The catch at Disney's Grand Floridian Resort & Spa

The Grand Floridian is sold on Magic Kingdom across the lagoon, and most of what is worth knowing before you book follows from that. Five things stand between the brochure and the stay: what a night costs and when it climbs, what the entry room looks at, how you reach every park but one, the building work at the entrance and where the fireworks are really watched. None of them is hidden, and none outweighs one monorail stop to Magic Kingdom if that park is the point of the trip.

On our shortlists

  1. The entry room is about $855 a night before tax, and the holiday weeks add a third to a half.

Disney's own rate for the entry Resort View is $854 a night for two on any Tuesday in January 2027, and on 2 February, before Orange County's 12.5% tax, which takes it to $961. There is no resort fee and overnight self-parking is free; valet is $42 a night, sales tax included. The calendar does the rest. Presidents' Day week, 14 to 20 February 2027, runs $914 to $1,049 a night, and the first three weeks of March $869 to $1,049. The Easter fortnight, 21 March to 1 April, is $1,134 every night, about a third more than January, and Christmas to New Year is $1,218 in 2026 and $1,268 in 2027, 43 to 48% more. Fridays and Saturdays cost more in most weeks.

What to do. Stay Sunday to Thursday where you can. The cheapest weeknights run from July to early September, from $788, and Monday to Thursday nights in January are $839 to $854. For Easter or Christmas, budget $1,130 to $1,270 a night for the entry room before tax.

  2. The entry Resort View looks at the courtyard, the marina or the pools, and Magic Kingdom costs about $200 a night more.

Resort View, Water View and Theme Park View are the same room in the outer lodges around the gardens, pools and beach: two queens or a king plus a daybed, room for five and a child under three, and a patio or balcony. Rooms in the main building come with club level, from $1,410 a night. Only the view changes the price: on a Tuesday in January the lagoon costs $61 a night more and Magic Kingdom $203 more. That park view is at an angle and about a kilometre off, beyond the monorail beams and the trees of Adventureland, and Disney names Cinderella Castle itself only for two Theme Park View suites with club-level access, from $1,932 a night.

What to do. If the fireworks are why you are booking, pay for the Theme Park View and ask at check-in for a room with a clear line to the castle. If the lagoon is enough, the Water View is the smaller step.

  3. Magic Kingdom is the only park close by; the rest are a bus, a change of monorail or a drive.

The Resort Monorail reaches Magic Kingdom in one stop, but it runs one way round the lagoon, so the ride back from the park takes four stops; the water taxi calls at the hotel first on the way back, and the walking path to the gates takes about 19 minutes. Epcot is two monorails with a change, or a Disney bus. Hollywood Studios, Animal Kingdom and Disney Springs are by Disney bus, from a stop between the main building and the convention centre. By car with the roads clear, which in Orlando means off-peak, Epcot is 14 minutes away, Disney Springs 18 and Hollywood Studios 19, with Universal's car parks at 30 and Epic Universe at 33.

What to do. Take the monorail out and the boat back on Magic Kingdom days, and leave more time on the bus days. For a trip split between Disney and Universal, a car is the simpler answer, and overnight self-parking here is free.

  4. Building work at the covered entrance runs into early 2027.

Disney says renovation will continue in select areas, the covered entrance among them, through early 2027, and that guests may see or hear work during the day and may need to take other routes around the resort. Recent guests mention the construction around the entrance and lobby more than anything except the price. The lobby itself was refurbished in late 2025, with refreshed stained-glass skylights and a new bar, The Perch. The Grand Floridian Cafe closed for a refresh from mid-July to the end of October 2026, with its brunch moved to Cítricos, and this holiday season Disney has dropped the lobby's large gingerbread house in favour of miniature displays around the resort.

What to do. Allow a few extra minutes at arrival and departure, when the entrance matters most. Check Disney's notice for the resort before you travel: if the work has finished by your dates, this catch falls away.

  5. The fireworks are watched from the marina, not the beach, and the beach is for sitting, not swimming.

Magic Kingdom's fireworks go up over Cinderella Castle about a kilometre across the lagoon. The place to watch them at the resort is the marina by Gasparilla Island Grill, which has a clear line to the castle and plays the show's soundtrack; the white-sand beach is not the spot. The show can be cancelled in bad weather. Swimming is not allowed from Disney's resort beaches, so the sand is for loungers, and the place to swim is the Beach Pool beside it, with its 181-foot waterslide and a gently sloping entry. In the evening the fireworks and the boats' horns also carry across the water to the rooms.

What to do. Walk down to the marina a little before the show. For the fireworks from your own balcony, book the Theme Park View, the room sold on the view of the park.

Who should skip it

Anyone whose days are mostly at Universal, Hollywood Studios or Animal Kingdom, since those are a car or a bus away. Anyone on a tight budget: the entry room is about $855 a night before tax in a quiet week and more than $1,200 at Christmas. Anyone who wants Cinderella Castle from the room without paying for a castle-view suite, or who pictures swimming off the beach.

Who should book it anyway

Anyone whose trip is built around Magic Kingdom. The monorail is one stop to the gates in the morning, the water taxi brings tired children back for a midday break, and every guest gets half an hour of Early Theme Park Entry each day, with Extended Evening Hours on select nights, both through 2027. After dark the fireworks go up across the lagoon, the Electrical Water Pageant floats past the shore and Victoria & Albert's, with its MICHELIN star, serves its one seating of the night. Book the Theme Park View, travel Sunday to Thursday outside the holidays, and the Grand Floridian does exactly what it was built to do.

Our verdict

Book the Grand Floridian to ride the monorail one stop to Magic Kingdom and end the day with the fireworks over the lagoon. Pay for a Theme Park View room if the fireworks are the point, and plan on Disney buses for the other parks.
