The catch at Lopesan Villa del Conde Resort & Thalasso
Five things stand between the photographs and the stay. None of them is hidden, and none outweighs a resort built as a Canarian village with six pools and a seawater thalasso on the Meloneras promenade, but each one decides whether it suits you.
On our shortlists
With 561 rooms, the loungers by the main pools go early
There are 561 rooms in ten interconnected buildings, and six outdoor pools with almost 4,000 m² of water between them: Tambor, the big freshwater pool at the centre; El Crucero, a 526 m² saltwater pool by the promenade; Relax, for adults only; Arenal and a shallow pool for children; and the small Arcos. The hotel also sells day passes to visitors, from €50 a person with lunch. Sunbeds, parasols and pool towels come with every room, but the loungers by the pools are claimed early and often held for hours with towels, a complaint that recurs through 2026. An entertainment team runs a daily programme with a Mini Club and evening shows, and Tambor, at the heart of the resort, is the lively pool.
What to do. Go down early if one pool matters to you, and use the Relax pool if you are travelling without children. Every Unique by Lopesan room, from the Junior Suite up, comes with reserved loungers in an area of their own.
The coves below the gate are part pebble, and the long sand is 17 minutes away
A garden gate opens onto the Paseo de las Meloneras, the seafront promenade. Directly below is Playa de las Mujeres, pebbles, gravel and dark sand, about 520 m long and 25 m wide. Playa de Meloneras, 7 minutes north-west of the gate on foot, has pebbles, gravel and golden sand over 283 m, loungers and parasols for hire and a Red Cross post; Las Mujeres has neither. The long golden beach of Playa de Maspalomas, with the Charca lagoon and the Dunas de Maspalomas nature reserve behind it, starts at the lighthouse, 1.2 km and 17 minutes east along the promenade from the gate.
What to do. Leave by the garden gate, not the front door: from the main entrance Playa de Meloneras is 14 minutes on foot rather than 7. Treat Playa de Maspalomas as an outing, and keep the pools for the rest of the day.
Parts of the hotel show their age, and the renovation Lopesan has announced has no dates
Villa del Conde opened in 2004, and rooms and pools that show their twenty-odd years are a recurring complaint among guests in 2026. In March 2026, setting out its plans at ITB Berlin, Lopesan listed a full renovation of the hotel, a renovación integral, without dates or scope. In January 2024 the group also said it would add an annex of about 128 rooms to this hotel, and its new 956-room family resort with a water park in Meloneras is under way, on a site it has not named. Work on or near the resort in 2026 or 2027 is possible, and no published plan says where or when.
What to do. Before you book, ask the hotel which buildings, if any, will have works on your dates, and ask for a room away from them. On a longer stay, ask again a few weeks before you travel.
The calm half of the resort comes with the Unique rooms, and the thalasso is extra for everyone else
Unique by Lopesan, the hotel's club, is sold by room category: the Junior Suites, the Double Deluxe View rooms and the three suites above them. It brings a breakfast in its own area, reserved loungers in a separate pool area, a VIP lounge with drinks and snacks, check-in at a desk of its own and one thalasso circuit per person per stay. In the four Double Standard categories none of that is in the rate, Balinese beds are a Unique service, and the Om Thalasso circuit, three hours of seawater pools, sauna and steam, costs €40 per person for hotel guests, booked a day ahead, between 11:00 and 19:00.
What to do. If the loungers and the thalasso are why you are coming, price a Junior Suite: on Tuesday 8 June 2027 it was €150 a night more than the entry room for two with breakfast, and both come with it. In a standard room, book the circuit the day before.
Winter costs up to 56% more than June, and New Year is dearer still
The cheapest room with breakfast, one night for two, was €198 on Tuesday 8 June 2027 and €207 on 11 May. On 12 January 2027 it was €266, on 16 February €288, on 23 March, in Holy Week, €295, and on 17 November 2026 €309. Christmas and New Year sit above that: a week from 22 December 2026 cost €2,964, about €423 a night, and from 29 December a single night was not on sale, while four nights cost €2,122, about €530 a night. On 25 and 31 December half board means the hotel's gala dinners, with no dining at the sister hotels.
What to do. Come in May or June for the lowest rates. For winter sun, January was the cheapest of the winter dates, and for New Year plan on four nights or more.
Who should skip it
Anyone who wants sand outside the gate, a small hotel or a lounger without an early start. Also anyone who needs to know there will be no building work: Lopesan has announced a full renovation and published no dates for it.
Who should book it anyway
Families and couples who want a pool-and-thalasso week with a real sense of place. The village is done with conviction, from the twin-towered church that holds the reception to the stone lanes and gardens; there are six pools with almost 4,000 m² of water, a 526 m² saltwater pool by the promenade and a three-hour seawater circuit at Om Thalasso; and in June a room with breakfast is about €200 for two. Book a Junior Suite for the space and the reserved loungers, come in May or June, and walk the promenade to the lighthouse and the dunes.

A themed resort done with conviction: the village, the saltwater pool and the thalasso earn their place. Check availability for the Junior Suite, and ask about renovation works.
