Best value hotels in Monaco

The Columbus Hotel Monte-Carlo gives the most Monaco for the money: the lowest entry rate of our ten, a heated outdoor pool with a sea view and a calm base in Fontvieille. Le Méridien Beach Plaza is the beach answer: the only hotel inside the principality with its own beach, plus a heated indoor pool open all year.

What we looked for

Value in Monaco is relative. Typical low-season entry rates across our ten run from 180 euros a night at the Columbus Hotel Monte-Carlo to 700 at The Maybourne Riviera; summer is roughly double, and Grand Prix week higher again, with minimum stays. The two hotels here are the ones where the rate buys the most: a heated pool, terraces over the rose garden or the sea and a quiet residential base at the Columbus Hotel Monte-Carlo, a private beach and heated seawater pools at Le Méridien Beach Plaza.

The extras decide the real cost. At the Société des Bains de Mer hotels breakfast is 48 to 68 euros a head and parking 40 to 70 a day; the airport taxi is a fixed 95 euros before supplements, against 1.70 euros for the tram into Nice and a train on from 7 euros. Aim for April to June or September into October, outside the race and tennis weeks, and use the 1.50 euro bus.

Columbus Hotel Monte-Carlo

Fontvieille, Monaco

The Columbus Hotel Monte-Carlo is the smart-money choice in Monaco. Its typical low-season entry rate is the lowest of our ten, and the hotel does not feel like a compromise: 181 rooms renovated in 2018, two thirds of them with a terrace, a heated outdoor pool with a sea view from mid-April to early November, a Technogym room, and Tavolo's terrace over the rose garden.

The savings carry on after check-in. Valet parking is 30 euros per 24 hours in winter, the lowest published by any of our ten, and 40 from April to October; a city bus stop is 50 metres from the door; and the hotel's free electric shuttle runs out to the old town, the port, the station and the Casino. Dinner can be on the Fontvieille quay, where locals eat, four to six minutes away.

Le Méridien Beach Plaza

Larvotto, Monaco

Le Méridien Beach Plaza is the value answer to a beach holiday in Monaco. It is the only hotel inside the principality with its own beach, a lifeguarded pebble strip inside the Larvotto Marine Reserve from April to September, and it adds four heated seawater basins, two of them for young children, and a heated indoor pool that stays open all year.

For families the value grows in summer: the kids club is free for children aged 4 to 12 in July and August. The casino square is 19 minutes along the level seafront promenade, or a 1.50 euro bus ride on lines 5 and 6, so the savings on the room are not spent on taxis.

Questions people ask

Good questions about Monaco & around

How much does a hotel in Monaco cost?

Typical low-season entry rates across our ten run from 180 euros a night at the Columbus Hotel Monte-Carlo and 220 at Le Méridien Beach Plaza, through 492 at the Hôtel Hermitage Monte-Carlo and 600 at the Hôtel de Paris Monte-Carlo, to 700 at The Maybourne Riviera. Summer is roughly double, and Grand Prix week is higher again, with minimum stays. Breakfast is usually extra, at 48 to 68 euros a head in the Société des Bains de Mer hotels, so check whether your rate includes it.

When is the cheapest time to visit Monaco?

Winter is the cheapest and mild, but Monte-Carlo Beach and Cap Estel close for it and the resort parts of the other hotels wind down. For value without the winter closures, aim for April to June or September into October, and avoid the dates that move prices: the Rolex Monte-Carlo Masters (3 to 11 April 2027), the E-Prix (1 and 2 May 2027), the Grand Prix (3 to 6 June 2027) and the Monaco Yacht Show (23 to 26 September in 2026). July and August are the warm, expensive months.

Should I stay in Nice or Beausoleil to save money?

That depends on where you want to spend your evenings. There are around sixty round trips a day by train between Nice-Ville and Monaco-Monte-Carlo, which makes Nice the better base if the trip is the Riviera with a single day in Monaco. Beausoleil, the French town on the slope above Monte-Carlo, is 8 minutes' walk down to the Casino from its market, and every evening ends with the climb back. If Monaco itself is the point, stay in it: the Columbus Hotel Monte-Carlo has the lowest entry rate of our ten, on the level ground of Fontvieille, with a heated outdoor pool.

What extra costs should I budget for in Monaco?

Breakfast, parking, tourist tax and the airport run. Breakfast at the Société des Bains de Mer hotels is 48 to 68 euros a head. Parking runs from 30 euros per 24 hours at the Columbus Hotel Monte-Carlo in winter to 70 a day at the Hôtel de Paris Monte-Carlo, and 85 a night at the Fairmont Monte Carlo in Grand Prix weeks; public car parks cap at 24 euros a day. Tourist tax is 5 to 7 euros per adult per night in the group's Monaco hotels. The airport taxi is a fixed 95 euros before supplements; the tram into Nice is 1.70 and the train on from 7.

How did you choose these hotels?

Independently, through extensive research, trusted sources and first-hand visits. Hotels cannot pay to be included, and every one of the ten has to exist for a different reason.
