The catch at Barceló Corralejo Sands

Five things stand between the pool photographs and the stay. None of them is hidden, and none outweighs a modern hotel in the middle of Corralejo with the beach, the harbour and dinner on foot, but each one shapes the booking: which room you take, when you come and what you pay for once you are there.

On our shortlists

  1. The hotel is in town, not on the sand: Waikiki Beach is a 7-minute walk and the dunes beaches are a drive.

Barceló Corralejo Sands stands on Calle La Acacia, a side street in the middle of Corralejo, with a supermarket and the shops of the main avenue next door. The nearest beach, Waikiki Beach, is a small sandy town beach on the seafront, 7 minutes on foot. The great beaches of the north, the Grandes Playas below the dunes of Corralejo Natural Park, are 11 to 14 minutes by car, and the old harbour is 15 minutes on foot. No room is sold with a sea view, so the sea is something you walk to rather than look at.

What to do. Walk to Waikiki Beach for a morning swim and keep the Grandes Playas for a beach day with a car or a taxi. If sand at the door matters more than the town, this is the wrong hotel.

  2. One main pool serves 156 rooms, so in busy weeks the sunbeds sit close together and go early.

The hotel has two pools: a main pool of about 500 m² and a separate children's pool, set in a solarium of sunbeds and Balinese beds. There is no adults-only pool, no second main pool and no swim-up room, and the hotel does not say whether the main pool is heated. With 156 rooms around one main pool, the same thing happens every busy week: the loungers are packed close together and the best of them are claimed soon after the pool area opens in the morning.

What to do. Come down early for a lounger in high season, or take a suite with a terrace and use it as your own sun deck in the afternoon.

  3. On summer evenings the entertainment moves from the theatre bar out to the pool bar.

The Eolo Theatre Bar runs the evening programme from 19:00 to midnight, and in the summer season, when the weather allows, the entertainment moves out to the Alisios Pool Bar beside the main pool. The rooms are on two floors around the pool and solarium, so on those nights the shows are outside, beside the main pool that the Suite Pool View looks over. In winter the entertainment stays indoors in the theatre bar. The hotel publishes no finishing time for the outdoor shows beyond the bar's midnight close.

What to do. Light sleepers coming in summer should book the plain Suite or a Deluxe rather than the Suite Pool View, and ask at booking for a room away from the pool bar.

  4. Breakfast is in every rate, but the spa, parking and drinks with dinner cost extra.

No room-only rate is sold: every booking includes the buffet breakfast. Half board adds the buffet dinner but not drinks, and the dinner cannot be swapped for lunch, since the buffet opens only for breakfast and dinner. The wellness centre, with its jet pool, sauna and steam bath, costs extra, admits only guests aged 16 and over, opens Monday to Saturday from 10:00 to 18:00 and asks for a swimming cap, sold at its reception for €2.50. The car park is paid, at a price the hotel gives only at reception. A Poniente, the gastrobar, is not part of the all-inclusive and opens Wednesday to Sunday.

What to do. Price half board before you book: on Tuesday 8 June 2027 it was €14 a night more than breakfast for two in the Double. If you are hiring a car, ask the parking price when you book, and book the spa ahead for any day from Monday to Saturday.

  5. Winter, Christmas and August cost far more than June, and New Year was not on sale.

The cheapest room with breakfast, one night for two on the non-refundable rate, was €138 on Tuesday 8 June 2027, the same as on several May and June dates. On 17 November 2026 the same room was €210, on 27 December €298, on 12 January 2027 €180, on 16 February €189, on 25 March, Holy Thursday, €194 and on 10 August €203. From 29 December 2026 to 2 January 2027 no room was on sale at all. The refundable rate is about €15 a night more than the non-refundable one in June.

What to do. Come in May or June for the lowest rates. For winter sun, mid-January was cheaper than November, February or Easter; for New Year, look early, since the hotel was already closed to sale in October.

Who should skip it

Anyone who wants sand at the door, a sea view from the room or a pool with space to spare in August. Also light sleepers who want a pool-view room in summer, and anyone who wants a spa day on a Sunday or with children.

Who should book it anyway

Couples and families who want a sunny pool week with the town on foot. The main pool is 500 m² with a children's pool beside it, children aged 4 to 12 have the Barcy Club, adults have a hydrotherapy circuit, and Waikiki Beach, the restaurants of the old town and the boats to Isla de Lobos are all a walk away. Breakfast is in every rate, and in June a Double is €138 for two. Book a suite for the space, come in May or June, and spend the evenings in town.
