Rome Fiumicino lounges: every lounge, by terminal

Fiumicino has ten lounges, and eight of them sell entry to anyone with a boarding pass. Which one you can use depends less on your ticket than on your gate: Schengen flights leave from the A gates of Terminal 1, everything else from the E gates beyond passport control in Terminal 3, and a lounge on one side is no use on the other. Here is every lounge, with the operators' own prices, hours and facilities, checked against Aeroporti di Roma and the lounge operators.

The short answer

Flying within Europe from the A gates, Primeclass from €25 is the cheapest way in, Plaza Premium opens earliest at 04:30, and the Plaza Premium First lounge at €70 is the one for families, with a children's room and a nursery. Flying to the UK, the US or further from the E gates, Plaza Premium T3 from €30 is the dependable choice, and Prima Vista Portus at €40 is the pick if you board from E51 onwards. Priority Pass gets you into five of them.

Pick by gate, not by terminal

The lounges sit airside, on either side of passport control. Domestic and Schengen flights leave from the A gates, where you will find Primeclass, both Plaza Premium lounges of Terminal 1, Prima Vista Domus and the ITA Hangar Lounge. Flights to the UK, the US and the rest of the world leave from the E gates, past passport control, where Plaza Premium T3, Prima Vista Portus and the ITA, Emirates and British Airways lounges are. Check the departures screen or your boarding pass for an A or an E before you pay for anything.

ITA Airways checks in at Terminal 1 for every flight, so an ITA passenger to New York starts in Terminal 1 and walks on through passport control to the E gates; use the E-gate lounges.

Is a lounge worth it at Fiumicino?

For one person on a short wait, probably not: the food courts at both gate areas take free table bookings and serve better cooking than most lounges. For a long wait, a family or an early flight, yes. Primeclass from €25 and Plaza Premium from €29 cost about the same as a sit-down lunch for one, and both have showers. The Prima Vista lounges at €40 charge children aged 2–14 only €20, and the Plaza Premium First lounge, at €70, earns its price only if you use the children's room, the nursery and the patio.

Lounges for families

In the A gates, the Plaza Premium First lounge is the only one with an interactive children's room and a nursery, both included in the €49 child price for 2 hours; under-2s go free. Prima Vista Domus is cheaper for a family, €40 per adult and €20 per child aged 2–14, and has an open-air terrace. In the E gates, Prima Vista Portus has the same family prices. Outside the lounges, the airport runs nurseries near gate E11 and E44 and before gates A61–A83, and lends free pushchairs.

With Priority Pass or an American Express card

Priority Pass lists five lounges at Fiumicino: Plaza Premium, Primeclass and Prima Vista in Terminal 1, and Plaza Premium and Prima Vista Portus in Terminal 3. The two Plaza Premium lounges also take American Express and DragonPass, and Primeclass and Portus take LoungeKey. The Plaza Premium First lounge admits card-scheme members for a €33 upgrade at the desk. The ITA, Emirates and British Airways lounges take no card schemes, though ITA sells day entry from €49.

Arriving: a shower or a room

All the lounges serve departing and transferring passengers only. Landing after a night flight, the landside choice is the HelloSky Arrival Lounge and Air Rooms, in a public area reached from the terminals and the multistorey car parks, which rents rooms by the hour or the day. The Hilton Rome Airport is under 10 minutes' walk through a covered tunnel with a moving walkway.
