The lesson starts at your door. A van from the school collects you from your accommodation in Corralejo, usually at 09:00 or 09:30, with the boards on board, and drives to the beach the instructor has picked for the day. On the sand comes the theory: how waves form, how currents work, which waves to take, how to stay safe, and how to get from lying on the board to standing on it, practised on dry land first. Then you go in, with the instructor in the water beside the group. The van brings you back at about 13:00 or 13:30, so the whole thing takes a morning.
Which beach depends on the swell and the tide, and that is the point of the van. The school names three it uses: Entubadera, also called El Viejo, 800 metres of sand near Corralejo; Playa El Moro, at the entrance to the Corralejo dunes natural park; and El Cotillo on the west coast. On a big day the instructor drives to whichever of them has small, even waves for beginners, which is something you cannot work out alone on your first morning. Now and then, the school says, sea and tide push the lesson into the afternoon.
Surf Therapy is a school with a shop in the Lobos Bahía centre on Avenida Nuestra Señora del Carmen in Corralejo, and says it has been teaching for more than ten years. It says its instructors hold Canary Islands Surf Federation and ISA Level 2 qualifications; the International Surfing Association's Level 2 is the step after its Level 1 award, for coaches working with intermediate and early advanced surfers. Boards and wetsuits come with every course, the school says, and lessons run every day of the year except 1 January. The water off this coast is between 19°C and 23°C at midday, so the wetsuit is for comfort, not survival.
On GetYourGuide on 26 October 2026 the lesson cost 44 euros, with free cancellation up to 24 hours before. The school's own price for one day is 55 euros.
Why this one
Of the beginner surf lessons in Corralejo on GetYourGuide on 26 October 2026, this one had the most reviews by a distance, about 210, rated 4.5, with the instructors scored 4.8 out of 5 and the transport 4.8. It is also the cheapest of the ones we compared and the one that shows hotel pickup. The 4-Hour Surfing Lesson with Gear Included and Snack rates higher, 4.8 from about 90 reviews, at 50 euros, and Point Break's 1-Day Surf Lesson for Beginners has 4.5 from about 60 reviews, also at 50 euros; neither listing's summary on GetYourGuide shows a pickup, so you make your own way to them. If you have a car and like the sound of the snack, the first is a good alternative. If you want to be collected and driven to the right beach, book this one.
Booking the school direct costs 55 euros for one day, takes a deposit and has stiffer cancellation terms, so for a single lesson GetYourGuide is the better deal. For a week of lessons the school's own course prices come down to 220 euros for five days and 290 for seven, which is worth comparing. Guests at Corralejo Surfing Colors can also book lessons through the hotel, which sells them with Protest Surf Center. Staying in the south, the drive to Corralejo is about an hour and a half each way and the pickup does not reach you. Waves are the median of each day's highest wave between 09:00 and 13:00 at sea off the north coast, before they reach the beaches the school chooses. Water is the median sea temperature at midday. Air is the median at 11:00, with the coldest day in ten after it. Modelled from Open-Meteo history: weather 2021 to 2025, sea 2022 to 2025.
Summer is the gentler season to start
From May to September the median wave off this coast was 1.5 metres, and waves reached 2 metres on fewer than one morning in five. From December to March they reached 2 metres on about half the mornings, 73% in March. In winter the school still finds beginner waves, often by driving further, which is what the van is for.

What guests keep saying
Recurring themes in the tour’s reviews, in our words, never quoted.
Praised
- Instructors who explain clearly and stay patient in the water
- A pickup and drop-off that runs smoothly
- Good value for a whole morning with a board, a wetsuit and a teacher
Complaints
- Some beaches have volcanic rock at the water's edge, which bruises
The catch
Keep the whole morning free
Pickup is usually at 09:00 or 09:30 and drop-off at 13:00 or 13:30, and the beach is chosen on the day. When the north coast is too big, the van goes further, to El Cotillo on the west coast.
What to do. Do not plan a boat, a flight or a lunch booking before 14:00 on lesson day.
Bigger swell from December to March
In the five winters we looked at, waves off this coast reached 2 metres on about half the mornings, against fewer than one in five from May to September. The school can move a lesson to the afternoon or another day when the sea calls for it.
What to do. In winter, book the lesson early in your stay, so there is room to move it.
Rock at the water's edge on some beaches
Several reviews, on GetYourGuide and on Google, mention volcanic rock where you walk in at some of the spots. Fuerteventura's beaches are sand, but its points and reefs are lava.
What to do. Pack reef shoes or old trainers, and walk in where the instructor shows you.
Under-14s need the school direct
This GetYourGuide listing is not suitable for children under 14. The school's own terms set no minimum age, with consent from a parent or guardian.
What to do. For a family with younger children, book the school's beginner course direct.
It is windy after you get out
The school itself points out that Fuerteventura is a windy island, and you will be wet on an open beach. It suggests a windbreaker and sunscreen.
What to do. Bring a windproof layer for the drive back, sunscreen and a lip stick, as well as swimwear, a towel and water.
