The catch at Seaside Palm Beach
Four things stand between the photographs and the stay. None of them is hidden, and none is a reason to pass on a hotel with this much style four minutes from the dunes, but each one decides something: which room to book, what to pack for dinner and where to spend the afternoon.
On our shortlists
The cheapest room has a limited or street view, and the pool and the sea are on opposite sides
The Twin Room, the entry category, is on the second and third floors, and its balcony has a limited or street view. The garden, the pool or the sea starts with the Superior Room, which was €287 a night for two with breakfast on Tuesday 8 June 2027, against €246 for the Twin. Even then the category covers three outlooks, and the pool and the sea do not share a side. The building is a long curve: its inner face looks west over the palm garden and the main pool, and its outer face stands over Avenida del Oasis, where the higher floors see across the rooftops to the dunes and the sea. The Deluxe Room, at €351, is the category sold on the fifth to seventh floors.
What to do. Pay the €41 for the Superior and say at booking which side you want: the pool side for the palms, or a high floor on the dunes side for the sea. If the sea is the point, the Deluxe Room's upper floors are the surer route.
Three of the four doubles are 25 m² before the balcony, and only one category promises a king-size bed
The Twin, Superior and Deluxe Rooms all measure 25 m², or 33 m² counting the 8 m² furnished balcony, which is compact for five stars. The Deluxe adds height, a daily newspaper and L'Occitane toiletries, not floor space. The Corner Deluxe is the largest double at 27 m², and the first real step up in space is the Junior Suite at 34 m². The beds follow the same line: the Twin, Superior and Deluxe Rooms and the suites are fitted with twin beds, and the Corner Deluxe is the one category that promises a king-size bed. A double takes two adults and a child; a suite takes three people.
What to do. If you want one bed rather than two, ask when you book, or book the Corner Deluxe. If you want room to spread out, the Junior Suite, €448 on the June night with breakfast, is the first category that has it.
It is a family resort of 328 rooms, and the main pool terrace is shared by all of them
Seaside Palm Beach is a family hotel as well as a design one. Pepe's Club takes children aged 4 to 12, and younger ones with a parent, and there are two heated children's pools, one with a slide and a water polo net. The main freshwater pool and its terrace are for everyone, and sunbeds cannot be reserved: staff check the loungers every day and remove towels left on empty ones. In summer Bar Africano, on the pool terrace, has live music in the open air until 11pm, and Bar Salón runs an evening entertainment programme most nights. The quiet water is in the spa garden, where the 30°C saltwater wellness pool and the brine pool are for adults only and included in the room price.
What to do. Spend the afternoons at the adults-only spa pools rather than the main pool. In summer, light sleepers should ask for a room away from the pool terrace.
Dinner has a dress code, and the two à la carte restaurants close on Sundays and Mondays
At dinner men need long trousers and shirts with sleeves, and flip-flops are not allowed; at breakfast and lunch the rule is resort casual, with a covered swimsuit allowed and no sleeveless shirts for men. Il Giardino, the Italian, and La Bodega, the tapas room, open Tuesday to Saturday only, from 18:30 to 22:00 in winter and 19:00 to 22:30 in summer, and their opening months vary with the season. On Sunday and Monday nights dinner is the Main Restaurant, which runs a themed barbecue buffet three evenings a week, or a walk out. On the All Inclusive Premium plan, dinner is in the Main Restaurant, with an à la carte dinner included only on stays of seven nights or more.
What to do. Pack long trousers and a sleeved shirt for every night, and book Il Giardino or La Bodega at the front desk on arrival. For Sunday and Monday, TIME and El Senador Beach House, three and six minutes away, both serve dinner.
Who should skip it
Anyone who needs a large room, anyone who wants a main pool without children around it, and anyone who would rather not dress for dinner. Also anyone booking the Twin Room for the view: its balcony has a limited or street view, which is the easiest mistake to make here.
Who should book it anyway
Anyone who wants a design hotel that is also a proper beach resort: Alberto Pinto's Seventies colour from the bar to the bedrooms, five pools under the palms with two warm adults-only ones in a spa included in the rate, and Playa de Maspalomas four minutes from the door. Book the Superior Room, pack long trousers and take the spa pools in the afternoon, and everything above is the price of staying somewhere with this much character by the dunes.
