Hotel Botánico & The Oriental Spa Garden
The north's established five-star, with a serious spa and gardens that justify the cloudier skies.

Lush north, gardens and wellness.
Puerto de la Cruz, SpainThe take
Botánico has been the reliable north-coast choice since the 1970s, a member of Leading Hotels of the World with subtropical gardens, a view of Teide from the pool and a spa that is genuinely the reason many guests choose it. The Oriental Spa Garden is Thai-inspired, large, and reliably praised for its outdoor thermal circuit and treatment quality, which puts it ahead of anything in the south for wellness.
It is a traditional hotel, and that cuts both ways. Guest feedback praises the old-school service, the generous breakfast and the sense of space; the recurring complaint is that the classic décor, marble and chintz in places, feels dated to anyone used to the modern south-coast hotels. Some refurbishment has been ongoing, so ask for a renovated room.
The setting is the point. Puerto de la Cruz is a real town with a working harbour, a proper botanical garden next door and the green Orotava valley behind. Come for gardens, the spa, Teide day trips and a cooler, gentler pace. Do not come for a tan: the north sits under cloud more often than the brochure suggests, and the pools, though heated, are not always sunbathing weather.

The room to book: Superior Deluxe Teide View
It moves you into the adults-only wing with a proper private terrace and dressing room at 38 m², and points you at the volcano, which guests consistently single out as the memorable view here. The ocean-view version is the alternative, but Teide is the reason to be in Puerto de la Cruz.
- Ask for
- A high floor on the Teide side, and a recently refreshed room; guests consistently note some rooms and bathrooms feel dated.
- Avoid
- The entry Deluxe Garden View if you want any view, and the smallest Deluxe rooms, where guests report there is no room to leave a suitcase open.
