The take

The Taoro is the reason Puerto de la Cruz exists as a resort. It opened in 1890 as one of Spain's first grand hotels, drew the European winter set for decades, then spent most of the past half-century as a casino and, latterly, an empty shell in its own park. Its restoration and reopening as a five-star hotel is the most significant thing to happen to north Tenerife hospitality in a generation.

What you get is a landmark: the pale Victorian pile on its terrace in Parque Taoro, gardens all round, and views straight down over the old town to the Atlantic and, on a clear morning, up to Teide. Early feedback praises the building, the sense of occasion and the position. It is also honest about the things new hotels get wrong at first, service that is still finding its rhythm and a food offer that is not yet as sure as the setting.

We include it because a hotel like this comes along once. Book it for the story and the views, expect a few rough edges while it settles, and read the most recent reviews before you commit. If you need everything to run like clockwork, Botánico down the hill is the safer north-coast choice.

The room to book: Double Deluxe Room, Panoramic View, with a balcony confirmed

Every Deluxe is the same 30 m², so the upgrade money should go on the outlook. The Panoramic tier is the only one that frames both the Atlantic and Teide, which is the whole point of this hilltop landmark. Balconies are not guaranteed in any Deluxe category, so paying for one is the difference between a view and a window.

Ask for
A balcony explicitly confirmed at booking, and a high floor on the Teide side for sunrise on the volcano.
Avoid
Garden View rooms if you came for the view, and any room without a balcony: the listed façade means the windows are small.

Is Gran Hotel Taoro worth it?

A landmark worth the small gamble of a young hotel. Check availability, and check the latest reviews the same day. Newly reopened, so the setting is surer than the service.

Does Gran Hotel Taoro have a pool or a beach?

It has an outdoor pool. There is no beach; the nearest is a drive away.

Where is Gran Hotel Taoro?

It is in Puerto de la Cruz, Spain, about 39.8 km from Playa del Duque and around 35 minutes by car from TFN airport.

How much does Gran Hotel Taoro cost?

Entry rooms typically start from about €250 a night outside peak dates. We show typical rates, never live prices or invented discounts.

Which room should I book at Gran Hotel Taoro?

Double Deluxe Room, Panoramic View, with a balcony confirmed. Every Deluxe is the same 30 m², so the upgrade money should go on the outlook. The Panoramic tier is the only one that frames both the Atlantic and Teide, which is the whole point of this hilltop landmark. Is Gran Hotel Taoro adults-only?

No, but it suits couples more than families.
