The catch at Elba Palace Golf Boutique Hotel

Five things stand between the photographs and the stay. None of them touches what the hotel does well, which is a calm, adults-only stay with Fuerteventura's first 18-hole course outside the door, but each one decides which room to book, how to spend the beach days and the evenings, and which weeks are worth the money.

On our shortlists

  1. There is no beach on foot, and the shuttle runs to a timetable.

The hotel stands inside the Fuerteventura Golf Club estate, inland from Caleta de Fuste. The nearest sand, Playa de la Guirra, is 35 minutes away on foot and the Atlántico shopping centre 28, along estate roads. The free shuttle covers the gap, but on a timetable: the runs that leave the hotel for the beach stop at the Atlántico centre go at 10.50am and 11.50am, while the 12.50pm run and the afternoon runs, at 3.25pm, 5.25pm and 6.25pm, head for the group's other hotels in Caleta de Fuste instead. The last run listed back from the beach stop leaves at 12.35pm. The service is subject to schedules and availability.

What to do. Plan beach days around the morning runs and ask at reception which run brings you back. For anything more, hire a car: the hotel has its own car park, and Caleta de Fuste is 9 minutes away.

  2. The golf is the point, and it is paid for on top.

Green fees are not in the room rate. From 15 October 2026 to 14 April 2027, 18 holes cost a guest of the Elba hotels €93, against €103 for visitors, and 9 holes €73. A buggy for 18 holes is €44 and a set of hire clubs €30. Players without a Spanish federation licence pay €1 a day for a temporary one. A week of daily rounds with a buggy adds up quickly for two, and other rates apply from 15 April.

What to do. Book tee times at the hotel reception, which is the clubhouse. A twilight round from 2pm costs €69, and the practice areas by the clubhouse, a range for 50 players, an 800 m² putting green and a chipping green, sit right beside the hotel.

  3. The entry rooms look at the gardens or the houses, not the course.

The Deluxe double room, the cheapest on the ladder, faces the gardens or the residential area of the golf estate, and the hotel lists no balcony for it. The Standard Suite, at 57 m², faces the same way. The course is only guaranteed from the golf-view categories: the Deluxe double room with view of golf course, the Prestige Double Room, the Suite with views of golf course and the Penthouse. The doubles themselves are the same 34 m², with a king-size bed or twins and a bath and a shower, whichever way they face.

What to do. Pay for the view. On Tuesday 8 June 2027 the Deluxe double room with view of golf course cost €225 a night for two with breakfast, €22 more than the entry Deluxe, and it comes with a large furnished balcony.

  4. Evenings are quiet, dressed up and end early.

Dinner at St. Andrews runs from 6pm to 9.30pm. From 6.30pm beachwear is not allowed in the bars and restaurants, men need long trousers in the restaurants at dinner, and T-shirts must have sleeves. After dinner there is the Piano Bar, with live music until midnight, and the wine cellar, with more than 300 wines and tastings of local cheese. Beyond that the estate is residential and quiet: the bars and restaurants of Caleta de Fuste are 9 minutes away by car and nearly an hour on foot.

What to do. Pack one smart outfit for each evening you plan to eat in, and take a taxi into Caleta de Fuste on the nights you want a choice of tables.

  5. Winter costs the most, and the air conditioning is off then.

The hotel's high season runs from November to March. For a Deluxe double room with breakfast, a night in November 2026 or in January, February or March 2027 cost €312 for two, against €255 in April, €182 in May and €203 in June. Over Christmas the hotel shows no public rate for a short stay. Air conditioning runs only from 1 April to 31 October; outside those dates the rooms have a ceiling fan. The minibar is charged, except in the Prestige rooms, and half board adds dinner for about €32 a night for two.

What to do. For the lowest prices, come in May, June or October. For winter golf, book early and budget for the high-season rate.

Who should skip it

Families with children under 16, since the hotel is for adults only. Also anyone who wants to walk from the room to the sand, to a choice of restaurants or to a bar after midnight, or who does not want to dress for dinner: this is a quiet hotel inside a golf estate, and the beach and the town are a shuttle, taxi or car ride away.

Who should book it anyway

Golfing couples, and anyone who wants a calm, grown-up week of winter sun. The hotel is the clubhouse of Fuerteventura's first 18-hole course, a par 72 among lakes and palms designed by Juan Catarineu, and the first tee, the range and the putting green are steps from reception. The airport is 16 minutes away, the colonial building with its wooden balconies and Canarian courtyard is small and quiet, and the golf-view rooms put a furnished balcony over the course. Book the golf-view Deluxe, hire a car for the beach days, and the catches above stop mattering.

Our verdict

A calm, grown-up golf hotel with the first tee at the door and the airport 16 minutes away, better for rounds than for beach days. Check availability for the golf-view Deluxe.
