Candlelight concerts in Rome

About 3,100 reviews on Fever
A string quartet plays an hour of film scores and pop among hundreds of flameless candles. Book Ennio Morricone in the Salone Bernini at Palazzo Ripetta, next door to ROMEO, from 26.50 euros with no booking fee, or Einaudi on solo piano by St Peter's.
- Duration: 1 to 1.2 hoursStart times show in the calendar
Candlelight is Fever's own concert format, now in cities around the world, and Rome runs it most weeks. The idea is simple: fill a historic room with candles and have a string quartet, or for Einaudi a pianist, play the music of one composer, artist or theme. Most of the programmes are tributes: Fever says on each listing that the concert is not affiliated with, approved or sponsored by the artist. In Rome the line-up leans to film: Ennio Morricone, Hans Zimmer and The Lord of the Rings, alongside Coldplay, Queen and ABBA, Vivaldi's Four Seasons and the Genoese songwriter Fabrizio De André.
The evening starts at the door. Doors open 30 minutes before the concert (45 for Vivaldi), and nobody is let in late. Seats are not numbered: at Palazzo Ripetta you buy one of five zones, Premium and A to D, and staff seat you within it in order of arrival, so friends who want to sit together should come together. The candles are flameless, Fever says.
Concerts last about 60 minutes, 65 for Einaudi and 70 for The Lord of the Rings. Phones stay on silent; photos and video are allowed only during the last piece, without flash, and Fever asks that nobody leave their seat during the music except in an emergency. The Morricone programme runs from Cinema Paradiso and La Vita è Bella through Once Upon a Time in the West and Gabriel's Oboe from The Mission to La Dolce Vita and The Godfather, played by the J Music Classical Ensemble on most dates and the Sharareh Quartet on 12 December. At Teatro Ghione, Valerio Ciccarelli plays Einaudi solo, from Le Onde and Nuvole Bianche to Una Mattina and Divenire.
The two rooms are very different. Palazzo Ripetta is a 17th-century convent turned hotel on Via di Ripetta, a few minutes' walk from Piazza del Popolo, and the concerts are in its Salone Bernini, a tall, pale hall with a vaulted ceiling; it has a bar and a restaurant on site. Teatro Ghione, on Via delle Fornaci about 400 metres from St Peter's Square, is a 468-seat theatre founded and run by the actress Ileana Ghione until her death in 2005.
Why this one
The one we would book first is Ennio Morricone and Other Soundtracks at Palazzo Ripetta: it has more reviews than any other Candlelight show in Rome on our list, 820, and holds 4.62 across them on Fever on 30 October 2026, and Morricone's film music is the one programme here with a Roman voice. It plays on 31 October, 8 November and 4 and 12 December 2026 and on dates through to 6 March 2027, mostly Fridays to Sundays at 17:30, 19:30 or 21:30, from 26.50 euros in Zone D with no booking fee. Palazzo Ripetta is also the easier room for most of our hotels: ROMEO Roma is next door, a 1-minute walk, and Bvlgari Hotel Roma 4 minutes. In the same hall, Queen & ABBA and The Lord of the Rings (one night, 16 January 2027) are the best-rated of our nine on Fever on 30 October 2026, 4.8 from 149 and from 218 reviews; Coldplay & Imagine Dragons and Hans Zimmer both hold 4.73. Vivaldi's Four Seasons (4.5) is the classical choice, and the Christmas classics play from 18 to 27 December.
Teatro Ghione is the choice for a Vatican day, and for a piano rather than strings: Ludovico Einaudi on solo piano holds 4.70 from 667 reviews, on 5 November and 3 December 2026 and 14 and 21 January, 11 February and 11 March 2027, at 19:00 except 3 December (21:30). Fever shows it from 20 euros, but on 30 October 2026 that cheapest zone was sold out on the dates it was offered, and the gallery started at 24. Donna Camilla Savelli in Trastevere is a 5-minute taxi ride away; spend the morning on our Vatican Museums early entry or the St Peter's dome climb and the evening here. Fever also lists Candlelight at the TH Roma Carpegna Palace, Boscolo Circo Massimo and L'Opificio, each with fewer than 100 reviews or none yet on 30 October 2026. For a real baroque orchestra instead of a tribute quartet, Opera in Roma's Vivaldi Four Seasons at St Paul's Within the Walls on Via Nazionale held 4.69 from 195 reviews on Fever that day, from 20 euros, for about 75 minutes.
On zones at Palazzo Ripetta: Premium and Zone A are nearest the musicians and cost about twice Zone D (Morricone: Premium 50 to 56.50, A 43 to 49.50, B 37.50 to 43, C 32 to 36.50, D 26.50 to 30 euros, by date). Zone B is the value pick if you want to see the players.

Good for
- An early evening that is short, seated and easy to plan around dinner, with 17:30 concerts on many dates
- Film-music fans: Morricone, Hans Zimmer and The Lord of the Rings
- Families with children of 8 and over
Not for
- Anyone who wants to hear the artist: most shows are tributes
- Classical purists: these are arrangements, except Vivaldi; Opera in Roma suits you better
- Latecomers: nobody is let in once the music starts
From our Rome hotels
Times are routed taxi times without traffic from each hotel in our Rome edit to Palazzo Ripetta, Via di Ripetta 231; in the evening traffic adds to them, and the one-way streets of Campo Marzio make some routes longer than the walk. ROMEO Roma is next door, a 1-minute walk, and Bvlgari Hotel Roma 4 minutes. The nearest metro station is Flaminio (line A), about 500 metres away, as Fever says; Spagna (line A) is about 700 metres. For Teatro Ghione by St Peter's, the taxi times are 5 minutes from Donna Camilla Savelli and 8 from Eitch Borromini Palazzo Pamphilj; the nearest station there is Roma San Pietro, about 350 metres away.

Complaints
The catch
Seats go in order of arrival
Seats are not numbered. Staff seat you within the zone on your ticket as you arrive, and friends sit together only if they bought the same zone and arrive together, Fever says.
What to do. Arrive when the doors open, 30 minutes before, and arrive as a group.
Nobody gets in late
Fever does not admit latecomers, and asks the audience not to leave their seats during the concert except in an emergency.
What to do. Allow for Roman traffic; from ROMEO Roma or Bvlgari Hotel Roma, walk.
No refunds
Rome tickets cannot be refunded under any circumstances, Fever says; you can change the date or time up to 48 hours before, if there is space.
What to do. Book once your evening is fixed.
The cheapest Einaudi seats go first
Fever shows Einaudi from 20 euros, but on 30 October 2026 that zone was sold out on the two dates it was offered, and the gallery started at 24.
What to do. Book early in the run if price matters.
Photos only in the last piece
Phones stay on silent, and photos and video are allowed only during the final piece, without flash.
What to do. Keep the phone away until the musicians say so.
