The Fairmont Monte Carlo is not a beautiful hotel, and it does not need to be. Built over the sea in 1975 and wrapped around the hairpin that carries its name, it has the most central position of any large hotel in Monaco: the casino and the Place du Casino are two minutes up the hill, the harbour is below, and during the Grand Prix the cars pass beneath your window.
That is the trade. What you get is scale and energy: a rooftop pool deck with Nikki Beach in summer, Nobu, a spa and roughly 600 rooms, which makes it the one place in Monaco where a room can usually be found on big weekends. The pattern in guest feedback is clear: reliably praised for location, pool and the sea-facing rooms; reliably criticised for corridors that feel like a conference hotel, dated bathrooms in the unrenovated categories and a lobby that can feel like an airport.
