Tenerife's two airports

Tenerife has two airports at opposite ends of the island, and they do different jobs. Tenerife South handles the international holiday flights, almost 14 million passengers in 2025; Tenerife North handles flights to the Spanish mainland and the other islands, 7.17 million. Which you use depends mostly on where you are flying from, and then on which of our hotels you are going to.

The short answer

Flying direct from the UK or northern Europe, you will land at Tenerife South, which is ideal: our six hotels on Costa Adeje and the Guía de Isora coast are 20 to 31 minutes away. Coming via Madrid, Barcelona or another Canary Island and staying in Puerto de la Cruz or Garachico, choose a flight into Tenerife North, 22 to 47 minutes from those hotels instead of an hour or more. Hacienda del Conde is about an hour from either.

Tenerife North is 22 minutes from Hotel Botánico, 27 from Gran Hotel Taoro and 47 from Hotel San Roque in Garachico, against an hour or more from the south. Hacienda del Conde, in Buenavista del Norte, is 60 minutes from Tenerife North and 61 from Tenerife South.

Who flies where

Aena lists 47 airlines at Tenerife South, among them Jet2.com, easyJet, Ryanair, TUI, British Airways, Aer Lingus, Norwegian and SAS, and in 2025 12.8 million of its 14 million passengers were on international flights. Tenerife North has eight airlines, led by Binter, Iberia, Air Europa and Vueling, and 7.1 million of its 7.2 million passengers flew domestic: Madrid is its busiest route, with more than a million passengers, followed by Barcelona, Seville and Bilbao. So from the UK it is a direct flight to the south, or a connection through Spain to the north.

Getting through each one

Tenerife South is the bigger airport, and flights from the UK and other non-Schengen countries go through passport control on arrival and departure, where non-EU passports have been registered on the EU's Entry/Exit System since April 2026. Aena advises three hours before a non-Schengen flight. Tenerife North is small, and on a Spanish or inter-island flight there is no passport control at all; Aena suggests an hour and a half for those. Both sell Fast Lane at security for €11.10: around the clock in the south, 05:15 to 22:00 in the north.

Lounges

Each airport has one lounge, run by Aena and priced the same: €45.95 for adults and children from 11, €21.25 for ages 6 to 10, under-6s free, with Priority Pass accepted at both. Montaña Roja at Tenerife South opens at 07:00 and sits before outbound passport control. Nivaria at Tenerife North opens at 05:15, early enough for the first flight to Madrid.
