The Sentiero degli Dei, the Path of the Gods, follows the mountainside of the Monti Lattari high above Praiano and Positano. The classic route starts at Bomerano, a hamlet of Agerola about 640 metres up, and ends at Nocelle, the highest hamlet of Positano, about 450 metres up. Positano.com, the town's long-running tourism guide, gives it as 7.8 km, waymarked in red and white. Over the whole way the coast lies open below you: Positano, the Li Galli islets, the Sorrento peninsula and Capri to the west, the Gulf of Salerno to the south.

This walk is run by Hiking the Sky Amalfi Coast, a local hiking outfit. You meet at Caffetteria il Ritrovo on Piazza Paolo Capasso in Bomerano, where the guide wears a white hat. The listing gives the walk as about 7 km and about four and a half hours, with about 250 metres of descent, graded E, moderate. On the way the guide points out the Dominican convent of San Domenico above Praiano, Capri and its Faraglioni, and talks about the plants, the geology and the life of the terraces. Hiking pole rental and photos are included, and from May to mid-October so is a lemon slush. The guiding is in English, Italian, Spanish and French, in a shared group.

The tour ends in Nocelle. From there you take the local bus down to Positano, or walk down the steps: the operator counts 1,800, Positano.com about 1,500, a drop of about 500 metres to Arienzo on the coast road, about 1 km from the centre of Positano. In summer the operator suggests packing a swimming costume for Fornillo beach at the end.

Getting to Agerola is part of the plan. SITA Sud buses climb from Amalfi to Bomerano, and Travelmar sells a ferry and shuttle ticket: on 27 October 2026 its page listed 16 euros from Positano, 18 from Salerno and 11 from Minori or Maiori, with the shuttle taking about 40 minutes from Amalfi to Bomerano. The operator says parking in Agerola is free, but the walk is one way, so a car stays behind at the start.

Why this one

Of the guided Path of the Gods walks we compared on GetYourGuide on 27 October 2026, this is the one that starts at the trailhead in Agerola at the lowest price: from 65.55 euros, rated 4.9 from about 80 reviews, with the guide scored 5.0 out of 5 and value 4.9. The review count is small, and that is the one reason to pause. The most reviewed rival is From Sorrento: Path of the Gods Guided Hike with Transfers, rated 4.8 from about 650 reviews, from 80 euros, a six hour day with transport from Sorrento: book that one if you are staying in Sorrento. Sorrento: The Path of the Gods Hike is rated 4.7 from about 110 reviews, from 88 euros. Another guided walk from Bomerano, Path of the Gods: Guided trekking on the Amalfi Coast, costs 140 euros and had one review.

The path itself is free and waymarked, so confident walkers can do it alone, with the SITA bus or the Travelmar shuttle to Bomerano. The guide adds the way, the stories and the photos, and someone who knows the path in poor weather. If you would rather see the same cliffs from the water, Amalfi Coast and Positano small-boat trip with snorkelling is the boat day we would book; for Capri itself, Capri and the Blue Grotto by small boat, with pickup in Positano. Our ten hotels on the Amalfi Coast are on the destination page.

  • Children under 7, pregnant women and people with heart problems, says the operator

The coast road and the climb to Agerola are slow in traffic, so treat them as the least time it takes. Complaints

    The catch

    1. You make your own way to the start

There is no pickup. The meeting point is in Bomerano, high in Agerola, reached by SITA bus from Amalfi, by Travelmar's ferry and shuttle, by taxi or by car.

What to do. Plan the trip to Bomerano the day before and aim to arrive with time for a coffee at the meeting point.

    2. The tour ends above Positano, not in it

The walk finishes in Nocelle. From there it is the local bus, or a descent of well over a thousand steps to the coast road and about 1 km into town.

What to do. Save your legs for the steps, or take the bus down and keep the afternoon for Fornillo beach.

    3. Shoes matter

The operator asks for shoes with a good grip and does not allow sandals, flip-flops or bare feet. The path is stony and uneven.

What to do. Wear trail or sports shoes you have already walked in, and take the hiking poles offered.

    4. Summer noons are hot

In the weather data we looked at, the median at noon at Bomerano is 26.6°C in July, with clear skies on about three days in four. Food and drink are not included, and toilets are in bars at the start only.

What to do. Bring at least a litre of water each, a hat and a snack, and use the toilets before you set off.

    5. Leaving a car means coming back for it

Parking in Agerola is free, says the operator, but the walk is one way, ending on the other side of the mountain.

What to do. Come by bus, boat or taxi rather than drive, unless you are happy to return for the car.
