Wynn Las Vegas vs Fontainebleau Las Vegas

Eighteen minutes' walk apart at the north end of the Strip. Wynn Las Vegas, from about $400, if you want Tower Suites rated Five-Star for 20 years running, Wing Lei and the only full golf course on the grounds of a Strip resort; Fontainebleau, from about $165, if you would rather have the newest big resort, smoke-free rooms, a six-acre pool deck in season, Lapis Spa and LIV.

Wynn Las Vegas: The atrium, its trees hung with flower ballsThe grand one

Wynn Las Vegas

A 2005 tower with Five-Star suites, spa and Chinese restaurant, a lake show at dinner and its own golf course.

$$From about $400 a night

Choose Wynn Las Vegas if

  • Celebrations
  • Golf trips
  • Spa days and long dinners
  • Couples

The catch

A $55 nightly resort fee plus tax is added to every room, on top of rates that start around $400 before tax midweek and climb far higher in convention and event weeks.

Fontainebleau Las Vegas: The Oasis pool below the blue-glass towerThe new one

Fontainebleau Las Vegas

The Strip's newest big resort: a 67-storey tower with a six-acre pool deck, a two-storey spa and a MICHELIN Key.

$From about $165 a night

Choose Fontainebleau Las Vegas if

  • Pool and spa days
  • Convention trips
  • Big nights out
  • Stay-put weekends

The catch

It stands at the north end of the Strip. The Bellagio fountains are about 45 minutes' walk (3.2 km) and the Venetian 34 minutes, and the Vegas Loop station downstairs runs to the Convention Center, Wynn and Encore, Resorts World and Westgate rather than the centre Strip, so the middle of the Strip means a taxi.

Is Wynn Las Vegas worth it?

Book Wynn Las Vegas for the polished, stay-put version of the city: a spa morning, the lake show or Wing Lei at dinner and a round on the course. Pay the step to a Wynn Tower Suite King, since the Five-Star rating belongs to the Tower Suites. A vast, polished Strip resort you need not leave, with Five-Star suites and spa, a lake show at dinner and golf behind the casino. It is expensive, and from the north end of the Strip the Center Strip is a long walk or a taxi away.

Does Wynn Las Vegas have a pool or a beach?

It has an outdoor pool. There is no beach; the nearest is a drive away.

Is Fontainebleau Las Vegas worth it?

Book Fontainebleau for a new resort you need not leave: the pools, the spa, the restaurants and LIV are all under one roof. Pay the small step to a Gold King Strip Best View, and plan on a taxi or the Loop for the rest of the Strip. A brand-new, self-contained resort where the pool deck, the spa, the restaurants and a nightclub are the holiday, all under one roof. It stands at the north end of the Strip, so the rest of Las Vegas is a taxi ride away.
