The take on The Cosmopolitan of Las Vegas

The Cosmopolitan opened on 15 December 2010 on a small plot between Bellagio and CityCenter, so it was built upwards: two glass towers of 50 and 52 storeys, with the restaurants, bars and pools stacked above the casino rather than spread around it. At $3.9 billion it was one of the most expensive resorts ever built on the Strip. Much of it was first sold as condo-hotel apartments, the developer defaulted, and Deutsche Bank finished it in a modern style with no theme. Blackstone bought it in 2014, and MGM Resorts has run it since May 2022.

There are 3,033 rooms, 1,412 of them suites; the large bathrooms are a leftover of the condo plan. The entry City Room is 460 sq ft (43 m²) with no terrace. Terrace Studios are 620 sq ft (58 m²), with a full-size bubbler tub and sliding doors onto a private 110 sq ft (10 m²) terrace. Terrace One Bedroom Suites put the bed behind telescoping doors and add a Japanese soaking tub, and the Wraparound Terrace Suites run to 1,200 sq ft (111 m²) with a 410 sq ft (38 m²) terrace. Most rooms were last redone in 2017 and 2018.

The reason to book is the terrace, and the side it faces. Private balconies are rare on the Strip, and the Fountain View categories turn one to face the Bellagio lake next door, where the fountains play every 30 minutes from 3pm on weekdays and from noon at weekends, then every 15 minutes from 8pm to midnight. The Boulevard Tower on the Strip corner looks straight up the lake; from the Chelsea Tower the fountains sit off to the right. From mid-September to December a temporary Formula 1 stand runs along the lake's Strip edge. A plain Terrace Studio may face ARIA instead, so the words Fountain View in the room name are what you are paying for. Downstairs, The Chandelier is a three-storey bar hung with two million crystal beads, open around the clock on its lowest level, and é by José Andrés, nine seats at a counter, holds a MICHELIN star.

The trade is upkeep and extras. A $55 nightly resort fee plus tax is added, self-parking costs $20 a day, smoking is allowed on the terraces, and recent guests keep raising worn fittings and uneven housekeeping in rooms that MGM plans to remodel after ARIA's. On Tuesday 18 May 2027 the City Room cost $215 a night before tax and the fee, and the Terrace Studio King Fountain View $258. You must be 21 to check in. Book it for couples and friends who want the fountains outside and the bars below, and pay for the view.

The Cosmopolitan of Las Vegas: the room to book, Terrace Studio King Fountain View

The City Room is 460 sq ft (43 m²) with no terrace. The Terrace Studio King Fountain View is 620 sq ft (58 m²) with a bubbler tub and a private 110 sq ft (10 m²) terrace facing the Bellagio lake and its fountains, for $258 a night against $215 on Tuesday 18 May 2027. That night the Terrace One Bedroom Suite Fountain View, with the same terrace, a separate bedroom and a Japanese soaking tub, was only $12 more again.

Ask for
Ask for the Boulevard Tower and a high floor. Its north side looks straight up the Bellagio lake with no tall building in between, while in the Chelsea Tower the fountains sit off to the right and the 11-storey Jockey Club timeshare stands just in front of the lowest floors. The hotel takes tower and floor requests but does not guarantee them.
Avoid
A plain Terrace Studio or Terrace One Bedroom Suite if the fountains are the point, since without Fountain View in the name the terrace can face ARIA instead. The Bungalow suites overlook Marquee Dayclub, and the hotel warns their guests may hear its music.

Where The Cosmopolitan of Las Vegas is, and getting there

The Cosmopolitan stands on the west side of the Strip, between Bellagio to the north and CityCenter to the south, on the north side of Harmon Avenue. From the Strip entrance, the pavement along the Bellagio lake, where crowds gather for the fountain shows, is five minutes' walk, and the half-scale Eiffel Tower of Paris Las Vegas across the Boulevard is five. Each autumn a temporary Formula 1 hospitality stand is built along the lake's Strip edge for the Las Vegas Grand Prix in late November: the lakeside pavement closes from mid-September while it goes up, and the stand is cleared in December. The Bellagio Conservatory is seven minutes, Caesars Palace 13, T-Mobile Arena 18, the High Roller 19 and Sphere 31, and a covered bridge on the second floor runs through to Bellagio and Vdara.

The Las Vegas Monorail's Horseshoe / Paris Station is 13 minutes away across the Boulevard. Harry Reid International is 10 to 15 minutes by car outside rush hour. Hotel guests pay $20 a day to self-park and $40 a day for valet. The Strip runs loud until late, and music from the pools and Marquee Dayclub carries up the towers by day.
