Rabelo

Chef Milton FerreiraRegional Douro cooking with a riverside terrace

The terrace on the river at Pinhão is the reason to eat here, ideally at lunch with the boats going past; the room inside, with its murals and vaulted ceiling, is handsome but often quiet at dinner. Milton Ferreira cooks regional food with a refined plate and a serious Douro list, prices sit at the top of the valley and guest feedback on portions and consistency is mixed, so book the terrace and keep it to a couple of courses. It was in the Michelin guide until recently and is not in the 2026 selection. Open daily 12:30 to 15:00 and 19:30 to 22:00, non-residents welcome with a reservation.

For a first Douro stay with the river in front of you and no driving, this is the sensible classic. Take the train, book a balcony you will actually sit on and keep expectations on the fittings realistic.
