The trip leaves from the south breakwater of Puerto de Mogán, the harbour at the western end of the south coast, where GetYourGuide's map puts the start and other sellers of the same trip give Calle Explanada del Castillete as the meeting point. The boat is the Keeper Uno, a 12-metre Fairline Phantom 38 motor yacht licensed for 10 passengers, with a shaded flybridge, a sundeck, two cabins and a toilet with a shower on board, according to its charter listing. Its stern carries the name of the company that runs it, Mogan Sailing Tours, and the Canary Islands government lists it on its register of whale and dolphin watching boats, based at Puerto de Mogán.

The first part of the four hours is the search. The boat runs along the south-west coast, under cliffs and past beaches with no road to them, looking for the dolphins that feed in these waters. The listing names bottlenose, Atlantic spotted, rough-toothed and striped dolphins and pilot whales, and says whales and sea turtles are seen on some trips, depending on the season. This stretch of sea is the Franja Marina de Mogán, a Special Area of Conservation since 2011: Spain's environment ministry describes its 29,993 hectares as a feeding and resting ground for bottlenose, spotted and common dolphins and for loggerhead and green turtles.

Then the boat anchors at a cove on the south-west coast for the swim. The listing includes snorkelling gear and a paddle board, and the yacht has a swim ladder at the stern. Lunch is served on board: the listing names Spanish omelette, potatoes with mojo, pasta salad and cheese, with soft drinks, beer and water.

Every boat here works under the Canary Islands' whale watching decree of 2000: no closer than 60 metres to the animals, no faster than 4 knots within 500 metres, no more than 30 minutes within 100 metres, and no chasing, circling or cutting across their path. The listing is plain that the animals are wild and sightings are not guaranteed.

Why this one

The dolphin trips GetYourGuide sells most on Gran Canaria are larger boats from Puerto Rico. The best seller on GetYourGuide on 6 November 2026, the Catamaran Dolphin Watch Cruise with Snorkeling from Puerto Rico, was rated 4.4 from about 6,300 reviews, from 38 euros, for 3.5 hours with glass panels below deck, a swim stop, a slide, soft drinks and optional pickup. The Puerto Rico Dolphin Watching Cruise, with a glass bottom, was rated 4.3 from about 2,800 reviews, from 40 euros, for 2.5 hours, and the Dolphin and Whale Watching Cruise 4.2 from about 3,300 reviews, from 38 euros, for 2.5 hours, with a free return trip if no animals are seen. This trip, at 89 euros, was the best-rated of those four that day, at 4.7 from about 290 reviews, and the only one that caps the boat at ten guests and includes lunch and a paddle board. The closest small-boat rival, the Dolphin Watching Eco Boat Tour in Small Group, was rated 4.6 from 52 reviews, from 85 euros, for 3 hours.

Book this one for a small boat, a long morning on the water and a proper swim, especially if you are staying in Puerto de Mogán, 7 minutes from the harbour. Book the Puerto Rico catamaran for the lowest price, hotel pickup and glass panels for children who would rather look than swim. The same Keeper Uno trip is listed by other resellers from 80 euros for adults and 65 for children aged 1 to 12, with cancellation 48 hours ahead rather than GetYourGuide's 24. From the same harbour, our pages on the Mogán submarine and on the kayak trip to the sea caves suit families who want something shorter or more active.

  • Anyone with limited mobility: the listing says it is not suitable

Complaints

    The catch

    1. Pack for a swim

The listing asks you to bring swimwear, a towel and biodegradable sun cream; snorkels and a paddle board are on board, and the boat anchors at a cove for the swim.

What to do. Wear swimwear under your clothes and bring a dry layer for the ride back.

    2. Dolphins are wild

The listing says sightings depend on the animals and the season and are not guaranteed, and the Canary Islands decree keeps every boat at least 60 metres away and stops it chasing them.

What to do. Treat the cliffs, the cove and the swim as the sure part of the morning, and the dolphins as the hoped-for part.

    3. There is no pickup

The listing does not include hotel transport. Puerto de Mogán is 28 to 32 minutes by car from the Maspalomas and Meloneras hotels in our edit, and 61 to 67 minutes from the Las Palmas hotels.

What to do. From Maspalomas, allow time to park or take a Global bus; from Las Palmas, the Puerto Rico catamaran with pickup may suit you better.

    4. Book at least 10 hours ahead

GetYourGuide closes bookings 10 hours before departure, and with ten places at most the boat can fill.

What to do. Book a day or two ahead in busy weeks, and early in your stay so a rough day leaves time to move it.

    5. Winter seas are livelier

In the four years of sea data we looked at, the sea off Puerto de Mogán stayed calm on more than nine days in ten from May to November, but on about three days in four in December and January and two in three in March.

What to do. In winter, book early in your stay; GetYourGuide's free cancellation runs to 24 hours before departure.
