Trás-os-Montes bistro, river terrace · €€€
Two brothers from Bragança run it on the Quinta do Tedo estate, one in the kitchen and one on the wine: Trás-os-Montes cooking with a Mediterranean lightness, and the quinta's own Douro and Port wines to go with it. There are thirty seats inside and twenty on the terrace, with the Tedo river below, which is the reason to go at lunch. Its own site gives lunch from 12:00 to 14:30 and dinner from 19:00 to 21:30, Wednesday to Sunday; it is closed on Mondays and Tuesdays.

Breakfast is not included in the room-only rates. The flexible rate with breakfast was 100 euros a night more for two than the same rate without, on the February and the April dates alike, and the prepaid rate is sold room only; the pool villas include it, in the villa or at the restaurant. Otherwise it is served in the Open Kitchen at Vale de Abraão, and guests praise it as a multi-course affair built on the kitchen garden, which is as well, because any alternative means a drive.
The trap is Monday night. The hotel's second restaurant is closed on Sundays and Mondays, and three of the six tables above close on Mondays too, so leave that evening to chance and your choice is the main dining room or the bar. Book Monday's dinner before you arrive.
