The catch at El Mirador de Fuerteventura

Four things stand between this former parador and a perfect stay. Three come with what makes it useful, a beach beside the airport and a low price, and one is a gap in the facilities that the hotel does not fill: there is no pool to use.

On our shortlists

  1. The airport is next door, and you will hear the planes

The hotel stands about 1.6 km north of the end of Fuerteventura Airport's runway, a little to one side of its line, so aircraft pass close on their way in and out. That is the reason the airport is five minutes away by car, and it is also the most common complaint: guests in 2026 mention hearing planes from early in the morning until late in the evening, and that closing the balcony door makes a clear difference. The hotel sells one category, the Double Room with Balcony, that it describes as soundproofed. Light sleepers should take the noise into account before anything else.

What to do. If noise worries you, book the Double Room with Balcony, keep the balcony door shut at night and pack earplugs. For one night before an early flight, the trade is worth it.

  2. There is no pool to use in 2026

There is a pool on the grounds, but guests from March to October 2026 found it empty or out of service. The hotel does not advertise a pool anywhere on its own site, so this is not a facility that has failed so much as one that is no longer offered. The swim here is the sea. Playa Blanca, a public beach of golden sand about 875 metres long with showers, is a minute's walk down a path from the grounds, and it is the reason to stay on this stretch of coast.

What to do. Do not book for pool days. Plan on the beach below the hotel, or drive 12 minutes to Caleta de Fuste for the resorts and the harbour.

  3. Beyond the beach there is nothing on foot, so dinner out means a car

The hotel stands on its own on the shore about 3 km south of the centre of Puerto del Rosario, and there is no restaurant, bar or shop within an easy walk. Every table on the where-to-eat page for this hotel is a drive: six or seven minutes into the town, 13 to Puerto Lajas. Express runs of Tiadhe's line 3 stop at Playa Blanca, 10 minutes' walk from the gate, between Puerto del Rosario, the airport and Caleta de Fuste, but they are no help after dinner. The drives are short.

What to do. Hire a car for the stay, or budget for taxis into Puerto del Rosario in the evening. A car also turns the hotel into a central base: Betancuria is 31 minutes away and the Corralejo dunes 32.

  4. This is a small, simple hotel with one restaurant and a short dinner menu

El Mirador has 50 rooms, one restaurant, a lobby bar and a terrace bar, and nothing more: no spa, no gym, no kids club and no entertainment. Breakfast is a buffet. Half board is sold on every room, and its dinner menu is short, with a small set choice of starters, mains and desserts, which suits a night or two better than a week. The building also houses a hospitality and tourism training centre. Readers who expect a four-star resort in the Canarian sense, with pools, buffets and a programme, will find a historic building on a beach and very little else.

What to do. Book room only or bed and breakfast for a longer stay and eat in Puerto del Rosario, six minutes away, on most nights. Take half board for a short stop.

Who should skip it

Anyone who wants a pool, a spa, entertainment or a choice of restaurants on site. Light sleepers who are troubled by aircraft. And anyone who plans to stay without a car and eat out every night, because every table beyond the hotel's own is a drive away.

Who should book it anyway

Travellers with an early or late flight, road-trippers and readers on a budget. This is the former Parador Nacional de Turismo of Fuerteventura, opened in 1968 and reopened in 2017, a long, low neo-Canarian building with a tower above a golden-sand beach that you reach down a path in a minute. Every room is about 35 m², most look over the ocean, and a double costs about €110 a night with barely any change through the year. The airport is five minutes away, Puerto del Rosario six and the rest of the island within an easy drive. Book the Sea View Double Room, hire a car, and use it as a base.
