The take on Lopesan Villa del Conde Resort & Thalasso
Lopesan opened Villa del Conde in 2004, the group's second self-built hotel, on the Meloneras seafront west of the Maspalomas lighthouse. It is a resort dressed as a Canarian village, inspired by the town of Agüimes in the island's south-east. You arrive in a cobbled square facing a twin-towered church modelled on one in Agüimes, and it holds the reception: a gilded hall of columns, rib vaults and crystal chandeliers. Behind it, stone lanes, courtyards and gardens link ten buildings holding 561 rooms, and the gardens run down to the seafront promenade.
The rooms follow the theme without overdoing it: warm colours, stone and wood, and a balcony or terrace in every category bar the entry one. Guests single out how much space they get. The entry Double Standard Economy faces the gardens and may have a window rather than a balcony. Above the standard rooms sits Unique by Lopesan, the hotel's club: the Junior Suites, the Double Deluxe View rooms and the suites above them come with a breakfast of their own, reserved loungers by the pools, one thalasso circuit each and a lounge serving drinks and snacks. At the top, the Royal Suite has a 125 m² terrace.
This is a hotel for staying in. There are six outdoor pools with almost 4,000 m² of water between them: Tambor, the big freshwater pool at the centre; El Crucero, a 526 m² saltwater pool by the promenade; Relax, for adults only; Arenal and a shallow pool for children; and the small Arcos. Four of them can be heated. Om Thalasso covers 1,200 m² facing the sea and runs a three-hour circuit with a seawater vitality pool, a sauna, steam rooms and a flotation pool, €40 for hotel guests and booked a day ahead. Children get a Mini Club, and there are shows every day. Breakfast, usually in the rate, is at the La Plaza buffet, with OVO for Canarian-inspired dinners and Alpendre by the pool at lunch.
The trade is scale. With 561 rooms, the loungers by the main pools are claimed early, often with towels left on them for hours. The beaches below the promenade, Playa de las Mujeres and Playa de Meloneras, are short and part pebble; the long golden sand of Playa de Maspalomas begins at the lighthouse, about 17 minutes on foot from the garden gate. Parts of the hotel show their twenty-odd years, and in March 2026 Lopesan announced a full renovation without publishing dates, so ask what work is planned before you book. Book it for a pool-and-thalasso week with a real sense of place, and stretch to a Unique room if crowds would wear on you.
