The catch at Disney's Yacht Club Resort

Five things stand between Stormalong Bay and the stay. None of them is hidden, and none outweighs a pool afternoon nine minutes' walk from Epcot, but each one changes which room you book, which month you come and how you plan the park days.

On our shortlists

  1. The entry rooms look over gardens, rooftops or the car park, and the lake costs $118 a night more.

Disney sells the Resort View, the cheapest room, on a view of garden, rooftop or parking area, and recent guests have found theirs facing a roof and wires, a car park or the bus stop. The Water View looks over Crescent Lake or the Yacht Club's quiet Admiral Pool instead, with the same king or two queens, a day bed in some rooms and room for the same five adults, and on Tuesday 2 February 2027 it cost $774 a night before tax against $656. A view over Stormalong Bay itself comes only with Club Level: in the Club Level Water View at $1,070, or in the Turret and two-bedroom suites, which look over Stormalong Bay or Crescent Lake.

What to do. Book the Water View and ask for the Crescent Lake side, which looks across the water towards the BoardWalk. If the room is only for sleeping between park days, the Resort View saves $118 a night.

  2. Building work runs at the Yacht Club into late 2026 and next door at the Beach Club until late 2027.

Disney's notice puts the Yacht Club under visible exterior maintenance through late 2026, a date already moved once from October 2025, with views affected, work to see and hear in the daytime and, at times, detours around it. In September 2026 the scaffolding reached the lobby's lake-facing entrance, and guests were routed round the side past Ale & Compass. Next door, the Beach Club, which shares Stormalong Bay, is under the same kind of work through late 2027, and its remaining siding and roofing runs all the way to where the two hotels meet. Scaffolding and daytime noise are a steady complaint from guests this autumn.

What to do. Ask for a room away from the work when you book and again at check-in. Before a stay in late 2026, check whether Disney's notice still lists the Yacht Club, because its end date has slipped before.

  3. Only Epcot and Hollywood Studios are on foot, by boat or by Skyliner; Magic Kingdom and Animal Kingdom are a bus ride away.

Epcot's International Gateway is a 9-minute walk from the hotel, the Skyliner station beside it has gondolas to Hollywood Studios, and Friendship boats run from the resort's dock to both parks. Magic Kingdom and Animal Kingdom are by bus, from a stop a short walk from the lobby, or 15 and 18 minutes by car to their car parks with the roads clear, which here means off-peak. Off-peak, Universal Studios is 26 minutes by car and Epic Universe 28. The Skyliner closes from 24 to 30 January 2027, with buses in its place. Early entry, 30 minutes every day at every park, comes with any Disney hotel; the Deluxe perk, extended evening hours, runs only on select nights at select parks, and both need park tickets.

What to do. Build the week around Epcot and Hollywood Studios and give the other two parks the days you least mind a bus. Self-parking is free for hotel guests, so a hire car costs only the hire.

  4. Stormalong Bay is shared by three hotels, and on busy days it fills up.

The pool belongs to the Yacht Club, the Beach Club and the Beach Club Villas, and Disney keeps it out of pool hopping, so guests of other Disney hotels cannot swim here. Three hotels' worth of families is still a crowd: on busy days and in school holidays the shaded loungers go early, the lazy river has only a few tubes to go round, and at peak hours the pool feels full, a steady theme among recent guests. Disney says hours and lifeguard cover vary by pool. The poolside cabanas, with cocktail service, can be booked only by guests of the two hotels, at a price Disney does not publish.

What to do. Go down early for a shaded lounger, or take the calm hour at the Yacht Club's own Admiral Pool, in a quiet garden with a whirlpool. On a holiday week a cabana is the way to be sure of shade.

  5. It is priced as a Disney Deluxe hotel, and the holidays cost up to 60 per cent more.

On most Sunday to Wednesday nights between 3 January and 3 February 2027 the Resort View is $656 before tax, and $738 once the 12.5% tax is added. There is no resort fee and self-parking is free, but valet is $42 a night, sales tax included. Presidents' Day week, most of March and the weeks around Easter run 20 to 35 per cent above that January weeknight, and Christmas to New Year 54 to 60 per cent: $1,012 a night in 2026 and $1,052 in 2027 for the same room. The cheapest weeknights fall between 15 August and 9 September, from $614. Meals on the property are priced to match: the steaks at Yachtsman Steakhouse are $60 to $86, and the Cape May Cafe buffet next door is $52 an adult.

What to do. Come in January, or between mid-August and early September, and keep clear of Presidents' Day week, spring break and Christmas. Breakfast from The Market at Ale & Compass, open from 7am, keeps the daily bill down.

Who should skip it

Anyone whose trip is built around Magic Kingdom or Animal Kingdom and will mind a bus or a car on those days. Anyone who wants a spa, a quiet pool in the school holidays, or a lake view from the cheapest room. And anyone booking late 2026 who would mind scaffolding by the door, or 2027 who would mind work at the Beach Club end of the pool.

Who should book it anyway

Families with children who swim, booking an Epcot and Hollywood Studios week. Stormalong Bay, with its sand-bottomed pool, its lazy river and the slide from a shipwreck's mast, is kept for the guests of three hotels; Epcot's International Gateway is nine minutes away on foot, the BoardWalk is across the lake, and boats and the Skyliner cover Hollywood Studios. There is no resort fee and parking is free. Book a Water View on the Crescent Lake side, budget about $775 a night before tax on a winter weeknight, and give the afternoons to the water.
