The Tower of London is a royal fortress on the north bank of the Thames, beside Tower Bridge. William the Conqueror began the White Tower, the stone keep that gives the castle its name, around 1078, and it has served since as palace, prison, armoury, mint and treasury. UNESCO listed it as a World Heritage Site in 1988. Historic Royal Palaces, the charity that runs it, recommends at least 2 to 3 hours for a visit.
This ticket is entry for one day, and it covers what the listing names: the grounds, the White Tower with the Line of Kings, the Medieval Palace and the Crown Jewels. The Yeoman Warders, the Tower's Beefeaters, lead guided tours that are included in the ticket price, start near the entrance and last about 45 minutes, by the Tower's own access guide. The warders are former soldiers with at least 22 years of service, and at least six ravens are kept at the Tower, the subject of the Tower's most famous legend.
The Crown Jewels fill the ground floor of the Waterloo Barracks, in the Jewel House. They are working regalia, not museum pieces: St Edward's Crown, made in 1661, was placed on the head of Charles III at his coronation in May 2023. The collection of more than 100 objects holds around 23,578 gemstones, among them Cullinan I, the largest clear cut diamond in the world, set in the Sovereign's Sceptre with Cross. A moving walkway carries visitors past the crowns, and a raised platform at the end lets you stay and look for longer. Photography is not allowed inside.
The ticket has no time slot: you go any time the Tower is open on your date. In winter, from 1 November to 28 February, the access guide gives 09:00 to 16:30 from Tuesday to Saturday and 10:00 to 16:30 on Sunday and Monday, with last admission at 16:00; from 1 March to 31 October the Tower closes at 17:30, with last admission at 17:00. It is closed on 24, 25 and 26 December and 1 January. The entrance is a few minutes' walk from Tower Hill station, on the Circle and District lines.
Why this one
It is the Tower ticket most people book on GetYourGuide by a long way: 4.6 out of 5 from about 33,500 reviews on 7 November 2026, against about 1,800 for the next most reviewed Tower product. It is the plain entry ticket, so you keep the whole day and join a Yeoman Warder tour when you like. For a guide of your own, Easy Access Tower of London and Crown Jewels Tour is rated 4.7 from about 1,700 reviews, from 106.64 euros, for 3 to 4 hours. To be first into the Jewel House, Tower of London Early Access with Beefeater and Crown Jewels is 4.5 from about 1,800 reviews, from 70.69 euros, and Tower of London Opening Ceremony and Tower Bridge Tour, which adds the morning ceremony at the gates and Tower Bridge, is 4.8 from about 950 reviews, from 178.53 euros.
Be straight on price. Historic Royal Palaces sells the same entry on its own site in pounds, before an optional donation: an adult ticket was about £37 to £38 in 2026, by Historic Royal Palaces' price list as reported (IanVisits gives £37; a copy of the official table shows £38, or £41.80 with the donation). Children under 5 go in free on both. Historic Royal Palaces members go in free, and Go City's London Pass and London Explorer Pass include Tower entry, so holders of either should not buy this. Book here if you want to pay in euros, keep everything in one GetYourGuide booking, or cancel free up to 24 hours ahead. To see the Tower from the water as well, our River Thames cruise from Westminster to Greenwich passes it; for the Abbey, Big Ben and the Palace with a guide, see Westminster on foot.
Good for
- First-time visitors to London who want its history in one place
- Families: under 5s go free, and the Yeoman Warder tour keeps children listening

Not for
- Historic Royal Palaces members and London Pass holders, who already get in
- Visitors who want a guide of their own all day
- Anyone short of time: allow at least 2 to 3 hours

November to January is the quiet season
The Tower's own access guide names November, early December and January weekdays as the quietest times of the year, and Easter weekend, the summer holidays and Christmas as the busiest, when the wait for the Crown Jewels can reach 90 minutes. In the weather data we looked at, it is a median 11°C at 11:00 in November and 5°C in January, so come dressed for the outdoors.
From our London hotels
Times are routed on OpenStreetMap from each hotel in our London edit to the Tower's main visitor entrance on Tower Hill: on foot from The Ned and Shangri-La The Shard, which are under 20 minutes' walk away, and by car, without traffic, from the rest, so allow more at busy hours. The ticket has no pickup. The nearest Tube station is Tower Hill, on the Circle and District lines, with Tower Gateway on the DLR beside it.

The catch
Go at opening time
The Tower's own access guide says the wait for the Crown Jewels can reach 90 minutes on very busy days, and visitors report the longest queues in the middle of the day.
What to do. Be at the gate when it opens, 09:00 from Tuesday to Saturday or 10:00 on Sunday and Monday, and see the Crown Jewels first.
Check the official price first
Historic Royal Palaces sells the same entry on its own site in pounds, and members of the charity go in free, as do holders of Go City's London Pass and London Explorer Pass.
What to do. If you hold one of those, do not buy this. Otherwise compare today's official price with this calendar, and book here for euros and free cancellation.
Leave room for the Yeoman Warder tour
The tours are included, start near the entrance and last about 45 minutes. They tell the stories outdoors, so you go back afterwards for the White Tower and the Jewel House.
What to do. Join a tour soon after you arrive, then plan at least 2 to 3 hours in all.
Bring a jacket, even on a fine day
Most of the visit is outside, between buildings and on the walls. In the weather data we looked at, about four days in ten in winter bring 1 mm of rain or more.
What to do. Wear comfortable shoes for the cobbles and a waterproof layer from October to March.
Plan for steps and cobbles
The Jewel House is step free, with a moving walkway and a platform lift, but the White Tower has 247 steps and many surfaces are cobbled. There is no cloakroom for luggage.
What to do. Use the buggy parks (a £1 returnable deposit) and leave large bags at your hotel.
