The tour starts at Xplore Tenerife's office on the ground floor of the Cristianmar building, on the seafront at Los Cristianos, where there are changing rooms and lockers. On 6 October 2026 the operator's own booking calendar showed nine departures a day for the rest of the month, from 09:30 to 14:30, and the whole outing takes about three hours. The kayaks are sit-on-top singles and doubles with backrests, in the operator's description, and the guide gives a briefing on handling them, on safety and on watching wildlife before you leave the shore at Playa de Los Cristianos.

The route follows the foot of Montaña de Guaza, a volcanic cone over 400 metres high protected as a natural monument, to the sea cave the itinerary calls the Cueva de los Enamorados. It then stops in a bay the listing does not name, for a swim and a snorkel over volcanic reef, and paddles back to the beach. The operator says dolphins often swim close to the kayaks and that turtles are often spotted at the snorkel stop. The kayak, paddle, life jacket, mask and snorkel, wetsuit, a dry bucket for your things, accident insurance and the guide are included, and so are photos and videos, which the operator emails the same day. Water, swimwear and towels are not.

This sea is part of the Franja marina Teno-Rasca, a Special Area of Conservation since 2011 along the island's west and south-west coast. The Spanish environment ministry lists loggerhead and green turtles as habitually present in it, and bottlenose dolphins as resident all year. The loggerhead is listed as vulnerable in Spain's catalogue of threatened species, and the green turtle is on the national list of specially protected wildlife. In these waters the state's conservation order prohibits feeding animals to attract them and any behaviour that could disturb or harm turtles or cetaceans. The national cetacean decree counts touching dolphins, or swimming within 60 metres of them, as disturbance, though a boat that dolphins approach may keep its course and speed.

You must be able to swim. The minimum age is 14, for insurance reasons, the operator says, and anyone under 18 needs a parent with them. There is a weight limit of 100 kg per person, for the kayak's stability, and the tour is not for pregnancy, back problems, motor disabilities or anyone prone to seasickness; the operator suggests a non-drowsy travel sickness tablet 30 minutes before. Xplore Tenerife is on the Canary Islands tourism register for both kayak and snorkel activities.

Why this one

Several companies run kayak and snorkel tours from the beach at Los Cristianos, and on GetYourGuide on 6 October 2026 this was by far the most reviewed of those we found: rated 4.7 from about 12,400 reviews, from 38 euros for three hours with photos, videos, a wetsuit and a locker included. Adventoure's Kayak Safari and Snorkel in a Marine Reserve, which meets on Calle Juan Reverón Sierra, was rated 4.5 from about 3,500 reviews, from 42 euros, with a private option. Shaka Surf's Kayak & Snorkeling Adventure with Photos Included, from the seafront, was rated 4.6 from about 2,400, from 45 euros, with showers. A shorter tour sold as Kayaking and Snorkeling with Marine Life, also from the seafront, was rated 4.8 from about 730, from 34 euros for two and a half hours, with water and fruit included. Book this one for a score built on far more reviews, nine departures a day and the lowest price of the three most-reviewed tours. Booked direct, the operator's own price is also 38 euros, paid in cash on the day; GetYourGuide suits anyone who would rather pay by card, with free cancellation up to 24 hours before.

The age and swimming rules decide it for many families. With children under 14, Travelin' Lady, from 29.90 euros, runs along the same coast from Los Cristianos harbour, with a stop at the sea cave known as the Cave of Love and a swim if the sea allows. Non-swimmers from 8 can walk the seabed in a Sea Trek helmet, from 85 euros. If being in the water with turtles is the point, our scuba and snorkel page, from 75 euros, pairs a first scuba dive with a snorkel in a turtle habitat.

Good for

  • Swimmers of 14 and over who would rather paddle than sit on a boat
  • An active half day close to the Costa Adeje hotels, 11 to 14 minutes' drive away
  • Anyone happy to count turtles and dolphins as a bonus

Not for

  • Children under 14, non-swimmers or anyone over 100 kg
  • Anyone who must swim beside a turtle to feel it was worth it
  • Anyone with back problems or prone to seasickness

When to go

What the sea off Los Cristianos is like month by month during the hours the kayaks are out: the waves between 09:00 and 17:00, how often the sea stays calm, the water for the snorkel, and the air temperature at 13:00.

Waves are the median of each day's highest wave between 09:00 and 17:00 at sea off Los Cristianos; calm sea, the share of days when they stay under 1.5 metres; water, the median sea temperature at midday. Air is the median temperature at 13:00, with the coldest day in ten after it.

