Why this one
The bottom of the ladder moves in small steps. The Superior Queen is 285 sq ft (26 m²), the Superior King 300 sq ft (28 m²) and the Deluxe King 320 sq ft (30 m²), at $506, $570 and $612 on a late-January Tuesday, so each step mostly buys a bigger bed or room for a third guest. The Premium King jumps to 375 sq ft (35 m²) and adds high ceilings, crown mouldings, velvet and leather furniture, a custom armoire and a marble desk, and at $659 it is $153 above the entry room. Per square foot it is cheaper than any of the three below it, about $1.76 against $1.78 to $1.91.
The Double Queen is the one rival: 400 sq ft (37 m²) for $17 more, but with two queen beds and room for four it is sold on sharing, not on ceilings. Above it the suites start at $931 for the 475 sq ft (44 m²) Studio Suite, $272 more than the Premium King for another 100 sq ft. Below the suites no category is sold on an outlook, so what separates the rooms is space, ceiling height and furniture, and for two people the Premium King is the first rung where the money buys the room rather than the bed.
- Ask for
- A high floor, in a room down one of the side hallways rather than one whose door opens straight onto the atrium galleries, where the sound of The Bar Room's weekend crowd rises up the open well. Some rooms are in the newer tower and the hotel does not publish which categories sit where, so ask rather than assume. Say too whether you would rather have daylight or quiet: rooms on the street are brighter, and rooms facing the inner court are quieter.
- Avoid
- The two terrace categories while the terraces stay shut: they have been closed for facade repairs since May 2024, and at 280 sq ft (26 m²) they are the smallest rooms on the list. A low floor on a Friday or Saturday night. And the One Bedroom Suite if floor area is the point, since the Studio Suite is the same 475 sq ft (44 m²) for $340 less.
Suites against rooms
The Studio Suite is the value suite: 475 sq ft (44 m²), open plan under high ceilings, at $931 on the late-January Tuesday, though it takes two guests only. The One Bedroom Suite is the same 475 sq ft split into a bedroom and a sitting room for $340 more, which buys a door between the bed and the sofa rather than more floor. For four, the One Bedroom Corner Suite, 600 sq ft (56 m²) at $1,696, has a foyer, a living room with a pull-out sofa, a glass shower and a double vanity.
If a bath matters, the Thompson Suite comes with a deep soaking tub, along with a dining room and 1,100 sq ft (102 m²); in the other suites tubs are in some and not all, so ask. At $2,376 it costs less per square foot than the One Bedroom Corner Suite. The two Turret Penthouses are duplexes inside the pyramid-roofed towers on the Beekman Street front, 1,200 sq ft (111 m²) each with a lofted bedroom and a private roof terrace, and carry no published rate.

Our verdict
Book The Beekman for a landmarked Victorian atrium, with the Brooklyn Bridge and the 9/11 Memorial on foot. Pay up to a Premium King on a high floor, and make the bar downstairs your night out rather than your alarm clock.
