Ciampino to Rome: every way in, timed and priced

Ciampino is 15 km south-east of Rome and closer to most of our hotels than Fiumicino, but it has no train of its own. That makes the choice simpler than it looks: a fixed-fare taxi to the door, or a bus to a station and a change. Here is each option, where it leaves from at the airport, and the way we would reach each of the ten hotels in our Rome edit.

The short answer

Take a white taxi from the rank outside arrivals: €40 fixed to all ten of our hotels, typically 31–39 minutes, with no changes. The cheapest way is the Ciampino Airlink, a bus from the square opposite the airport to Ciampino station and a train to Termini, €2.70 on one ticket. Coaches to Termini take about 40 minutes from the stops opposite departures.

  • CIARome Ciampino (CIA). Rome's smaller airport, south-east of the city, used mostly by low-cost European airlines and slightly closer to our hotels by road.

From the airport to our ten hotels

Is there a train from Ciampino airport?

Not from the airport itself. The Ciampino Airlink is Trenitalia's combined service: a bus every 20 minutes from the square opposite the airport to Ciampino station, then a regional train to Termini, all on one €2.70 ticket. The ATRAL bus also runs to Ciampino station. If your hotel is on the Colosseum side, city bus 720 to Laurentina and Metro line B can be the more direct route.

Ciampino to Rome at night

Ciampino takes no commercial flights between 23:00 and 06:00, and the arrivals terminal closes at midnight. After a late landing, the taxi rank is the reliable answer and the €40 fixed fare does not change at night. A pre-booked driver tracks the flight, so a delay pushing you towards midnight changes nothing.

Going back to Ciampino

The fixed fare works in both directions: ask the hotel to call a taxi and pay €40. For a first-wave flight, the departures terminal stays open overnight only for passengers with a flight in the next 24 hours, and the first café opens at 04:00, so the taxi at dawn is the comfortable plan. Check the airport code on your booking: CIA is Ciampino, FCO is Fiumicino, and the taxi between them is €55.
