The catch at Hotel Faro, a Lopesan Collection Hotel
Five things stand between the photographs and the stay. None of them is hidden, and most come down to choosing the right room and the right side of the building, because this is an adults-only hotel on a lively corner of the Maspalomas seafront, sold room only.
On our shortlists
- Best beach hotels in Gran CanariaAdults only, with the sand of Playa de Maspalomas at its corner
- Best adults-only hotels in Gran Canaria18 and over, at the lighthouse, with the sand starting at the corner
- Best hotels with a view in Gran CanariaThe Atlantic straight ahead from the Double Superior View balconies
The two cheaper room types face away from the sea, or only sideways to it, and their bathrooms are open
The entry Double Deluxe, 35 m² including a 7 m² balcony, is sold with a view of the mountains and the street. The Double Superior has the same plan and a side view of the sea: towards the lighthouse, along the beach to the distant dunes or over the boulevard, depending on the side, and the category does not say which. Both have what the hotel calls an open bathroom, with a rain shower, which leaves little privacy for two, and it is the one thing guests mark down consistently. The first rooms sold looking straight out to sea are the Double Superior View, 33.5 m² with a smaller 5.5 m² balcony, and the Junior Suite. On Tuesday 8 June 2027 the Double Superior View was €301 for two, room only, against €208 for the Double Deluxe.
What to do. Pay the €93 for the Double Superior View if the sea is why you came: it faces the Atlantic. If you take a Double Superior, ask for the lighthouse side when you book.
The rooftop pools and Bali beds cost extra, and the roof is not only for residents
Rooftop Faro is the photograph: two small infinity pools of 36 m² facing the Atlantic, the lighthouse alongside, Bali beds, cocktails and tapas from 11:00 to 23:00. Access to those pools is on the hotel's list of paid services and the Balinese beds are under services not included, so a room key alone may not buy you a lounger up there, and the guest price is not published. The roof also sells a day pass to outside visitors aged 16 and over, from €40 a head with a lounger, a welcome cocktail and a three-course lunch, with loungers held until 13:00, so it is not the residents-only, 18-plus terrace the rest of the hotel might suggest. The main pool, 232 m² of fresh water, is free, with sunbeds, umbrellas and towels included.
What to do. Ask at check-in what the roof costs on the days you want it, and plan on the main pool and the beach for the rest.
The lighthouse corner is lively, and the music next door runs late at weekends
The hotel stands where Playa de Maspalomas ends and the Meloneras promenade begins, and its neighbours are bars. El Senador, the beach house next door on the dunes side, programmes DJ and live sessions every day from 16:00 into the evening. Guests in August 2026 reported party music from that side until midnight, and until 2am at weekends, and glass going into the bins late at night. On the roof, Rooftop Faro holds themed nights with live music until 23:00, and its music has carried to the top floors on weekend nights. Plenty of guests sleep through all of it. Light sleepers should plan for it rather than hope.
What to do. If you sleep lightly, ask for a lower floor away from the rooftop and a room on the lighthouse side rather than the dunes side, and pack earplugs for Friday and Saturday.
The sand starts at the corner, not below the lighthouse, and its width comes and goes
Playa de Maspalomas begins at the hotel's south-east corner, three minutes and about 160 m from the front door, and runs east past the Charca lagoon to the dunes, a ten-minute walk along the sand. Directly below the lighthouse and the pool terrace the shore is rock, boulders and a concrete groyne, not sand. The sand at this western end also moves with the seasons: after winter seas the strip at the corner can narrow, at times to a band of wet sand and stones, and the broad golden beach of the postcards then starts further east, towards the Charca. By late summer it has tended to widen again.
What to do. For the widest sand and the dunes, walk ten minutes east along the beach. In winter, treat the main pool as the place to swim at the hotel and the beach as the place to walk.
It is sold room only, there is no spa, and winter costs far more than summer
The standard rate is room only. Breakfast adds about €54 a night for two, and half board, with a buffet dinner, about €122; parking is a paid extra, and so are massages: there is a gym, but no spa or thermal circuit. It is also a winter-sun hotel priced like one. For one Tuesday night, the cheapest room on sale was €184 in mid-July 2027 and €208 in June, but €287 in mid-February, €294 in Holy Week, €327 in January and €395 in the week before Christmas.
What to do. Come between May and August for the lowest rates, and budget for eating out, since the Meloneras promenade starts across the plaza. For winter, book early: on some dates the Double Deluxe sells out first, leaving the Double Superior as the cheapest room.
Who should skip it
Families and anyone under 18, since no guest under 18 can stay. Anyone who wants every meal included, a spa or a resort to stay inside all week. Light sleepers who are not prepared to trade the dunes-side view for a quieter room, and anyone who expects wide sand right under the pool terrace in every season.
Who should book it anyway
Couples who want winter sun without children and a hotel to walk out of rather than stay in. The lighthouse stands beside the pool terrace, the sand starts at the corner, the dunes are ten minutes along the beach, the Meloneras promenade begins across the plaza and the airport bus leaves from the station six minutes away. Book the Double Superior View, €301 for two on a June night, and the Atlantic is straight ahead from the bed.
