The take on Bellagio

Bellagio opened on 15 October 1998 on the site of the Dunes, Steve Wynn's bet that Las Vegas could win the travellers who usually chose Paris, London or Venice. He took the theme from the village of Bellagio on Lake Como, set a 36-storey tower behind an 8.5-acre lake, and at $1.6 billion it was the most expensive resort yet built. MGM bought Wynn's company in 2000, added the 33-storey Spa Tower in December 2004 to reach 3,933 rooms, and runs it on a lease from Blackstone, its majority owner since 2019. Ocean's Eleven set its heist here in 2001.

The Gettys Group remodelled the 2,568 rooms of the main Bellagio Tower in 2021, and a $110 million programme redid the Spa Tower's 819 rooms and 104 suites in 2023. Nearly every standard room is 510 sq ft (47 m²). The entry Premier King and Premier Two Queen have a walk-in shower and double basins but no bath and no promised view; the Fountain View King and Two Queen are the same size and face the lake. Suites start at the 853 sq ft (79 m²) Salone Suite and climb to the Lakeview suites facing the fountains.

The reason to book is the lake. The Fountains of Bellagio send water as high as 460 feet from more than a thousand fountains, set to music and light, every half hour from 3pm on weekdays and from noon at weekends, then every 15 minutes from 8pm to midnight, unless high wind stops them. Fountain View rooms face every show across the water, with the tallest jets climbing past the window and more of the lake in view on higher floors. Indoors, the 14,000 sq ft Conservatory beside the front desk is replanted five times a year, for Lunar New Year and each season, and above the lobby hang the more than 2,000 hand-blown glass flowers of Dale Chihuly's Fiori di Como. All of it is free and open to anyone walking in from the Strip, though the Conservatory goes dark for about a week between displays.

With 3,933 rooms and a free garden beside reception, the lobby fills with sightseers, check-in queues can run long at busy times, and T-Mobile Arena is a 24-minute walk from the main entrance. A $55 nightly resort fee plus tax is added, self-parking costs $20 a day, and smoking is allowed in parts of the casino you cross to reach the pool. On Tuesday 18 May 2027 the Premier King cost $395 a night before tax and the fee, the Fountain View King $417. Book Bellagio for a first Las Vegas trip, a birthday or an anniversary, and pay the $22 for the lake.

Fountain View King at Bellagio: a king bed with a bench at its foot, a teal loveseat, a small round table and a curved wooden cabinet

Bellagio: the room to book, Fountain View King

The Premier King is 510 sq ft (47 m²), remodelled in 2021, and sells no particular view. The Fountain View King is the same size and finish, with a king bed, a walk-in shower and double basins, but it faces the lake and the Fountains of Bellagio, and on Tuesday 18 May 2027 it cost $417 a night against $395 for the entry room.

Ask for
Ask for a high floor: the hotel sells the view by room type, not by floor, and from the lower floors the restaurant roofs on the near shore hide the closest stretch of the lake. For two beds, book the Fountain View Two Queen, which has the same outlook.
Avoid
The Strip View Spa King if the fountains are the point: it looks along the Strip with only a partial view of the lake. If you want a bath, note that the Fountain View King has a shower only; the Spa Premier King in the Spa Tower has a soaking tub but no promised view.

PRIME Steakhouse

Chef Jean-Georges VongerichtenJean-Georges Vongerichten's steakhouse, with a garden patio on the lakeDinner only

Jean-Georges Vongerichten's steakhouse has been at Bellagio since the resort opened, down an escalator from the casino, in a chocolate-brown and Tiffany-blue room that opens on to a garden patio for up to 80 at the edge of the lake, facing the fountains. The menu is prime steak, seafood and lamb with a choice of sauces, with signatures such as tableside smoked bacon and a 36oz porterhouse, and the wine list leans on big California reds. It serves dinner only, 5pm to 10pm every night; book ahead and ask for the patio at show time.

Michael Mina has cooked here since the resort opened, first as Aqua and under his own name since 2004, and the restaurant is in the MICHELIN Guide's 2026 Southwest selection. Seafood is the point: a raw bar, classics such as phyllo-crusted sole and Maine lobster pot pie, and a seasonal ten-course tasting menu ($295 a head before tax and service in summer 2026), in a pale wood room with an open kitchen. It opens Tuesday to Saturday, 5pm to 9.30pm, a short walk from the lobby past the Conservatory, and in the autumn display it also serves dinner at The Garden Table inside the Conservatory itself.

Where Bellagio is, and getting there

Bellagio fills the south-west corner of Las Vegas Boulevard and Flamingo Road, in the middle of the Strip, set back behind its lake. Paris Las Vegas and its half-scale Eiffel Tower face it across the Boulevard, seven minutes' walk from the main entrance, and the Strip pavement along the lake, where crowds gather for the fountain shows, is five to seven minutes on foot, though that stretch closes from mid-September to early November each year while the Formula 1 grandstand goes up. The High Roller at the LINQ is 20 minutes on foot, T-Mobile Arena 24 and Sphere 33, so evenings further afield usually start in a car.

The Las Vegas Monorail's Horseshoe / Paris Station is 15 minutes away across the Boulevard, and the free ARIA Express tram runs from Bellagio's own station to Crystals and Park MGM, 8am to midnight. Harry Reid International is 10 to 15 minutes by car outside rush hour. Rideshares drop off at the porte cochère and pick up at the South Tour Lobby. Hotel guests pay $20 a day to self-park and $40 for valet.
