The catch at Secrets Bahía Real Resort & Spa
Five things sit between the photographs and the stay. Most of them the hotel sets out itself, and none is a reason to stay away from a resort built around a sea view of Lobos and Lanzarote, but each one decides which board, which room and which evenings suit you.
On our shortlists
Corralejo is 37 minutes away on foot, so evenings in town start with a taxi.
The resort stands on its own at the southern end of Corralejo, on the road out towards the dunes. The harbour, where the Lobos boats leave, and the old streets around Calle La Iglesia, where most of the town's restaurants and bars are, are 37 minutes on foot along Avenida Corralejo Grandes Playas, or 9 minutes by car. The nearest cluster of cafés and bars, around Calle Hibisco, is 17 minutes' walk. Inside the gates there are seven restaurants, four bars and live music every night, which is how the resort is meant to be used, but a dinner out is a taxi each way.
What to do. Hire a car if you want to see the island: the open dune beaches at Playa del Moro are 10 minutes away, El Cotillo 24 and the airport 38. For one night out in town, book the table first and take a taxi to the harbour.
The spa is one of the reasons to come, and every service in it costs extra.
The spa covers more than 2,500 m², with hydrotherapy pools, a sauna, a steam bath, sensory showers, an outdoor Jacuzzi and an oriental hammam for the rasul ritual, and its treatments use Natura Bissé. Every service is charged on top of the room, on every board, the Unlimited-Luxury all-inclusive included. Prices are not published. Services can be paid in cash, by card or to the room, and a booking cancelled or changed less than 12 hours ahead is charged at 50%.
What to do. Ask the spa on your first day what the hydrotherapy circuit costs and book treatments early. Bring a swimsuit for the circuit and arrive 20 minutes before an appointment.
The four à la carte dinners come with the all-inclusive, need booking and ask men for long trousers.
Chozo for Canarian cooking, Himitsu for teppanyaki and sushi, Ólio at the top of the hotel and Nebbiolo for pasta and pizza serve dinner only, from 18:30 to 21:30 in winter and 19:00 to 22:00 in summer, and each needs booking ahead. All four keep a formal dress code: long trousers, a collared shirt and dress shoes for men. Half-board rates cover breakfast and dinner at the Market Café buffet, with drinks extra, so the four rooms are an all-inclusive pleasure. The Bay Lounge, the Canarian lunch restaurant over the sea, is charged even on the all-inclusive, and how many restaurants open each night depends on occupancy.
What to do. Choose the all-inclusive if the restaurants are part of the plan, book your à la carte nights on the first morning, and pack one smart outfit and closed shoes.
The entry Junior Suite comes with no stated view.
There are no standard doubles: every room starts as a 36 m² Junior Suite with a furnished balcony and a king-size bed or two singles. What changes is the outlook. The plain Junior Suite is sold without a view, the Junior Suite Pool View faces the pools, and the Junior Suite Frontal Ocean View looks straight out to sea, towards Isla de Lobos and Lanzarote. Most rooms have ocean views, but only the ocean-view categories promise one. For a two-night stay from Tuesday 8 June 2027 the Pool View was €270 a night for two with half board. After booking, the hotel opens a platform where you choose the exact room yourself.
What to do. Book the Junior Suite Pool View for a balcony over the pools, then use the room-selection platform as soon as it opens, before the best balconies go.
The beach below the gardens is a small cove with rock at the water's edge.
Playa de las Agujas, three minutes from the rooms, has fine golden sand at the back but volcanic rock and lava shelves where you walk into the sea, most of all at low tide, and no permanent beach services. Like every beach in Spain it is public, not the hotel's own. The long white beaches of the Grandes Playas, with sunbed hire, begin with Playa del Pozo, 18 minutes south on foot, and the open dune beaches at Playa del Moro are 10 minutes by car. The two large pools in the gardens are where most of the swimming happens.
What to do. Pack water shoes for Las Agujas, and walk south to Playa del Pozo for a sandy day on the Grandes Playas.
Who should skip it
Families with children under 16, since the resort is for guests 16 and over. Anyone who wants to walk into Corralejo for dinner, anyone who expects the spa in the room rate or the à la carte dinners on half board, and anyone who wants a long sandy beach at the foot of the garden.
Who should book it anyway
Couples who want a week of sea views, pools and long dinners without children. The Frontal Ocean View balconies look straight across the strait to Lobos and Lanzarote, the dunes of the natural park begin just across the road, the spa of more than 2,500 m² has a proper hammam, and seven restaurants run from Chozo's Canarian cooking to Himitsu's teppanyaki. Take the all-inclusive, book the Junior Suite Pool View and choose your suite on the hotel's platform, keep a day for the 20-minute boat to Lobos, and the trade is well worth making.
