There is no boat on this one. You meet the instructors at Playa Chica, the small beach at the western end of Puerto del Carmen where GetYourGuide's map puts the meeting point, and the first part of the morning happens on the sand: a short, friendly briefing on how the kit works, how to breathe through a regulator and the hand signals you will use under water. Then you put on the wetsuit and the tank and walk into the sea from the beach. The listing promises no boat, no seasickness and a gentle entry, and the operator's own booking page describes practice in the shallows first, where you get used to the equipment and the feel of breathing under water before you go any further.
The rule that sets this dive apart is the ratio. The listing says strictly one instructor for every two participants, and that larger groups get more instructors rather than a busier one. The listing says your instructor guides you hand in hand at all times. The operator's own booking page sets the maximum depth for this first dive at 6 metres, which is deep enough for the weightless feeling, the shoals of fish and the volcanic rock the listing describes, and shallow enough to come up quickly if your ears protest. GetYourGuide sells it as 2 to 2.5 hours from start to finish; the operator says about 2.
Everything is included: the full kit and wetsuit, dive insurance and the instructor, and the operator says photos and videos of your dive come free on WhatsApp, which is what the listing's title means by free videos. The centre charges 30 euros only if you want them sent another way. The operator says it has 18 years of experience behind it, and its own site presents it as a PADI five-star dive centre, with instructors qualified with PADI, SSI and BSAC, teaching in Spanish and English. Its base is in Playa Honda, near the airport, and its site shows a licence number from the Canary Islands government's fisheries department.
If the first dive goes well, the centre sells the next steps itself: a second, deeper try dive, PADI courses, and a beginners' dive among the sculptures of the Museo Atlántico off Playa Blanca.
Why this one
On GetYourGuide on 26 October 2026, this dive was rated 5.0 from about 450 reviews, from 75 euros, with guides scored 5.0 and value 4.9 out of 5. Its closest rival, 'Lanzarote: Small-Group Beginner Dive, Free Photos and Videos', starts from the same beach on GetYourGuide's map, is also rated 5.0, from about 410 reviews, and costs from 74.40 euros for 2.5 hours, so there is little between them on paper. We would book this one for its written promise of no more than two beginners per instructor. 'Lanzarote: Try Scuba Diving, 2 Dives Experience' from Costa Teguise is the one for guests in the north-east who want hotel pickup and two dives: 4.9 from about 70 reviews, from 140 euros, for 4 hours. A try dive at the Museo Atlántico sold on GetYourGuide costs from 185 euros, with only 9 reviews that day.
You can also book Barracuda direct. Its price list gives 80 euros for this one-dive try, and its online booking calendar 70, so GetYourGuide's 75 sits between the two, with free cancellation. Book direct if you want PADI's Discover Scuba Diving, with a second dive to 12 metres, at 120 to 130 euros, or the Museo Atlántico try dive at 150 to 170 euros. For a look under the sea with no diving at all, our page on the real submarine from Puerto Calero takes families with younger children to about 30 metres, staying dry, from 65 euros; the Papagayo kayak trip includes a snorkel in the coves, from 45 euros.
Good for
- Adults and teenagers who want to try scuba once before paying for a course
- Nervous beginners who want an instructor at their side the whole time
- Guests in Puerto del Carmen, Puerto Calero and La Geria, 1 to 9 minutes from the beach by car
Not for
- Anyone with a cold, blocked sinuses or ear trouble on the day
- Anyone flying home within 12 hours of the dive
- Young children: try the real submarine from Puerto Calero instead

What guests keep saying
Recurring themes in the tour’s reviews, in our words, never quoted.
Praised
- Calm, patient instructors who put nervous first-timers at ease
- Photos and videos of the dive, free, which guests count as a real bonus
- Guides scored 5.0 and value 4.9 out of 5 in GetYourGuide's breakdown
Complaints
- Ears that would not equalise, which ended the dive early for some guests
The catch
Your ears decide how deep you go
Ears have to be equalised all the way down, and the few low-rated reviews are mostly about ears: guests who could not equalise and had to stop. The standard dive medical form asks about ear and sinus problems, and tells anyone feeling ill not to dive.
What to do. Do not dive with a cold or a blocked nose. Equalise early and often on the way down, signal the instructor the moment anything hurts, and see a doctor if pain or muffled hearing lasts after the dive.
Read the medical form before you book
Every beginner dive starts with a health questionnaire. The one PADI publishes asks about the lungs, heart, ears, sinuses, recent surgery and fitness, sends some answers to a doctor first, and says not to dive if pregnant. A yes on the day can mean no dive.
What to do. Read the Diver Medical Participant Questionnaire at home. If it sends you to a doctor, go before you travel and bring the signed form.
Keep the last day free
Divers Alert Network advises at least 12 hours between a single dive and a flight, and 18 hours after several dives.
What to do. Book the dive early in your stay, and never on the day you fly home.
Make your own way to the beach
There is no hotel pickup on this listing. The meeting point is Playa Chica, at the western end of Puerto del Carmen, 27 to 28 minutes by car from the Playa Blanca hotels in our edit, 25 from Costa Teguise and Teguise, and 43 from Haría.
What to do. From Playa Blanca, Costa Teguise or Haría, allow for the drive, or pick the Costa Teguise dive with pickup instead.
Winter seas are livelier
In the four years of sea data we looked at, the sea off Puerto del Carmen stayed calm on 95 days in 100 or more from May to October, but on about four days in five from December to February and three in five in March.
What to do. In winter and spring, book early in your stay so a rough day leaves time to move the dive.
Questions people ask
Good questions about A first scuba dive from the beach in Puerto del Carmen
Can I scuba dive in Lanzarote without a licence?
Yes. A try dive like this needs no certificate: after a briefing on the beach you dive with an instructor beside you, one for every two beginners, to 6 metres at most. This one starts at Playa Chica in Puerto del Carmen and costs from 75 euros on GetYourGuide on 26 October 2026.
Do I need to be able to swim?
Neither the listing nor the operator sets a swimming test, and you walk in from the beach. The standard dive medical form asks whether you could swim 200 metres without resting, and a no sends you to a doctor before you dive.
How deep is the first dive?
Up to 6 metres, on the operator's own booking page. PADI's Discover Scuba Diving, which the centre sells separately with a second dive, goes to 12 metres.
What is the minimum age?
The listing does not give one, so ask the operator before booking for a child. PADI sets 10 as the minimum age for its own Discover Scuba Diving.
Is it cheaper to book direct?
Not by much. The centre's price list gives 80 euros for one try dive and its online booking calendar 70; GetYourGuide's price on 26 October 2026 was from 75 euros, with free cancellation.
How long after diving can I fly?
Divers Alert Network advises at least 12 hours after a single dive before flying, and 18 hours after several dives or several days of diving. Do the dive early in your stay, not on your last day.
How warm is the sea at Playa Chica?
In the sea data we looked at, the water off Puerto del Carmen was about 19°C at its coolest in February and March and about 24°C at its warmest in August. The wetsuit is included.
