About 5,700 reviews on GetYourGuide

Two hours at the wheel of your own buggy on the dirt tracks of northern Lanzarote, up to the island's highest point at about 670 metres, for 150 euros a buggy for two. Drivers must be 20 and have held a licence for 2 years: bring the original.

  • Duration: 2 to 3 hoursStart times show in the calendar
  • Live guideSpanish, English, French and Catalan

The tour starts in Costa Teguise, where the guides hand out helmets, a windproof jacket and dust goggles, give a safety talk and put each pair in a two-seat buggy. Then the convoy heads north behind a guide to Guatiza, leaves the tarmac and crosses the old volcanic quarries known locally as roferas, past the cactus fields of Mala, where prickly pear is still grown for the cochineal insect. The operator says up to 70 per cent of its routes are off road.

From there the tracks climb to Peñas del Chache, the top of the Famara massif. Its trig point stands at 673.5 metres in the Spanish geographic institute's survey (most maps round it to 670 or 671), next to military radars, so you stop on the ridge and at the Mirador de las Nieves rather than at the fence. The operator's route description promises views over the north of the island and its neighbours; reviewers single out Famara beach, far below the cliffs. The route then drops back through Teseguite and the El Mojón quarry to Costa Teguise. The 3-hour version adds the coast at Los Cocoteros and the natural pools of Charco del Palo. The operator says the route and timing change with the weather.

You drive. Each buggy carries one or two people; the driver must be at least 20 and must have held a full licence for at least two years, and the original card is checked: copies are refused. Passengers must be at least 1.35 metres tall, which on the operator's own listings means about 10 and over. The operator also asks for a passport or ID card for everyone, and closed shoes. It describes the tour as a guided exploration rather than a speed experience: you follow the guide in a line, and reviewers say that does not spoil it.

The price is per buggy, not per person: 150 euros for two hours on GetYourGuide on 26 October 2026, so 75 euros each if you share. The operator's other sellers list the 3-hour route at 200 euros. Hotel pickup is an extra the operator prices at 5 euros a person.

Why this one

On 26 October 2026 this was the most-reviewed buggy tour on Lanzarote on GetYourGuide, rated 4.6 from about 5,700 reviews, from 150 euros a buggy. The nearest rivals all cost more: a 4- or 6-seat Can-Am tour from Costa Teguise, rated 4.5 from about 710 reviews, from 200 euros, about half of it off road; an on-road buggy trip from Puerto del Carmen to El Cuervo volcano and La Geria, rated 4.6 from about 730, from 180 euros; and a 3-hour tour near the Timanfaya park from the south, rated 4.8 from about 150, from 170 euros. Book this one for the lowest price of the four, two people to a buggy and a route the operator says is up to 70 per cent off road. Book the 4- or 6-seater if three or more of you want one vehicle, or the on-road tour if you want volcano views without the dust.

The operator, which trades as H2O Sports Lanzarote and Buggy Experience Lanzarote, sells the same routes on other sites at the same 150 and 200 euros, so there is no saving in going direct; GetYourGuide's free cancellation is the better deal. A hire car reaches the Peñas del Chache viewpoint on tarmac, and our Lanzarote hotel guide at /lanzarote/ lists the hotels nearest the north. What the buggy adds is the tracks between. If nobody in your group can drive it, book The volcanoes, on foot, a guided hike across the lava of Timanfaya, or The island in a day, which covers Timanfaya, the caves and the north by coach.

Good for

  • Couples and pairs of friends: one buggy, one price, two seats
  • Drivers who want the north of the island off the tarmac
  • A half day out from Costa Teguise, Puerto del Carmen or Playa Blanca

Not for

  • Drivers under 20, or with a licence less than two years old
  • Children under 1.35 metres, pregnant women and anyone with back problems
  • Anyone who wants Timanfaya: this is the north of the island

Temperature is the median at 12:00, with the coldest day in ten after it. Clear sky is the share of days with little cloud at 12:00; gusty, the share with gusts over 50 km/h; rain, the share of days with 1 mm or more.

Autumn is the calm season up top

The summit is windier and cooler than the coast. In the weather data we looked at, gusts passed 50 km/h at midday on about one day in four from January to August, against about one in ten from September to November. Summer is the cloudiest time on the ridge: in June the sky was clear at midday on only a quarter of days, as the trade-wind cloud piles up on the Famara cliffs.

What guests keep saying

Recurring themes in the tour’s reviews, in our words, never quoted.

Praised

  • Guides who stop and explain the landscape, not just lead the line
  • Well-kept buggies and driving that people find addictive, even following in a convoy
  • Views over Famara beach and corners of the island few visitors reach

Complaints

  • The photos sold at the end are on the expensive side

The catch

  1. The licence rule is strict

The driver must be 20 or over and have held a full licence for at least two years, and the operator checks the original card: it says copies are not accepted. It also asks for a passport or ID card for everyone in the buggy.

What to do. Pack the plastic licence card and passports in your bag the night before; if you are under 20 or newly qualified, let your partner drive.

  2. The price is per buggy

150 euros buys one buggy for up to two people, not one seat. A solo driver pays the same as a pair.

What to do. Book it as a pair to halve the cost: 75 euros each for the 2-hour route.

  3. It is dusty, and cooler at the top

The tracks are dry dirt, and at midday on the summit the median temperature in our data stays under 20°C all year, with gusts over 50 km/h on about one day in four from January to August. The operator lends a windproof jacket and goggles or a mask.

What to do. Wear closed shoes (sandals are refused) and clothes you do not mind washing, and bring a warm layer and sunglasses.

  4. Pickup is not automatic

The tour starts in Costa Teguise. Hotel pickup is an extra the operator lists at 5 euros a person, with named points in Costa Teguise and at the Barceló Playa Blanca, and it has to be chosen or arranged.

What to do. Add pickup when you book, or message the operator once the booking is confirmed, and give your hotel's name; parking near the base is free if you drive.

  5. Some riders cannot come

Passengers must be at least 1.35 metres tall, and the operator does not recommend the tour in pregnancy or with back problems: the tracks are rough.

What to do. Measure a child before you book; if anyone falls short, book The island in a day, which tours the north by coach.
