The sail starts and ends at Doca de Alcântara, the marina just east of the 25 de Abril Bridge, at Gate 2 (Porta 2), according to the listing's own text as resellers of the same product reproduce it. A crew member meets the group at the gate, and the boat takes up to 10 guests, so it feels more like an evening on a friend's yacht than a river cruise. It lasts 2 hours, with commentary in English.

The route, as the listing gives it, runs both ways from the dock. Upriver, east, is Praça do Comércio, the great riverside square of the Baixa; across the water are Almada and the Cristo Rei statue on its pedestal above the south bank. Downriver, west, the boat passes under or beside the bridge to Belém: the MAAT museum and the old red brick power station beside it, the Padrão dos Descobrimentos and the Torre de Belém. The point of the evening is the light: in Lisbon the sun sets downriver, towards the mouth of the Tagus, so on the way back the bridge and the Belém shore are in silhouette against it.

On board there is a welcome drink and salty snacks; reviewers mention wine and beer, and the crew pour as the sun goes down. Blankets are on board for the cooler evenings, and the boat has a toilet. Other food and drinks, tips and hotel transfers are not included.

The sail needs the weather. GetYourGuide's listing says that if it is cancelled for poor weather you are offered another date or a full refund, and like most tours on the site it can be cancelled free up to 24 hours before. It can be booked until 1 hour before the start, but the listing is marked as likely to sell out, so book a few days ahead in summer. Because the departure is timed for sunset, the start time moves through the year with it: sunset at the dock falls from 17:18 in December to 21:00 in late June and July, by our calculation. GetYourGuide's calendar shows the start time for each date.

Why this one

On 7 November 2026 this was the most reviewed small-group sunset sail leaving from Doca de Alcântara that we found on GetYourGuide: rated 4.9 from about 1,800 reviews, from 34 euros, with no more than 10 guests. Guest reviews quoted by resellers keep coming back to the crew: friendly, funny and full of Lisbon stories, and generous with the wine. It is the one we would book for a couple's evening in Lisbon.

The close rivals suit other plans. Lisbon: Daytime/Sunset/Night City Sailboat Tour with Drink, rated 4.9 from about 3,200 reviews, from 36.90 euros, leaves from Belém, which is handier if you have spent the day at the monastery (see our guided Belém and Jerónimos Monastery tour (from 49.56 euros)). Lisbon: Wine & Sunset Cruise on a Vintage Sailboat, 4.9 from about 1,300, from 30.25 euros, is a classic wooden boat with a glass of white or rosé and snacks. Lisbon: Sunset Sailing Cruise with Wine, 4.9 from about 810, from 55 euros, also sells a private option. And if you want music, Lisbon: Sunset Boat Party Cruise with DJ and Open Bar is a party boat, rated 4.5 from about 14,400, from 19 euros. After the sail, the obvious next step is a night of fado: the old town and our fado show with port, a 50-minute live show by the cathedral, are a taxi ride east. Our guide to Lisbon's hotels is at /lisbon/.

Good for

  • Couples who want a slow evening on the water rather than a dinner cruise
  • A first or last evening in Lisbon, to see the bridge, Belém and the Baixa from the river
  • Small groups of friends who like a glass of wine and a chat with the crew

Not for

  • Wheelchair users: the listing says it is not suitable
  • Anyone prone to seasickness on a small boat
  • Anyone who wants dinner on board, or a party with music

Sunset is calculated for Doca de Alcântara in Lisbon time, for the middle of the month. Temperature is the median at sunset, with the coldest day in ten after it. Clear sky is the share of days with little cloud at sunset; rain, the share of days with 1 mm or more. Modelled from Open-Meteo history for 2021 to 2025.

Summer for clear skies, any month for the bridge

In the data we looked at, the sky at sunset was clear on 71 to 83 per cent of days in June, July and August, against 35 to 43 per cent from October to March, when rain fell on about a third of days. A cloudy sunset still lights the bridge and the river, but the cold catches people out: at sunset the median was 13.1°C in January and 16.4°C in November, and it drops as the boat comes back after dark. In summer the sun sets after 20:30, so the sail runs into the evening and dinner comes after.

From our Lisbon hotels

Times are routed to Doca de Alcântara, where the sail starts and ends (Gate 2; the exact spot comes in your confirmation). Hotel pickup is not included. Every one of our Lisbon hotels is more than 30 minutes' walk away, so these are free-road taxi times, routed on OpenStreetMap. There is no metro station nearby: the Cascais line train from Cais do Sodré stops at Alcântara-Mar, a short walk from the docks, and tram 15E runs along the river.

What guests keep saying

Recurring themes in the tour’s reviews, in our words, never quoted.

Praised

  • A crew that is friendly, funny and full of stories about Lisbon
  • A small, relaxed group, with the drinks topped up as the sun goes down
  • The bridge, Belém and the city seen from the water in the evening light

Complaints

  • The gate at Doca de Alcântara can be hard to find, and some taxis drop guests at the wrong spot

The catch

  1. Bring a warm layer, whatever the month

The sail runs into the evening, and the air on the river cools quickly once the sun has gone. In the data we looked at, the median at sunset was 13.1°C in January and 14.3°C in December. Blankets are on board.

What to do. Take a jacket or a jumper even in summer, and a scarf from October to April.

  2. Ask the taxi for Doca de Alcântara, Gate 2

The marina has several numbered gates, and other sailboat tours meet at Gates 1 and 3. Some guests say their taxi left them at the wrong spot.

What to do. Give the driver Doca de Alcântara, Porta 2, arrive 10 to 15 minutes early, and follow the location the crew sends with your booking.

  3. Book ahead for summer evenings

With no more than 10 guests, the boat fills up, and the listing is marked as likely to sell out. It can be booked until 1 hour before the start, and cancelled free up to 24 hours before.

What to do. Book a few days ahead from May to September; free cancellation means there is little risk in booking early.

  4. Choose a clear evening if your dates allow

In the data we looked at, the sky at sunset was clear on 71 to 83 per cent of days from June to August, and on 35 to 43 per cent from October to March. If the weather cancels the sail, the listing offers another date or a full refund.

What to do. Book early in your stay, so a weather cancellation can move to another night.

  5. Plan the way back

The sail ends at the docks after dark, away from the city centre, and there is no metro in Alcântara.

What to do. Book dinner in Alcântara or along the river, or take the Cascais line train from Alcântara-Mar back to Cais do Sodré, or a taxi.
