This is a drive, not a ride. Fuerteadventure Excursions collects you from your hotel in Corralejo, or you meet at its office, which has a large car park nearby, and you take the wheel of a two-seat buggy, helmet on, in a convoy behind the driver-guide. The tour lasts two and a half hours. The operator describes dirt tracks across open, silent country, close to old volcanic craters, with views over the sea to the Isla de Lobos and to Lanzarote, and a stop of about 20 minutes at a bar it calls Don Pepe, for a drink or some local tapas, paid on the spot.

The one piece of context that explains the route is the law. The Corralejo dunes are a natural park, and its management plan, published in the Boletín Oficial de Canarias on 4 December 2006, bans motor vehicles from the zones of restricted and moderate use, which take in the dunes and the great beaches, and allows only walking there. So no buggy drives on the sand. The tracks run through the volcanic country outside the park, and ordinary roads link them, which is why the operator calls this a sightseeing tour rather than a rally. Recent guests say the same: the off-road stretches are the highlight, with road driving in between.

The rules are simple and firm. Drivers must be over 18 and carry a full driving licence; the operator does not accept a photo of one. Passengers can be from 4 years old, with an adult. The listing rules the tour out for pregnant women and anyone over 135 kg. The price covers the buggy, fuel, the driver-guide, the helmet, the pickup in Corralejo and insurance for driver, passenger, third parties and rescue. Food, drinks and tips are extra. You can cancel free up to 24 hours before, and you must book at least 15 hours ahead.

Why this one

On GetYourGuide on 26 October 2026 this tour was rated 4.6 from about 1,600 reviews, more than any other buggy tour from Corralejo we found there, with its guides scored 4.8 out of 5, transport 4.7 and value 4.4. It was from 60 euros, and it is the one we would book for driving the north. Its closest rival, the Dune Buggy Tour in Northern Fuerteventura, also from Corralejo, was rated 4.5 from about 1,300 reviews and labelled a bestseller, for two hours from 129 euros. Check what each from-price covers, a person or a buggy, before you compare them.

If you are staying in the south, there is no pickup, and the drive from Jandía takes 95 to 100 minutes each way. There, a guided 4x4 day from the south to the Corralejo dunes and a volcano was rated 4.5 from about 40 reviews, from 69 euros for six hours, with someone else driving; or stay south and book our small-group Cofete and Villa Winter day. For the whole island in one go, our page The island in a day covers it in a minibus of eight. To see Lobos up close rather than across the water, take the catamaran or the speedboat from Corralejo harbour, and if you want your adrenaline in the sea, the beginner surf lesson in Corralejo is four hours on a board.

Good for

  • Couples and friends who want to drive, not be driven
  • Families with children aged 4 and over, riding as passengers
  • Guests staying in Corralejo, with pickup included

Not for

  • Anyone hoping to drive on the dunes: the natural park bans it
  • Drivers without a full licence with them on the day
  • Pregnant women, and anyone over 135 kg

What guests keep saying

Recurring themes in the tour’s reviews, in our words, never quoted.

Praised

  • Friendly driver-guides who keep the convoy together, scored 4.8 out of 5
  • Being at the wheel yourself, in a buggy, in country few visitors see
  • Views over the dunes, Lobos and Lanzarote from the volcanic tracks

Complaints

  • More road and less off-road than some guests expected

The catch

  1. Bring the licence itself, not a photo

Drivers must be over 18 and hold a full driving licence, and the operator says a photo of it is not accepted. Without the card, you ride as a passenger.

What to do. Put the licence in your bag the night before, and decide who drives before you book.

  2. Dress for dust

The tracks are dry and the buggies are open, and recent guests say they were not ready for the dust and sand in their faces. The operator asks for comfortable shoes and sunglasses, and the operator's own photos show drivers with scarves over their faces.

What to do. Wear closed shoes, sunglasses and clothes you do not mind getting dusty, and bring a scarf or buff for your nose and mouth.

  3. The dunes are for walking

The natural park's management plan bans motor vehicles from the dunes and the great beaches, so the route uses the volcanic tracks outside the park, with ordinary roads in between. The operator says plainly that this is a sightseeing tour, not a rally.

What to do. Book it for the volcanic tracks and the views; the dunes are open on foot, so walk them another day.

  4. Pickup is only in Corralejo

Hotel pickup and drop-off are included only from Corralejo. From the south it is a long way: the routed drive to the start is 87 minutes from our Costa Calma hotels and 95 to 100 minutes from those in Jandía, each way.

What to do. If you are staying south, either drive up and meet at the office, which has a large car park nearby, or choose the guided 4x4 day that starts in the south.

  5. Winter and early spring are windier

In the five years of weather we looked at, gusts passed 50 km/h at midday on 14% of days in January and 15% in March, against 3% in September and October. The operator can also cancel for low numbers, with an alternative or a full refund.

What to do. Book early in your stay, so there is time to move the date if the day is too windy or the tour does not run.
