What we looked for

Value on the Amalfi Coast is relative. Positano is among the dearest places on the coast, and the least expensive of our three there starts at about €1,340 a night. The smarter money goes east of Amalfi and up the hill, where a family-run hotel or a small palazzo charges a fraction of that for a room with breakfast.

All our prices include breakfast and IVA at 10%; each comune adds its own tourist tax, paid at the hotel, and only Caruso, in Ravello, includes it in its price. Two things decide which of these two suits you. Minori is flat, with the beach, the buses and the ferry pier on foot, but it has no clifftop view and the coast road runs through the middle. Scala is quiet and high, with the view across to Ravello, but there is no beach and most days start with a taxi or a bus. The cheapest weeks at almost every hotel are late March, April and late October.

Hotel Santa Lucia

Minori, Amalfi Coast

Hotel Santa Lucia is the lowest price in our ten, and the money buys more than a bed. It is a family-run four-star of 25 rooms, run by the Sammarco family for more than 50 years, and a buffet breakfast with local produce is in every rate. It stands in the middle of Minori, on level ground, so the savings carry on outside: the beach is 3 minutes on foot, the ferry pier 4 and the SITA buses 2, and Travelmar reaches Amalfi in 10 minutes for €5.

A lift serves every floor, and the Classic Family rooms take two adults and two children. Garum serves local fish in the evening, and half board is offered.

Every room, and why

Families of four should look at the Mini Suite: in June 2027 it was €13 a night more than a Classic Family room, with nearly twice the space.

Palazzo Pascal

Scala, Amalfi Coast

Palazzo Pascal is for anyone who wants a view and a sense of occasion at a fraction of a clifftop price. It is a family-run house of 13 rooms and suites in Minuta, a hamlet of Scala, and the MICHELIN Guide gives it a Key. The panoramic pool in the garden faces Ravello and the sea, breakfast is à la carte and included, and dinner at Gli Ulivi uses herbs and produce from the hotel's own garden.

The price holds through the summer: the entry room is about €375 a night from late March to mid-October, with no rise in July and August, and about €300 in March and from mid-October. Every room has Pascal ceramics, and public parking nearby is included.

Questions people ask

Good questions about Amalfi Coast

What is the cheapest good hotel on the Amalfi Coast?

In our ten, Hotel Santa Lucia in Minori, from about €225 a night for two with breakfast. On Tuesday 8 June 2027 an Economy Double was €223 and the Superior Room €280. It is a family-run four-star with a lift to every floor, 3 minutes from the beach and 4 from the ferry pier. Minori's tourist tax, €4 per person per night at four-star hotels with under-14s exempt, is paid at the hotel.

When is the Amalfi Coast cheapest?

In the opening weeks of the season and at the end of it. At almost all of our ten, late March, April and late October are the cheapest weeks, and June to September the dearest. Most hotels close from about November to March. Palazzo Pascal is the exception to the summer rise: its entry room is about €375 from late March to mid-October, with no rise in July and August.

Is it cheaper to stay in Minori than in Positano?

Much cheaper. Hotel Santa Lucia in Minori starts at about €225 a night with breakfast; the least expensive of our three in Positano, Palazzo Murat, starts at about €1,340. Minori is also flat, with the beach and the ferry pier 5 minutes from the Basilica, and Travelmar sails to Positano all year. The trade is the view: Minori has no clifftop outlook, and the coast road runs through the centre.

Is the tourist tax included in the room price?

Usually not. Room rates include IVA at 10%, and the imposta di soggiorno is added and paid at the hotel. Each comune sets its own: Minori charges €4 per person per night at four-star hotels, with under-14s exempt, and Scala up to €5 for the first 7 nights from March to October, with children up to 12 exempt. Breakfast is included at both Hotel Santa Lucia and Palazzo Pascal.

How did you choose these hotels?

Independently, through extensive research, trusted sources and first-hand visits. Hotels cannot pay to be included, and every one of the ten has to exist for a different reason.
