room.

Above it the suites are about space, and the tower returns only where the hotel says so. The 50 m² Junior Suite Balcony and the 52 m² Deluxe Suite face the Left Bank with balconies, and the 56 m² Parisian Suite has two terraces on the top floor that look over the patio rather than the city. The Eiffel Suite, 57 m² on the sixth floor, is the first suite sold with the tower, at €3,536 that night, and the 47 m² Amour Suite at the very top adds an Art Nouveau balcony and terraces for €3,696. For a family of four, the Family Room, two connecting Deluxe Balcony Rooms, came to €3,602 with breakfast, well below any of the family suites.

Ask for
The category is sold with a king bed or two twins, so say which when you book. Ask for the highest floor the category has: the tower clears the trees from about the fifth floor up, and the hotel publishes no floor numbers for these rooms. If the balcony matters more than the tower, the Deluxe Balcony Room has the same 40 m² over the boulevard for less; ask for a high floor there too.
Avoid
The Grand Superior Room and the Deluxe Room if the outlook matters at all, since the hotel sells both on the inner courtyard. The Parisian Suite if a city view is what you are paying for, because its two terraces face the patio. And treat the Family Suite with care: it is sold with either the Left Bank or the patio in view, which leaves the choice to the hotel.

Suites against rooms

Two are worth singling out. The Josephine Baker Suite, 73 m² on the fifth floor, has her full-length portrait on the ceiling and the Eiffel Tower from its windows and terrace, and comes in a 106 m² two-bedroom version for families. The Haute Couture Suite, 73 m² on the sixth floor, was designed by Jean-Michel Wilmotte with Isabelle Huppert and has a 20 m² terrace over Paris.

At the top, the Rooftop Penthouse by Coppola puts a 60 m² roof terrace with views all round, the tower included, above an 83 m² suite furnished with pieces from Francis Ford Coppola's collection. The Deluxe Suite and every signature suite list a return transfer among their amenities.

Our verdict

The Left Bank's only Palace, with a 17-metre pool under it, a famous bar inside it and Saint-Germain outside the door. Pay for a balcony and walk everywhere.
