César Manrique, born in Arrecife in 1919, came home from New York in the 1960s and spent the rest of his life shaping how visitors see Lanzarote, with a string of centres built into its lava, caves and cliffs. This day joins up five of them. The operator's timetable starts with the Jardín de Cactus at Guatiza, a former volcanic quarry and rubbish tip that Manrique turned into a sunken garden of nearly 500 species, with a restored windmill on the rim. Then Jameos del Agua, where a collapsed lava tube from La Corona volcano holds a dark lake, home to a tiny blind crab found nowhere else, and a white pool and auditorium Manrique built in the 1970s.
Next comes the Mirador del Río, opened in 1973 and dug into the top of the Famara cliff so that from outside it barely shows. Inside, two great windows look straight down over the strait to La Graciosa; the operator puts the terrace at 479 metres. After an optional lunch stop, the coach heads back through the centre of the island to the Monumento al Campesino, Manrique's white sculpture to the island's farmers, beside a free museum of rural life, and ends at the Fundación César Manrique in Tahíche, the house he lived in from 1968 to 1988. Its upper floor was built in 1968; underneath, five natural volcanic bubbles in the 1730 to 1736 lava flow are joined by tunnels and furnished as rooms.
The operator gives about 35 minutes at the Cactus Garden, 45 at Jameos, 25 at the Mirador, 25 at the Monumento and 50 at the Fundación, with 55 minutes for lunch. The guide talks you through each site and the drives between, in Spanish, English and German on Wednesdays and Spanish, English and French on Saturdays. Entries to all five are in the price, which the operator says is at clients' request, so there are no ticket queues.
The official gate prices, read on 26 October 2026, are 9 euros for the Jardín de Cactus, from 17 for Jameos del Agua and 9 for the Mirador del Río, all sold by the island's CACT network, plus 10 for the Fundación, which sells its own ticket; the Monumento is free. That is 45 euros of entries, so the tour charges about 40 euros for the coach, the guide and a day without driving.
Why this one
Two GetYourGuide day trips cover all five Manrique sites. This one, run by Low Cost Tours Lanzarote, had about 470 reviews and a 4.6 rating on 26 October 2026, with guides rated 4.7 and transport 4.8, from 85 euros. The closest rival, Legacy of César Manrique (tour 215844), visits the same five and had 4.6 from about 230 reviews at 83 euros; lunch is extra on both. We would book this one for its longer review record and the pickup timetable the operator publishes for each resort. North Lanzarote Premium (1168600, 4.7 from about 110 reviews, 83 euros) swaps the Fundación for Cueva de los Verdes, and suits readers who want caves over architecture.
If you have a car, going alone is cheaper: 45 euros a head in entries, with the Fundación 8 to 39 minutes' drive from any hotel in our Lanzarote edit, and as long at each stop as you like. For two people the saving is about 80 euros, before the car. If you want the volcanoes as well as Manrique, our island-in-a-day page (Full-Day Island Highlights, from 51 euros) covers Timanfaya, the caves and the north, though not the Fundación or the Cactus Garden.
Good for
- Couples and anyone interested in architecture and design
- Visitors without a car who want all five sites in one day
- A cloudy day: much of it is indoors, underground or under cover
Not for
- Wheelchair users: the operator lists it as not adapted, and Jameos and the Fundación are only partly accessible
- Anyone who wants hours in one place: stops run 25 to 50 minutes
- Readers who want Timanfaya and the volcanoes: book the island-in-a-day tour instead
When to go
What midday is like at the Mirador del Río, the day's most exposed stop, month by month: temperature, how often the sky is clear for the view of La Graciosa, and how often it blows hard. Modelled for the clifftop from five years of historical weather.

| Jan | 17°C / 14°C | 46% | 35% |

| Dec | 18°C / 16°C | 49% | 32% |
Temperature is the median at 12:00 at the Mirador del Río, with the coldest day in ten after it. Clear sky is the share of days with little cloud at 12:00; gusty, the share with gusts over 50 km/h at that hour. Modelled from Open-Meteo's historical weather for 2021 to 2025.
Summer cloud on the cliff
The trade winds pile cloud against the Famara cliff in early summer: in the five years we looked at, only 17% of June middays were clear at the Mirador, against 46% in January and 49% in December. July is the windiest month, with gusts over 50 km/h on 52% of days. The rest of the day, in gardens, caves and the house, is much less exposed.
From our Lanzarote hotels
Drive times are routed to the Fundación César Manrique in Tahíche, the last stop, for anyone weighing a self-drive day. The catch
Wednesdays and Saturdays only
The operator runs this tour twice a week, and the commentary language depends on the day: German on Wednesdays, French on Saturdays, with Spanish and English on both.
What to do. Fix this day first when you plan the week, and pick the day that carries your language.
An early start from Playa Blanca
The coach collects across the island before the first stop. By the operator's timetable, Playa Blanca pickups are at 07:35 to 07:55 with drop-off around 17:15 to 17:45; Costa Teguise is collected last, at 09:20, and dropped first.
What to do. From the south, treat it as a full day and bring breakfast if your hotel serves late. From Costa Teguise or Arrecife the day is about two hours shorter.
Stops are short
The operator gives 25 to 50 minutes at each site. That is enough to see each one, and some guests wished for a little longer, particularly at Jameos and the Fundación.
What to do. Head straight for what matters most to you at each stop: the lower bubble rooms at the Fundación, the lake and the pool at Jameos. If one site deserves an afternoon, go back to it by car.
Wind and cloud at the Mirador
The Mirador sits on top of the Famara cliff, and the CACT warns of strong winds there. In the weather data we looked at, middays were clear only 17% of the time in June, and gusts topped 50 km/h on 52% of July days.
What to do. Bring a light jacket, as the operator advises in winter, and keep a hat in a bag. The two big windows give the view under cover when it blows.
Lunch is your own
Lunch is not in the price. The operator schedules a 55-minute buffet stop and puts it at about 15 euros.
What to do. Budget for it, or bring a snack for the coach: outside food and drink are not allowed inside Jameos or the Cactus Garden.
