The catch at Monte-Carlo Beach
Four things stand between the photograph and the stay, and the first of them is a calendar. None is hidden; all four are on the hotel's own pages, and each has caught someone who booked the Riviera fantasy without reading the season dates or the practical information page.

It is open for six months, and the restaurants close before the hotel does
The hotel's own site gave the 2026 season as 13 April to 11 October, so there is no winter, no Christmas and no early Easter. Spring and autumn are also thinner than the brochure suggests. Elsa, the starred restaurant, opened on 15 April and its own page gives service Tuesday to Saturday until 27 September; Maona did not open until 14 May and closed on 27 September; La Vigie Zanoni opened on 12 June and also closed on 27 September, and both reopen in spring 2027. In the last fortnight of the season Le Deck, open daily from 12:30 to 15:30, is the only one of the four still serving. The kids club runs daily in July and August.
The beach club follows the same curve: 9:00 to 18:30 in April and May, 9:00 to 20:00 from 20 June to 31 August, and back to 18:30 from 1 September.
What to do. Book between mid-June and mid-September if you want everything open. If you come in April, May or October for the price, know that you are coming for the pool, Le Deck and the quiet, and accept that as the deal.
You are in France, and the casino square is a shuttle ride away
The address on the hotel's practical page is Avenue Princesse Grace, 06190 Roquebrune-Cap-Martin, which is France, not Monaco, whatever the name says. Routed on foot from the hotel door, Place du Casino is 30 minutes along the Larvotto promenade; by car it is seven minutes before traffic. The hotel lists a private resort shuttle between the Société des Bains de Mer properties, and from 1 September to 11 October a free sea shuttle for guests between the Pointe La Vigie landing stage and the Yacht Club pier at Port Hercule, daily from 9:00 to 19:00, about 15 minutes, six passengers a boat.
All of which works if Monte-Carlo is an excursion. It does not work if you want to wander out after dinner, because there is nowhere to wander to: the nearest restaurants outside the resort are at Monte-Carlo Bay, eight minutes' walk back along the avenue.
What to do. Treat the casino as one evening and book the shuttle for it. If you want Monte-Carlo on foot every night, this is the wrong hotel, and no room category changes that.
The entry room is 30 square metres, and the extras are priced separately
The Exclusive Room, the entry category, is 30 square metres with a 4.5 square metre loggia on the hotel's own room page, and the Exclusive Superior is the same room on the ground floor with steps down to the promenade. You have to reach the Junior Suite, at 50 square metres, before you get a lounge. Then the rate stops. The practical page lists breakfast as a buffet at 55 euros, parking at 40 euros a day, tourist tax at 4.02 euros an adult a night and late checkout at half the nightly rate until 15:00 and the full rate after 16:00; the hotel's pets page adds a dog up to 15 kilos at 60 euros a day. Breakfast is included in two categories, the Diamond Suite Sunshine and Villa La Vigie.
Guests report furniture showing its age and slow room service, and rate the location and the sleep well above the value.
What to do. Add breakfast and parking before you compare the rate with the Monaco hotels, and take the Junior Suite if you plan to spend afternoons in the room. A 30 square metre room with the loggia door open is fine for sleeping and not much more.
The rate buys access to the club, not a place in it
Every room page says the rate includes access to the Monte-Carlo Beach Club, its 28°C seawater pool and its beach. It does not say where you will sit. The club's own 2026 tariff prices day places for those without a room here: a pontoon sunbed is 150 euros a person a day in April and 390 in July and August, a first-row cabana 300 to 570 euros a day with a minimum spend of 80 euros a person, and new cabana members pay a 50,000 euro fee on top of a seasonal subscription of 27,199 to 37,594 euros. The club's page says it is reserved for members and for guests of this hotel, the Hôtel de Paris and the Hermitage, and that from 15 July to 31 August loungers are allocated on arrival, without reservation. Only the Diamond Suite Sunshine comes with a cabana.
Guests report a pool and beach club noisy with children in high summer. The beach is a short strip below the pontoon, which the hotel's page calls fine sand.
What to do. Go down before ten in July and August, ask at check-in whether a lounger can be held for the stay, and think of the pool rather than the beach as the reason you came.
Who should skip it
Anyone travelling between mid-October and mid-April, because it is shut. Anyone who wants to walk to the casino, a bar or a second restaurant after dinner. Light sleepers on the lower floors near the pool deck in August, and anyone who read the beach in the photographs as sand you could walk along for a mile.
Who should book it anyway
Couples who want the Riviera more than Monaco: a seawater pool at 28 degrees, lunch at Elsa in a cover-up, a room that faces the sea whichever one you book, and the casino as a single evening by shuttle. Book June to September, take an upper floor, and the list above becomes the point of the place.
The catch elsewhere in Monaco
- Hôtel Hermitage Monte-CarloMonte-Carlo
Rooms vary widely: the older wings can feel small and dated for the price.
- Hôtel de Paris Monte-CarloMonte-Carlo
Entry rooms can be small and inward-facing; the fantasy lives in the higher categories.
- Hôtel Métropole Monte-CarloMonte-Carlo
Entry rooms are on the small side and some look onto the road or neighbouring buildings.
- Monte-Carlo Bay Hotel & ResortLarvotto
Twenty-three minutes on foot from the casino square, along an uninspiring road.
- Columbus Hotel Monte-CarloFontvieille
Fontvieille is not Monte-Carlo: the casino square is a bus ride or a hilly walk away.
- Fairmont Monte CarloMonte-Carlo
Rooms and public areas vary; unrenovated categories feel dated for the price.
- Le Méridien Beach PlazaLarvotto
Rooms are inconsistent: refurbished categories are fine, older ones feel tired.
- The Maybourne RivieraRoquebrune-Cap-Martin
Nothing is walkable; every outing is a drive or a shuttle down the corniche.
- Cap EstelÈze
Isolated by design: no walkable restaurants, shops or beaches beyond the grounds.

Our verdict
The most romantic address in the edit, provided you want the Riviera more than you want Monaco. Check the season before you fall for it.
