The walk meets at the statue of Dom Pedro IV in the middle of Rossio, the square at the top of the Baixa, and works through the Baixa and the streets around it. It takes 3 hours, in a small group with a local guide in English. GetYourGuide's listing promises 15 tastings at 6 stops: traditional cafés, taverns and restaurants that locals use.
The operator, Inside Lisbon, sets out the afternoon in order. First the old cafés: Café Nicola on Rossio, which the operator says opened in 1787, and the story of Lisbon's coffee culture. Then a codfish cake with a glass of vinho verde, a gourmet shop of salt cod, sausages, hams and cheeses where port is poured with São Jorge cheese and marmalade, and a tasca for a bifana, the pork sandwich, with a cold draught beer. Along the way the guide gives tips on what to eat in each neighbourhood. The operator also lists a traditional rice dish, and the walk ends with chouriço, Portuguese bread and a glass of red wine.
One stop is the ginjinha bar. A Ginjinha Espinheira, on Largo de São Domingos beside Rossio, opened in 1840, according to Lisbon City Council's Lojas com História register of historic shops, and still serves the sour cherry liqueur over the same counter; drinkers spill out on to the square by day and by night. GetYourGuide's listing calls it the bar that first sold ginjinha commercially.
On 7 November 2026 the tour cost from 70 euros on GetYourGuide, with the guide and all the food and drink of the tastings included. Tips and hotel pickup are not included. The operator says vegan, coeliac, kosher and halal options are not available, and that the walk is not suitable for wheelchair users or people with reduced mobility.
Why this one
On 7 November 2026 this was by far the most reviewed food walk in Lisbon on GetYourGuide: rated 4.9 from about 5,200 reviews, from 70 euros, against a few hundred reviews for each of its closest rivals. It is the one we would book for a first full day in the city: it starts on Rossio, a short walk from seven of our ten hotels, takes in the ginjinha bar and the old cafés, and the tastings add up to an early dinner. Inside Lisbon also sells it on its own website, from 66 euros on 7 November 2026, with free cancellation up to 48 hours ahead; GetYourGuide's is 24 hours, which suits anyone whose plans may change late.
The rivals suit other people. Eat & Walk Through Lisbon: A Local Food & Wine Experience, rated 4.9 from about 740 reviews, from 76.50 euros, and Lisbon: Food & Wine Walking Tour Through Baixa, 4.9 from about 410, from 71.10 euros, both meet near Praça do Comércio and offer a private option. Lisbon Small-Group Food & Wine Tour with a Full Meal, 4.9 from about 250, from 71.10 euros, is for anyone who wants a proper sit-down course. Old Lisbon: No-Uphill Food Tour, rated 4.8 from 42 reviews, from 70.20 euros, is built for knees that would rather not climb. If you would rather make one thing well, see our pastel de nata baking class (from 55 euros), where you bake pastéis de nata; for an evening with music, our fado show with port is a 50-minute live show in the old town with a glass of port included. Our guide to Lisbon's hotels is at /lisbon/.

Winter walks end in the dark
In the data we looked at, about a third of days from October to December had 1 mm of rain or more, against 1 to 2 in a hundred in July and August. Sunset on Rossio falls at about 17:18 in December and 21:02 in June, so an afternoon walk in winter finishes after dark. Pack a light waterproof from October to April.

The catch
Come hungry
Six stops of food and six drinks add up to a meal, and the operator's recent reviewers say they were too full for the last stop.
What to do. Have a light lunch, skip snacks, and pace yourself at the early stops.
Check your diet before you book
The operator says vegan, coeliac, kosher and halal options are not available, and most stops serve pork, fish or cheese.
What to do. For vegetarian food or an allergy, contact Inside Lisbon before booking, and put it in the booking notes.
Six drinks in three hours
The tastings include vinho verde, draught beer, port, ginjinha and red wine.
What to do. Ask for water between stops, and plan a taxi or the Metro home rather than a late climb.
Wear shoes for the hills and the cobbles
Most of the walk is in the flat Baixa, but the operator promises tips for climbing Lisbon's hills and city views on the way, and it lists the tour as unsuitable for anyone with reduced mobility.
What to do. Wear flat shoes with good grip, and tell the guide early if a climb is hard for you.
Free cancellation runs to 24 hours here
On 7 November 2026 GetYourGuide sold the walk from 70 euros with free cancellation up to 24 hours ahead; Inside Lisbon's own site sold it from 66 euros with a 48 hour window.
What to do. If your plans might change late, the 24 hour window is worth the 4 euro difference.
