A coach collects you from the meeting point nearest your hotel in Corralejo or Caleta de Fuste and takes you to Corralejo harbour for the 10:30 boat. Líneas Romero, which runs both the tour and the ferry, puts the crossing to Playa Blanca at about 30 minutes, and the listing has you on the open deck for it. On the quay at Playa Blanca your guide meets you with an air-conditioned coach, and the day on Lanzarote begins.
The first stop is Timanfaya National Park. Its volcanoes erupted for six years, from 1730 to 1736, and the park now protects more than 5,100 hectares of lava, cinder and craters; from the Islote de Hilario, the Cabildo's visitor centre, you look out over more than 25 craters in a few square kilometres. The ground there is still hot: the Cabildo's geothermal demonstrations show it, and the El Diablo restaurant grills over a well five metres deep where the earth reaches about 250 degrees. You cannot walk or drive freely in the park: the only way through its heart is the Ruta de los Volcanes, about 14 km of road laid out by César Manrique and travelled by coach. The 30 euro park ticket is included in the price.
From the fire mountains the coach heads to La Geria, the wine country where vines grow in pits dug into black volcanic ash, each sheltered from the wind by a curved stone wall, for a wine tasting. Then comes an aloe vera museum, where the operator says you learn how the island's other crop is used, and a drive along the south-west coast to El Golfo. There, 100 metres from the black sand beach, lies the Charco de los Clicos: a lagoon coloured green by the algae on its bed, under cliffs of layered volcanic rock, and a natural reserve. The coach returns to Playa Blanca for the boat back to Corralejo and the transfer to your meeting point.
GetYourGuide lists the whole day at about seven hours with the transfers. Líneas Romero sells the same tour, under the name Volcán Express, at the same 83 euros, with a children's price of 60 euros, and lists a return ferry, the coach, the Timanfaya entry, the wine tasting, the aloe vera museum ticket, an official guide and travel insurance.
Why this one
It is the most-reviewed day trip to Lanzarote from Fuerteventura that we found on GetYourGuide: rated 4.4 from about 1,400 reviews on GetYourGuide on 26 October 2026, a bestseller there, with its guides and its transport each scored 4.7. Its closest rival from Fuerteventura, the 15-hour Lanzarote tour with lunch, was rated 4.5 from about 320 reviews at 160 euros; it adds Jameos del Agua and a sit-down lunch and serves the south of the island, so it is the one to book from Costa Calma or Jandía, where this tour does not collect. From Corralejo or Caleta de Fuste, this one costs about half as much and has you home for dinner.
Doing it yourself does not save money. Líneas Romero's own Lanzarote at your own pace, the same coach and ferry without a guide, costs 45 euros; add the 30 euro Timanfaya ticket, which the Cabildo sells only online for a timed slot, and you are at 75 euros before you have hired a car to reach the park. If you would rather stay on Fuerteventura, our page The island in a day covers it in a minibus of eight; for more than a day on Lanzarote, see our Lanzarote hotel guide and our ferry page, Lanzarote to Fuerteventura.

- A first look at Lanzarote's volcanoes without hiring a car

When to go
Two places decide the day: the Bocaina Strait between the islands, crossed twice, and Timanfaya at midday. Waves and calm days are modelled for the open sea between Corralejo and Playa Blanca from 10:00 to 17:00; temperature and cloud for the Islote de Hilario at 13:00.

Temperature is the median at 13:00 at the Islote de Hilario, with the coldest day in ten after it; clear sky, the share of days with little cloud at 13:00. Waves are the median of each day's highest wave between 10:00 and 17:00 in the strait; calm sea, the share of days when they stay under 1.5 metres. Weather 2021 to 2025, sea 2022 to 2025, from Open-Meteo.
The calmest crossings are from May to September
In the four years of sea data we looked at, the day's highest waves in the strait stayed under 1.5 metres on about eight days in ten from May to September, against fewer than half the days from December to February and about one in five in March. Timanfaya is mild all year, between 19°C and 25°C at 13:00, but the Cabildo advises warm clothes from October to April, when the park is windy, and a cap and sun cream from June to September.
From our Fuerteventura hotels
Drive times are routed from each of our Fuerteventura hotels to Corralejo harbour, where the boat leaves at 10:30. The coach collects from the meeting point nearest your hotel in Corralejo and in Caleta de Fuste, and the time and place are confirmed once you give your hotel details. The listing's map also shows a stop at the Cabildo bus stop in Puerto del Rosario: ask the operator before you book from there. The south of the island is outside the pickup area.

The catch
Bring a passport or ID card
You are travelling between islands, and the listing says a valid passport or national ID card is required for every guest.
What to do. Pack it the night before with the booking confirmation.
Timanfaya is seen from the coach
To protect the national park, the Cabildo allows no walking or private driving in it, and asks visitors to stay inside their vehicle from El Taro to the Islote de Hilario. The stops on foot are at the visitor centre and are short.
What to do. Take a window seat and keep your camera to hand. If you want longer in the park, the Cabildo runs a guided small-group visit, the Experiencia Insólita, at 59.90 euros on Mondays, Wednesdays and Saturdays, for a day spent on Lanzarote.
Lunch is not included
The operator's list of inclusions has a wine tasting but no lunch, and the listing asks guests to bring food and drinks.
What to do. Have a good breakfast and pack a sandwich, fruit and water for the day.
The pickup covers Corralejo and Caleta de Fuste
The coach collects from the meeting point nearest your hotel in those two towns, and the time and place come after you give your hotel details. From Costa Calma or Jandía, Corralejo harbour is 93 to 107 minutes by car.
What to do. Enter your hotel name when you book and check the confirmation for your stop. From the south, book the 15-hour Lanzarote tour with lunch instead.
The strait is livelier in winter
In the sea data we looked at, the strait was calm on about eight days in ten from May to September, and on fewer than half the days from December to February. The listing rules the trip out for people with motion sickness and says the itinerary can change with the weather.
What to do. From October to April, take a seasickness tablet if you need one and stand on the open deck, and book early in your stay in case the day changes.
English is the guaranteed language
The listing guarantees the tour in English only; German, French, Italian or Spanish need at least eight guests per language.
What to do. If you want commentary in another language, ask the operator before you book.
