On Fuerteventura the view you book is the Atlantic, and the room name tells you how much of it you get. Both Jandía hotels on this list stand on the slope above Playa del Matorral, so the beach, the salt marsh of the Saladar de Jandía and the open sea sit below the balcony. At Sotavento the outlook is the long beach and, around each full and new moon, the shallow tidal lagoon behind the sandbar.
Read the category with care. "Lateral" or "side" means the sea at an angle; "sea view" or "ocean front" means facing it. A standard room may look over the pool, the gardens or the mountains instead. Often the step up buys the same room turned towards the sea: at Hotel Riu Palace Jandia and Iberostar Selection Fuerteventura Palace the size does not change. Then ask for a higher floor, which decides how much sea and how little pool you see.
Hotel Riu Palace Jandia is the one hotel of our ten where you cannot book a room without the sea. All 201 rooms are sold with a balcony or terrace and a sea view, full or at an angle, over Playa del Matorral at the Morro Jable end. The building steps down the slope above the beach, so the floor and wing decide how much sea you see: on lower floors at the top of the slope, the pool and its palms come first.
The step up to face the sea is small. For a five-night stay from 8 June 2027, on half board for two, the Double Room with sea view was €289 a night against €270 for the angled room, the same 42 m² with a king-size bed instead of two singles.
The room to book
Double Room with sea view
about 42 m²€289 a night
It faces the sea rather than seeing it at an angle, for the same 42 m², and adds a 200 cm king-size bed.
Iberostar Selection Fuerteventura Palace stands above Playa del Matorral, and from the western blocks the front sea views run over the Saladar de Jandía, the only Ramsar wetland in the Canaries, to the beach and the Atlantic. The ladder is clear about what each room sees. The entry Double looks inland to the mountains of Jandía, the Side Sea-View Double catches the ocean at an angle, the Sea-View Double faces it, and the Sea-View Priority Location Double faces it from the top floors.
Star Prestige rooms, for guests aged 15 and over, all face the sea head on, the Doubles and Junior Suites from the second and third floors. For 8 June 2027, on half board for two, the Side Sea-View Double cost €35 a night over the entry Double and the Sea-View Double €80.
The room to book
Star Prestige Sea-View Double
about 32 m²€515 a night
Front sea views from the second or third floor, with the private pool, sun terrace and lounge of Star Prestige, for guests aged 15 and over.
Paradisus by Meliá Fuerteventura stands on Playa de la Barca, at the northern end of Sotavento's nine kilometres of sand, and its gardens lead down to the beach. The Premium Room Ocean View, Ocean Front and Frontal Ocean Horizon rooms all turn to the sea, the last with a private balcony along the Sotavento coast, and the Suite Ocean Front, 66 m², puts a balcony facing the Atlantic on a family suite.
In The Reserve, for adults 16 and over, the Premium Room Ocean Front Horizon is sold on the view down to the lagoon, which fills behind the sandbar around each full and new moon. The entry Premium Room and the Suite have a standard view, over the resort.
The room to book
Premium Room Frontal Ocean Horizon
about 40 m²
A sea-facing room with a private balcony that looks along the coast of Sotavento, not just out to sea.
Secrets Bahía Real Resort & Spa, for adults 16 and over, has most of its rooms looking out to sea, and the Junior Suite Frontal Ocean View faces straight across the strait to Isla de Lobos and Lanzarote.
At ZEL Fuerteventura, for adults 16 and over, every category above the entry Zel Room faces the sea, so the Zel Ocean View is the 48 m² room turned to the Atlantic.
From about €210 a night
The best things to do in Fuerteventura, hand-picked
Hand-picked: only the best, one version of each, researched so you don’t have to.
Hotel Riu Palace Jandia sells every room with a balcony or terrace and a sea view, full or at an angle, though the floor and wing decide how much you see. Elsewhere it depends on the category. At Iberostar Selection Fuerteventura Palace the entry Double looks to the mountains, and at Paradisus by Meliá Fuerteventura the Premium Room and the Suite have a standard view. Book a category whose name says sea view, ocean view or ocean front.
Is a side sea view worth it, or should I pay for the full view?
A side or lateral view sees the sea at an angle; a sea-view room faces it. At Hotel Riu Palace Jandia, for a five-night stay from 8 June 2027 on half board for two, the full sea view was €19 a night more than the angled room and adds a king-size bed. At Iberostar Selection Fuerteventura Palace on the same date the Side Sea-View Double was €35 over the entry Double and the Sea-View Double €80. Where the gap is small, the full view is the better buy.
Can you see the Sotavento lagoon from your room?
Yes, from The Reserve Premium Room Ocean Front Horizon at Paradisus by Meliá Fuerteventura, sold on the view down to the Playa de la Barca lagoon and for adults 16 and over. The lagoon fills behind the sandbar only around each full and new moon, for a few hours around the daytime high tide, on about half the days of the year, so for the rest of the time the view is the open beach. René Egli publishes a lagoon timetable for each year.
Which hotel looks across to Lobos and Lanzarote?
Secrets Bahía Real Resort & Spa, at the southern edge of Corralejo, for adults 16 and over. Most of its rooms look out to sea, and the Junior Suite Frontal Ocean View, the same 36 m² as the entry Junior Suite, is turned square to the sea towards Isla de Lobos and Lanzarote across the strait. You choose the exact suite on the hotel's room-selection platform after booking, so use it as soon as it opens.
Which floor should I ask for?
Higher, as a rule. At Hotel Riu Palace Jandia, ask at booking for a higher floor facing the beach: lower rooms at the top of the slope can look over the pool and its palms first. At Iberostar Selection Fuerteventura Palace, the Star Prestige Doubles and Junior Suites are on the second and third floors, facing the sea head on, and the Sea-View Priority Location Double is on the top floors.
How did you choose these hotels?
Independently, through extensive research, trusted sources and first-hand visits. Hotels cannot pay to be included, and every one of the ten has to exist for a different reason.
