Candlelight concerts in Porto

4.7/5

About 3,000 reviews on Fever

A string quartet plays an hour of pop and film music among hundreds of flameless candles. Book Coldplay vs Imagine Dragons in the Palácio da Bolsa's glass-roofed courtyard, from 20.48 euros with fees, or ABBA at the Hilton in Gaia from 17.32.

  • Duration: 1 hourStart times show in the calendar

Candlelight is Fever's own concert format, now in cities around the world, and in Porto it plays in two rooms: the Pátio das Nações inside the Palácio da Bolsa, the old stock exchange in Ribeira, and the Hilton Porto Gaia across the Douro. The idea is simple: fill the floor around the musicians with candles and have a string quartet play the songs of one artist or one theme. Every programme is a tribute: Fever says on each listing that the concert has no affiliation with, approval or sponsorship from the artist. You hear Coldplay, ABBA or Hans Zimmer arranged for strings, not the artists themselves.

The evening starts at the door. Seats are not numbered: you buy a zone, A to D, which Fever ranks from the clearest view to an average one, and staff seat you within it in the order people arrive. At the Bolsa the doors open 60 minutes before the concert and Fever asks you to arrive at least 30 minutes ahead; at the Hilton they open 30 minutes before and close 5 minutes before the start. Nobody is let in once the music has begun. The candles are flameless LEDs, Fever says, so nothing smokes or drips.

The concert runs for about 60 minutes. Phones stay on silent, and Fever allows photos and video only during the final piece, without flash, when the musicians say so. The Coldplay vs Imagine Dragons programme, for example, runs from Clocks, Fix You and The Scientist to Viva La Vida, then Radioactive, Thunder, Bad Liar and Believer; Fever names the Intempus Quartet for the February date and the Christmas concert.

The Bolsa is the reason to go. The Associação Comercial do Porto laid its first stone on 6 October 1842 and finished the decoration in 1909, the palace says, and the concerts are held in its central courtyard, the Pátio das Nações, under an iron and glass roof ringed, Fever says, by the coats of arms of 20 nations Portugal traded with. The Hilton Porto Gaia is a modern hotel on Rua de Serpa Pinto on the Gaia bank, a few minutes' walk from The Rebello and The Yeatman.

Why this one

The one we would book first is Coldplay vs Imagine Dragons at the Palácio da Bolsa: it has more reviews than any other Candlelight show in Porto on our list, 1,369, and holds 4.73 across them on Fever on 30 October 2026. It plays at 19:30 on 21 November 2026 (and again at 22:00), 12 December 2026 and 13 February 2027, and at 22:00 on 9 January 2027, from 20.48 euros with fees; the 31 October date had only Zone A left. The Bolsa is the room we would choose, and it is in the middle of Ribeira: 1872 River House is a 3-minute walk and Casa da Companhia 6 minutes. In the same courtyard, Christmas Classics plays at 19:30 and 22:00 on 19 December 2026 (4.66 from 126 reviews), and the Valentine's Day special at 22:00 on 13 February 2027 (4.61 from 124). Queen vs The Beatles is new there, on 31 October, 12 December and 9 January, with no rating yet.

The Hilton Porto Gaia is the choice for anyone staying on the Gaia side, and it is the cheaper room. The ABBA programme there is the best-rated of our five on Fever on 30 October 2026, 4.77 from 796 reviews, and with Hans Zimmer (4.70 from 584) it starts at 17.32 euros with fees, the lowest price on our list. The Rebello is a 6-minute walk and The Yeatman 11 minutes. ABBA plays on 8 November 2026 at 18:30 and on 2 January and 20 February 2027 at 21:00; Hans Zimmer on 8 November, 6 December, 2 January and 20 February. Fever's Hilton calendar also has Pink Floyd, Michael Jackson, Peaky Blinders, the 1980s and a Christmas concert, each with fewer than 100 reviews or none yet, and Fever uses a third room, the Pestana Palácio do Freixo east of the centre, for Vivaldi and Adele from 27 December.

On zones: at the Bolsa Zone A costs about twice Zone D on most dates (44.10 against 20.48 to 26.78 euros with fees for Coldplay vs Imagine Dragons). Fever rates Zone D's view as average, so if you want to see the players' hands, Zone C at 31.50 or Zone B at 36.75 is the better value. For an hour of light rather than music, see our page on Spiritus in the Clérigos Church, about ten minutes' walk uphill from the Bolsa; for the city's history told in projections, Porto Legends.

What guests keep saying

Recurring themes in the tour’s reviews, in our words, never quoted.

Praised

  • Musicians whose playing reviewers single out, by name in the case of the Intempus Quartet
  • The Bolsa courtyard, which reviewers find suits the music
  • A relaxing, well-organised hour

Complaints

  • A few would like even more candles and light in the room

The catch

  1. Seats go in order of arrival

Seats are not numbered. Staff seat you within the zone on your ticket in the order people arrive, so a group sits together only if it arrives together with tickets for the same zone.

What to do. Arrive 30 minutes before at the latest, and arrive as a group.

  2. Nobody gets in late

Fever does not admit anyone once the concert has started, and at the Hilton the doors close 5 minutes before the start.

What to do. From the Gaia hotels, allow time for the walk or a taxi over the Dom Luís I bridge.

  3. The price grows at checkout and by date

Fever adds a 5% booking fee to each zone, and the from price is the cheapest zone on the cheapest date: Zone D for Coldplay vs Imagine Dragons ranges from 20.48 to 26.78 euros with fees across its dates.

What to do. Compare dates in the calendar before choosing a zone.

  4. Standard tickets are not refundable

You can change the date or time up to 48 hours before, if there is space. A refund needs the flexible refund ticket.

What to do. If your plans might move, take the flexible ticket at checkout.

  5. Photos only in the last piece

Fever asks for phones on silent throughout and allows photos and video only during the final piece, without flash.

What to do. Keep the phone away until the musicians say so.

  6. Nothing to eat or drink inside

Neither venue sells food or drink during the concert, and the Palácio da Bolsa has no parking.

What to do. Book dinner in Ribeira for after the 19:30 concerts, and come on foot or by taxi.
