  A retro soda fountain in the Beach Club, with booths, oldies on the jukebox and tables outside over Stormalong Bay, and the house showpiece, the Kitchen Sink, $39 and meant for four: scoops of five flavours under hot fudge, peanut butter, Snickers pieces, a brownie and every other topping in the house. Before it, the Angus beef burger is $25 and the grilled cheese with tomato soup $18. It serves from 11am to 11pm. Book a table for a meal; ice cream and drinks are also sold to take away.

  The character meal next door. Minnie's Beach Bash Breakfast runs from 7.30am to 11.30am, with Minnie Mouse and friends in their beachwear for photographs and autographs during the meal, and a buffet of Mickey- and Minnie-shaped waffles, scrambled eggs, omelette and carving stations and salted caramel beach buns, at $52 an adult and $35 a child, plus tax and gratuity. Dinner, from 5pm to 9pm, is a New England buffet with a steam boil of clams, mussels and shrimp, without characters, also $52; snow crab legs are $29 a pound extra. Book well ahead.

  Celebrity chef's seafood room at the Dolphin · $$$

  The famous chef's table within a short walk: Todd English, a four-time James Beard Award winner, created this coastal seafood restaurant in the Dolphin, in an underwater-themed room designed by Jeffrey Beers. Start with the clam chowder, $16, then bluezoo's simply fish, $45, for which you pick the fish, from Florida mahi-mahi to swordfish, and the sauce, or the butter-poached whole Maine lobster with ginger-soy udon, $80. Dinner is from 5pm to 10pm, with a happy hour from 4pm. It is a Signature restaurant, so no swimwear, and book ahead.

  The bar worth the evening, opened on 1 October 2026 in the former Jellyrolls piano bar and styled on the golden era of seaside leisure. From 4pm to 9pm it welcomes all ages, with a host running games, trivia and bingo; from 9pm it is for over-21s with photo ID, and live music, a different genre each night, plays until 1am. Order the meatballs in tomato gravy, $15, or the antipasto with burrata, $21, and a Caramel Corn Old Fashioned, $21. There are no reservations, so arrive early for a table.

  A Japanese dining room in the Swan, all dark teak and colourful kimonos, with a sushi bar where the chefs work in view. The Kimonos roll of tuna, yellowtail and salmon is $21, the dragon roll with crispy shrimp and eel sauce $23, the nigiri sampler $29 and the Wagyu beef skewers $25. It is open every day from 5.30pm to 11.30pm, and from 9.30pm the room turns to karaoke, which makes it a late night out on this side of the lake. Book for dinner.

  Gwendolyn Rogers's Indiana bakery restaurant on the BoardWalk, with views over Crescent Lake, and the breakfast worth walking round the lake for. It serves from 7am to 10.30am: crab cake eggs Benedict on a croissant at $32, Pixie Fetti buttermilk pancakes at $18, or an all-butter croissant with raspberry jam at $12. Lunch runs to 4.30pm and dinner to 11pm, and the Roses of Gold afternoon tea must be booked in advance, never on the day. The bakery counter, open from 7am to 11pm, sells cakes, macarons, croissants and coffee to take away.

  Disney's trattoria on the BoardWalk, with a brick oven and an oak grill, open for breakfast from 7.30am to 11.30am and dinner from 5pm to 10pm. At breakfast order the al forno eggs, roasted in the brick oven with polenta, fennel sausage and spiced tomato sauce, $19. At dinner start with the cacio e pepe arancini, $16, then the lasagna al forno at $36 or the oak-grilled strip steak with truffle mascarpone risotto at $44. There is no character dining here at present. Book ahead for dinner.

  The cheap and good counter on the BoardWalk, modelled on the delis of the American Northeast and open from 7am to 10pm. Breakfast is house-baked bagels: egg, bacon and cheddar on a plain bagel for $9.29, or smoked salmon with caper-onion cream cheese for $10.29. Later, the warm corned beef Reuben on marble rye is $16.19 and the meatball sub $14.19, with a hand-piped cannoli at $4.99 to finish. Order at the counter or ahead by mobile order, and take it for a walk along the BoardWalk.