The wind picks up in the afternoon

In the five years of weather data we looked at, gusts over 50 km/h at Los Cristianos came at 16:00 on about one day in seven in March and December and one in ten in September, but on no more than 3 days in 100 at 10:00 in any month. The sea is calmest from May to October, with the waves under 1.5 metres on nine days in ten or more from May to July and in September, and on only about half the days in March.

From our Tenerife hotels

Drive times are routed to Xplore Tenerife's office in the Cristianmar building on the Los Cristianos seafront, where the tour starts. There is no pickup: the operator says the office is a 7-minute walk from Los Cristianos bus station.

What guests keep saying

Recurring themes in the tour’s reviews, in our words, never quoted.

Praised

  • Friendly guides who explain the coast and keep watch over the group; GetYourGuide's guide score was 4.9 out of 5
  • Dolphins and turtles on many trips
  • The views of the volcanic coast from the water
  • Lockers, changing rooms and staff that make the start easy

Complaints

  • No turtle, or one seen only from a distance

The catch

  1. Turtles are possible, not promised

The operator's own pages say turtles are often spotted and dolphins often come close, and GetYourGuide's web address for the tour still mentions turtles and dolphins, though its title does not. Low-rated reviews describe trips with no turtle, or one seen at a distance and barely visible, and one guest found it nothing like the listing's first photo, with no swimming beside turtles. Feeding wildlife to attract it is prohibited in these waters.

What to do. Book it for the paddle and the coast, and count a turtle as a bonus. If a turtle in the water is the point, compare the scuba and snorkel trip on our list.

  2. Afternoons are windier

One guest found the sea choppy from 15:00 to 17:00 and advised booking a morning. In the five years of weather data we looked at, gusts over 50 km/h at Los Cristianos at 16:00 came on about one day in seven in March and December, and almost never at 10:00. The listing says you will not be able to go out if the operator judges it unsafe.

What to do. Book a departure between 09:30 and 11:00, early in your stay, so a windy day leaves time to rebook.

  3. It is a workout

GetYourGuide's listing says a basic level of fitness will do; the operator's own site asks for a good level. Low-rated reviews come from guests who underestimated the paddle, including a pair the guide turned back for safety, and from one who regretted pairing up with a first-time paddler.

What to do. If you rarely exercise, or one of you has never paddled, ask the operator before booking whether you can each have a single kayak, or choose a boat trip instead.

  4. The limits are firm

The minimum age is 14, anyone under 18 needs a parent with them, the weight limit is 100 kg per person and everyone must be able to swim. One low-rated review describes a family member being turned away on the day, and the rest of the family splitting up.

What to do. Check everyone in your group against the limits before you book, not at the desk.

  5. The photos come by email, and mostly from the kayaks

Photos and videos are free, and the operator says it emails them the same day. Some guests say theirs never arrived; the operator replies that they can land in spam and that it will resend them. Others found they were photographed on the kayaks but not in the water.

What to do. Give an email address you will check that evening, look in spam, and bring your own waterproof camera for shots underwater.

Questions people ask

Good questions about Kayak and snorkel tour from Los Cristianos

Can you kayak with turtles in Tenerife?

You can kayak where they live: the Spanish environment ministry lists loggerhead and green turtles as habitually present in the protected sea along this coast, which includes Los Cristianos. No operator can promise one, and low-rated reviews describe trips without a sighting.

Is the Los Cristianos kayak and snorkel tour worth it?

For swimmers of 14 and over who want three active hours on the water, yes: 38 euros with photos, wetsuit and locker included, rated 4.7 from about 12,400 reviews on GetYourGuide on 6 October 2026. Book it for the paddle; turtles and dolphins are a bonus.

What is the minimum age?

14, and anyone under 18 must come with a parent. The operator says the limit is set for insurance reasons.

Do I need to be fit, or to have kayaked before?

No kayaking experience is needed, but you must be able to swim, and the operator's own site asks for a good level of fitness. Expect about three hours on the water.

Is there a weight limit?

Yes, 100 kg per person, for the kayak's stability. Anyone over it cannot take part.

What time should I book?

A morning departure. Tours leave from 09:30 to 14:30, and in the weather data we looked at, gusts over 50 km/h at Los Cristianos were far more common at 16:00 than at 10:00.

Can I touch or feed the turtles?

No. The sea here is a Special Area of Conservation where feeding animals to attract them, and any behaviour that could disturb or harm turtles or dolphins, is prohibited.

How warm is the water?

About 20°C in February and March and 24°C in September, in the sea data we looked at; a wetsuit is included.
