El Mirador del Guincho, Buenavista Golf clubhouse
8 min walkGolf clubhouse terrace, daytime only · €€
The restaurant in the clubhouse of the Ballesteros course next door, listed by melia.com among the hotel's venues with a golf course view, and the one place you can walk to for lunch or a drink with the fairways and the sea in front of you. The town hall lists the clubhouse restaurant, as Restaurante Casa Club, with international cooking and daytime hours only, 8:00 to 19:00 in winter and 9:00 to 20:00 in summer, so it is a lunch and a sundowner rather than dinner. Eight minutes along Calle Vista la Monja.

Restaurante El Burgado
5 min by carFish restaurant on the beach · €€
The fish restaurant on Playa de las Arenas, the black-sand cove below the village, and the reason to leave the hotel at lunchtime. The town hall's listing gives fresh fish and rice as the specialities, on a terrace on a rock ledge metres from the sea looking out to Punta de Teno, open every day from 12:00 to 21:00. It is the answer on the day the hotel's terraces feel like the hotel again. Five minutes by car, or a 19-minute walk.

Tasca Baracán
9 min by carVillage grill in El Palmar · €
A tasca in the farming village of El Palmar on the road up into Teno. The town hall's listing gives grilled meats as the speciality and traditional dishes typical of the area, with hours of Monday to Thursday 9:00 to 21:30 and Friday to Sunday 9:00 to 23:00, closed Tuesdays, which makes it one of the few places on this side of Teno serving after nine. Ring ahead for dinner. The least hotel-like meal on this page, and the one to price the half-board buffet against.

A roadside mesón at Las Portelas, the last village before the road drops into Masca, which makes it the lunch after the walk or the drive. Ardeola
14 min by carRice and fish, Garachico seafront · €€€
On the seafront avenue in Garachico, a few steps from the lava rock pools, and known for rice and fresh fish with a broad selection of Canarian wines, which is how the town's own tourist office describes it. Its listings disagree on hours and the website the tourist office gives for it no longer works, so ring before you set out. This is where to have the dinner out that Buenavista cannot give you.

Casa Gaspar
14 min by carOld-town fish house, Garachico · €€
In the old town on Calle Esteban de Ponte, and described by the town's tourist office as a house of arroz caldoso, the soupy Canarian rice, fresh fish and a wide wine list. Fourteen minutes along the coast road, a few streets back from the seafront and Ardeola, so the two can be weighed against each other on the night. The one place on this list that reads like a Sunday lunch.

Breakfast
Breakfast is a buffet in the Buena Vista restaurant, the same pool-view room that does dinner, with cooking in front of you and dishes adapted to allergies according to the hotel's own page. Whether it is in your rate depends on the rate line you buy, so check the board basis before you assume. The nearest alternative is the golf clubhouse eight minutes on foot, open from 8:00 in winter and 9:00 in summer; in the village, the first bar is a 14-minute walk.
What to skip
Masca for dinner. The town hall lists six restaurants in the village and every one of them is daytime only, the latest closing at 20:00, so the road over the pass does not do an evening meal beyond the mesón at Las Portelas, which serves until 23:00 five nights a week. Eat in Masca at lunch, after the views, and drive back before dark.
